Chapter 115: Only her

ALPHA MAVERICK’S POV

I waited for Carl to come out of the room.

It’s been exactly 30 seconds since I placed Valencia on her bed and Carl closed the room, and I have been growing anxious ever since.

What was he doing inside the room? Why didn’t he allow me to take her to the doctor? What was the deal with her? What did he mean he had an antidote for it? Was it serious? Was she suffering from some kind of discomfort that I didn’t have any idea about?

Multiple thoughts were going inside my head.

’I know you are worried about her, Mav. I am too. But it’s only 30 seconds. Can you call down a little?’ Reaper said, and I scowled at him.

He knows nothing.

Seeing how one minute that should’ve been enough to give any antidote had passed, I was about to knock on the door to ask if everything was alright when the door was opened from inside and I looked at Carl, waiting for answers.

"Huh, there is nothing to worry about. However, I hope you can keep this a secret from my brother. I don’t want him to worry about this or he will definitely call her back. He is barely hanging on a thin thread and fighting everyone who is allowing her to stay here," Carl said.

I narrowed my eyes at his sentence.

It was almost as if he was asking me for a favor and threatening me at the same time.

What did he mean Dylan would take her away if he found out about this?

But that wasn’t the important part here. I will handle it when that situation appears. What was important was knowing what happened to my woman so that I could be prepared for the next time.

"What happened to her?" I asked and he looked at her sleeping form from the creak before closing the door.

"Before answering that question, I would like to know what was the last thing she consumed before she fell unconscious. Since it happened when you were there, I am sure you know what it was," Carl asked and I coughed.

I looked at him awkwardly, scratching the back of my neck, unsure if Valencia would be ready to share that kind of personal details with them.

For all I know, who knows if she has told them anything about what’s going on between us in fear they will take her away.

"Why does it matter? I can assure you it’s nothing bad," I said and he sighed.

"Did you take some kind of tonic or potion before leaving for that rogue mission?" He asked me, his sudden change of topic making me confused but I nodded my head nonetheless.

Does he know already? But how would he knows?

Maybe it was somehow related to Valencia’s condition because she drank my blood? At this point, anything could be possible.

"Yes. To avoid any kind of drugging from any wolfsbane shot by the rogues, I had taken a strong countering drink before leaving for the mission. In fact, my entire team drank it," I answered.

Carl hummed before he walked to the table in the living hal,l and I followed him, unsure where this was going.

He was too calm for someone who was supposed to take care of Valencia and ensure she was safe, after seeing she had a negative poisoning effect

"How much?" He asked.

"Pardon?" I asked, trying to understand what he was asking me.

I saw his eyes flickering from calm to irritated for a second before he calmed down again.

"How much blood did she drink from you, Alpha Maverick?" Carl asked straightforwardly, and to say his question surprised me would be an understatement.

What did he mean by it? Do they already know that she has a craving for blood? Is this not her first time? If not, then could it be that she had drunk from one of the brothers earlier? Even the thought of her lips on their neck or hands enraged me and my wolf howled inside me.

My gaze turned sharp as I looked at the man in front of me and he sighed before coughing to ease out the tension.

"Don’t think negatively of her. She isn’t like that. And no she has definitely never drank blood before. It’s... It’s just something she talked to me about recently," Carl explained, and my wolf calmed down a little.

"What’s with the reaction? This is not a good practice, but don’t werewolves intake some amount of each other’s blood while mating or just expressing love? Why did she get poisoned for that? The tonic in my body shouldn’t have affected her like that," I asked, keeping my words as respectful as ever.

Carl shrugged before he leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes.

"Beats me why she has to go to you for this. If she wanted to get over her urge to bite someone, she could’ve clearly come to me, the person she knows who doesn’t intake any such substances that will react with her blood," Carl said, angering me more.

Was he trying to say that she was in this position all because she chose me instead of him?

"What-" I started, but before I could say anything, Carl spoke again, and things finally started to make sense.

"She drinks wolfbane to grow herself immune to such attacks. As a single girl who used to travel a lot a couple of months ago, she had developed this habit to protect herself from being drugged and getting used to it. After that incident where that alpha -" Carl stopped abruptly before clearing his throat.

The incident with Alpha? What incident? Why did Carl stop? I wanted to ask him, but I wanted to hear these things from the person in question herself. I want her to trust me enough to share her dark past with me.

Feeling angry at myself for being the reason my woman was like this, I sighed and was about to go to the balcony when Carl’s words stopped me.

"What do you want from her? You clearly can have any woman you want around you. Must it be her?" Carl asked, and I turned to look at the man.

I had around hundreds of ways to answer his shitty question in a way he would never think of questioning my intentions towards Valencia again, but I didn’t think it was necessary, not until there was a situation where I must prove myself, and thus, I just smiled at him.

"It mustn’t be her," I said, watching his expression turning calm before I smirked.

"Only her," I said before walking towards the balcony to get the report if my team found out anything about the private number that Rogue used to talk to.
