Chapter 46: The Impact of Wishes
Chapter 46: The Impact of Wishes
As if Jennifer’s scream had broken through something, I could hear the rest of the women in the room responding to what had happened.
Feeling one of the demons touching me on my shoulder, I was surprised to hear Lust’s voice in my head. "Look through my eyes, Pet," he purred. "You are going to want to see this payment, I promise you."
Nodding my head, I picked up the glass of sweet tea and turned toward the kitchen sink where Jennifer was standing.
It looked like she was frantically trying to move her right arm with the way it was jerking, but for some reason, she couldn’t.
Elizabeth was beside her, trying to help, but no matter what they did, the arm refused to move.
The scent of blood drifted toward me, and I couldn’t help but cock my head to the side, wondering what had caused it as some of the younger women went to a corner to throw up.
"Silly little moppet thought she was cleaning the sink," sang Lust, his breath caressing my cheek. Normally, he was the one to set me off the most, but it was like we were experiencing our own private moment together.
"She didn’t know that that wasn’t a drain that she was sticking her hand into... it was a garbage disposal. Somehow, wires got crossed, and it was suddenly turned on."
Now that he had said something, I could hear the mechanical crunching of something under Jennifer’s screams. I had heard of an in-sink garbage disposal, but I had never seen one in real life.
Those things could be dangerous if you weren’t more careful.
After taking its pound of flesh, the disposal suddenly turned itself off, letting Jennifer finally pull out her masticated arm.
Where her hand once was was now nothing more than ground beef with blood pouring out onto the floor. Elizabeth, trying to help as best she could, slipped in the liquid as she raced over to the stove to grab a towel to stop the bleeding.
Catching herself before she could fall, Elizabeth grabbed onto the closest thing to her. Unfortunately for Jennifer, that was her arm, and the jarring grip was enough to send a new spurt of blood onto the floor.
’Should I worry?’ I asked, returning my attention to the sweet tea in front of me.
"Worry about what?" chuckled Lust as if that was the stupidest question ever.
’Should I worry that she is going to die?’ I clarified, taking another sip as if one of the women a few feet from me wasn’t in danger of bleeding to death.
I was actually impressed at how well the garbage disposal was able to chew through bone. I really didn’t know it had it in them.
"Awe, Pet. Do you feel bad for the poor human?" asked Lust, the joking gone from his tone as if he was actually worried that I might be.
’No, but she owes me for three wishes. If this is just her first payment, then what about the other two?’ It seemed wrong that she would only have to pay for one wish when she made three. Wouldn’t that be stealing?
"She won’t die," promised Lust. "Not until the contract is fulfilled on both ends."
Nodding my head, I ignored the chaos around me and continued to enjoy my drink.
----
It took the men of the house a surprisingly long time to realize that Jennifer wasn’t among the women sent to serve them dinner.
At some point in time, she had passed out, and the annoying screams stopped. Elizabeth, the angel that she was, got one of the other women to help her carry Jennifer to one of the rooms upstairs.
The men didn’t really seem to care that she had almost lost her life. Instead, they wanted to make sure that Elizabeth didn’t put her on one of the beds.
Meh, I guess some people had their priorities.
As soon as they were done digging into their meal, they went to the front room to enjoy some of the beers Elizabeth had found in the fridge. They weren’t cold, but no one seemed to care about it.
What had surprised me most was the fact that my ’wish’ for supplies didn’t seem to impact this place at all. Nothing was collected into my space, it was like the supplies just weren’t there to begin with.
"Of course not," informed Greed as I mused the situation over in my head. "This house and everything inside of it is connected to a wish. The food itself is another wish. Your powers can’t negate itself. It cannot collect supplies that you are responsible for producing in the first place."
’That doesn’t make sense,’ I complained, trying to wrap my head around his logic.
"Consider this place as something that doesn’t exist," sighed Gluttony as if he had to act as a translator for his brother. "The moment you step out of the house or the owner of the wish dies, everything will cease to be."
’Then why didn’t that work for the zombies One Nut wished into being? He died pretty quickly after they appeared,’ I reasoned.
"One wish impacts the world while the other wish only impacts the wisher. One Nut asked for normal zombies, so normal zombies were created. However, they weren’t just created inside the kitchen but everywhere where the mutated zombies were. So, it impacted a wider area and more people, creating a new... path... beyond the thing One Nut asked for," continued Gluttony.
"Jennifer, Fleur, and Elizabeth’s wish were just for themselves. They didn’t want to feed the population or provide shelter for everyone; they were just thinking of themselves. So, the wish only impacts them," expanded Greed as if he was pissed that Gluttony was taking over everything.
Huh, I guess that made sense. ’So, if someone asked for world peace?’ I wondered. Wasn’t that what people were supposed to ask for? It seemed to be the number one answer on the beauty pageants Père would watch.
"Then, if they could pay the price, there would be world peace," informed Pride with a smirk. "But when presented with the options, no one ever picks that one. Humans aren’t that kind to each other."
I was taken out of my thoughts as I heard someone frantically coughing beside me.
Fleur, the woman who asked for food, was currently choking on her dinner.
Yup, there was always a price to pay. Luckily, hers didn’t seem to be too steep.
