Chapter 99: Where The Fuck Was I?
The first thing I noticed as I slowly came to was the pain. My entire body screamed with every breath I took. Even something so simple as raising my chest up and down stretched muscles that didn’t want to be stretched.
The second thing I noticed was the wet earth under me with hard metal bars digging into my ribs and side.
The third thing I noticed was that I wasn’t alone.
"Shh," whispered the woman as she tightened her hold on my hand. "I can heal you, but you can’t make a sound, okay?"
Not bothering to open my eyes, I forced my body to relax. The woman wasn’t harming me, so there was no need to fight her hold.
In fact, more than not harming me, I could feel the warmth of something entering my body where she was touching me. If I concentrated, I could have sworn that I saw a bright green light putting me back together from the inside out.
"My name is Wang Tian Mu, and I am a doctor," introduced the woman. "You were brought to Camp Hell a few minutes ago and put in with the rest of the women. What is the last thing you remember?"
You know, for a woman who just told me to be quiet, she sure was expecting a lot from me.
"Torture," I spat out, the one word taking more from me than I wanted to. All I wanted to do was go back to sleep.
"I’m so sorry to hear that," murmured the woman. "This place isn’t going to be much better, but Rip and I will protect you as much as possible."
"Why?" I hissed as the green light poked at a particularly deep gash in my shoulder. It was close enough to my heart that I was beginning to believe that Antoine either didn’t want to kill me or he was just a lousy shot.
"Because this place is Hell," stated the doctor, her fingers gripping mine for a moment. "And if we want to survive, we need to stick together."
I hummed, not really willing to commit one way or another to her statement. I had never heard of any place in O City called Camp Hell.
Then again, I must have been hit in the head harder than I thought because my ears were catching a different language than what I was actually hearing.
Whatever was going on, it was way too complicated for my current situation.
"Sleep," I grunted, already giving into the darkness’s embrace.
My last thought before I lost consciousness was how Dante and Tank were doing at the moment. Hopefully, they won’t be too hurt by Ghost’s betrayal.
-----
The feeling of bars being kicked around me woke me up out of dead sleep. Bolting upright, I smacked my head on a set of bars and fell back down to the ground.
"What?" I demanded, rubbing my forehead. "What the fuck is going on now?"
It took me a minute to realize three things... and each one creeped me out more than the one before...
First, I was no longer in pain... yay! But how did that happen? How long was I asleep for? Did I dream of a woman healing me as I slept? And what’s with the fucking cage that I was in?
The second thing that creeped me out was that I was thinking in English. All the words around me seemed to enter my ears as a different language, only to be changed around in my head to English.
And if that one wasn’t creepy enough... I could swear that I was speaking English, but the words coming out of my mouth definitely were not.
Where the fuck was I, and how the fuck did I get here.
"Wake her up," snarled a male voice from on top of me. I knew it would be pointless to open my eyes, but maybe they might give me an advantage.
Forcing my eyes open, I was stunned when the light of the sun burned into my eyes, causing me to have to close them again.
"I’m up," I snarled back, opening my eyes much slower this time around. Bracing for the impact of the light, I tried to figure out who was lending me their vision. "What do you want?"
A metal rod that looked a lot like a cattle prod was slammed against the top of the cage I was in, sending an electrical jolt through my body. Hissing out loud, I didn’t miss the male laughing at my pain.
Lifting my head up, I waited for the blurriness to dissipate. Snapping into focus was one of the ugliest males I had ever seen in my life. And that was saying something.
He had chunks of flesh missing from his cheeks and arms, showing off the teeth and bones underneath. His skin, while a pale color, was ever so slightly discolored, like a corpse that had been dead for too long.
But no matter what he looked like, he didn’t look like any of the zombies I had seen before. But if he wasn’t a zombie, how could he survive all those wounds over his body and not be dead?
"Your number is 188. Know it, learn it, love it," sneered the... creature. "You are attractive enough to be sent to the VIP houses. If you want food, you need to work for it."
"Sir," spoke the same gentle voice from last night’s dream. Turning my head to see the woman in front of me, I had to blink a few times.
Her mouth was moving as she spoke to the zombie in front of us, but it was like a badly dubbed movie where the words I heard didn’t line up with the way her mouth moved.
Fuck my life. Where in the Sweet Hell was I now?
"Fine," growled the thing before hitting my cage one last time. "Then finish healing her now. I expect her to be in top form by tonight. Understood?"
The woman nodded her head, her beautiful back hair covering her like a curtain as she lay awkwardly in her cage. "Of course. Whatever the Alpha wants."
