Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 154: Someone’s gaze
Chapter 154: Someone’s gaze
VALENCIA’S POV
Once I was done telling the man my plans, though he was a bit unhappy about it, he said he understood my circumstances. All students go on vacations during the holiday season. Besides, the business would be low because of the lack of students either way, and it would be good he wouldn’t have to pay me.
I laughed at that comment before agreeing to his conditions of employment when I returned, assuming I would still need some work.
After that, I walked out. Tracy left long ago to arrange her room’s stuff and pack her belongings because she had a flight to catch to go to her mother’s house.
Her parents were divorced, and she was going to spend a month with them one by one.
"What are you doing here all alone, sweetheart? Need a lift?" Someone said behind me, and I rolled my eyes at him.
"No thanks," I said, continuing my walk.
"Oh, come on. I don’t think a pretty lady like you should walk alone. What if you find some dangerous people out there who get allured by your beauty? I am not a bad person here, but can we really trust everyone?" He said.
I looked at him with an annoyed expression, not stopping for him.
"I said I was okay. You can leave. My friend will be picking me up," I added, and the man scoffed before stopping the car and getting out of it.
He stepped in front of me, stopping my path.
"Seriously? Do you want to do this?" I asked, and the man grinned at me.
"Okay. Let’s get into your car then," I said.
As soon as I said that, he scowled.
"Come on. Why would you break your character so quickly? It’s not funny anymore," Henry said, and I shook my head.
"Where were you going anyway?" He asked, looking in the direction of the forest with a confused expression.
I was actually hoping to return to my lake house and see if things were alright there. Since there were no rogue activities for three weeks and the alphas’ meeting was here, which increased the security of the entire forest, I don’t think the rogues would really dare attack me.
"Me? Where do you think I was going?" I was hoping to spot a wolf or something," I said, and he widened his eyes.
"Really?" He asked.
The humans know these forests are full of wolves because of the howling and growling they get to hear from time to time. They just don’t know that these wolves can turn into humans, too, and have been staying with them for as long as they couldn’t remember.
"Not really. I was just craving some nature and was hoping to visit the lake," I said something he could believe, and the man finally nodded.
"I understand. But I don’t think you should take that kind of risk. It’s almost evening," Henry said, and I hummed.
I was about to turn to walk to his car when I suddenly felt someone’s gaze on my back, making me look in that direction.
However, as soon as I moved, I felt like something was vanishing like a swoosh in the forest.
I was sure there was something.
My first instinct was to go there and check what it was.
This wasn’t the first time it had happened. I have been feeling like someone has been watching me for more than a week, and it was starting to get on my nerves.
I really wanted to see if I could catch someone who could give me plausible replies.
However, with Henry being here, his life would be at stake, and I did not want that to happen
If it were my enemy or someone who didn’t like me, the chances of them wanting to harm Henry would increase, and an attack on a human would spread widely among the werewolf community.
With the Alphas Meet near, I don’t want anything to happen that would play with Maverick’s reputation. That’s the least I can do to support him from afar.
"Get into the car. We are leaving," I told Henry, who looked at me with furrowed brows.
"Did you not hear me? I can take you there if you want," Henry repeated his words that I didn’t, and I hummed at him.
"I heard you for the first time. But it’s not worth it. You are right. It’s almost evening. No matter how strong or what kind of martial arts we know, we still can’t stand against a pack of wolves. We all know they move in groups. Let’s not forget how many trespassers have died because of that," I said to him to make him believe in me and leave immediately.
What if the man who was watching me actually left to call his people? The chances were low but never zero.
Henry nodded his head after a long time before starting the car.
As he turned the car around, I looked at the side mirror.
Just like I had guessed, there was someone’s shadow.
One would think it was a tree’s Shadow, but the position was opposite from all the other shadows.
There was definitely someone, and now that I was sure I saw someone, I needed to report this to Dylan.
"So where are we going now?" Henry asked, bringing me out of my thoughts.
"Can you turn towards my apartment?" I asked, and Henry nodded before looking at me through the rearview mirror.
I looked out the window, deep in thought, as I tried to connect the dots of everything happening around me.
"So now that Professor Maverick has left, will you stay in touch with the alpha?" Henry suddenly asked, and I looked at him in surprise.
What did he say?
"What do you mean?" I asked. My pupils dilated, and my hand immediately reached for the dagger.
If he was going to be a problem for me, his head was going to fly away from this car for sure. I thought as I waited for his answer.
