Chapter 373: All They Wanted
Humming a tune under his breath, Désiré watched his brothers disappear into the jungle. The house had disappeared behind him, cutting off that exit, but it was fine. He might want to be beside Hattie every moment of the day, but he understood the assignment.
The only problem was that he didn’t want to become stronger.
He had already offered up his soul, and Hattie had accepted it. He had merged with the slimy Sin, and now he was one body, one soul.
But to become stronger, it meant that he had to accept the demon side of himself. He had to accept Lust and everything that that entailed.
Désiré walked into the jungle, following a path all his own, with his hands in his pockets. However, no matter how relaxed he looked, he was fighting with every step. Each time he put a foot forward, he was in control; every breath was deliberate. Every single muscle in his body was controlled by the man.
Letting out a long sigh, he watched as the vines and plants moved away from him as if he were contaminated. And, technically, he was.
Hattie had already bound her soul to him, and a part of her was buried so deep in his heart that there was no way to separate them. Not that he wanted to. But she had accepted his demon without hesitation like it was a natural part of her.
She hadn’t asked him to be different; she hadn’t told him to clean himself up or wash the filth off his skin. She simply loved him... all of him.
Even the parts that he hated.
The demon inside of him was quiet now, no voices in his head, nothing. It was like the second he acknowledged the fact that he was the living embodiment of Lust; Lust didn’t need him anymore.
Hell, Désiré almost missed the running commentary. At least then, he knew that they were separate. But what bothered him was why had Lust picked him in the first place? Was it because he was already dirty? Already disgusting? Or did the demon see the potential in him?
Sure, he loved women, but there was nothing wrong with that. It wasn’t like he had a lineup of baby mama’s following behind him. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t completely innocent, either.
"I’m still here, you know," murmured Lust, his voice soft. "I never left you."
"Naw," replied Désiré. "Cause dat would make things too easy."
"There is nothing wrong with either one of us," continued Lust. However, just like every other time he had tried to speak to the human part of him, the human simply shut down. "You don’t understand."
"I donna need ta understand," shot back Désiré pulling a leave off of one of the trees around him. "I musta done somethin’ wrong in one of my lives if you’re my penance."
Lust sighed, not bothering to waste his energy on the human. He just didn’t understand why Désiré was so stubborn that he couldn’t see the truth. Hattie could. She welcomed the two of them with open arms. She knew and understood their true nature, and it had nothing to do with the human concept of lust.
Désiré stopped at the edge of a clearing, knowing that whatever had sent him on this path was waiting for him here. It was perfect, actually. He was getting sick and tired of the thing’s eyes on him.
Ever since they had entered the jungle with the humans, Désiré had wanted to scrub his body clean. The eyes made him feel dirty like they could see right through him and into his very soul.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are," sang Désiré, an easy-going smile on his face.
As if answering his call, a man stepped out of the trees on the other side of the clearing.
He was everything Désiré hated about himself. Shirtless, with oiled skin, and lips curled in a knowing smile, everything about the man, from the way he looked to the way he moved, oozed sex.
There was no shame in him, no restraint. He was what he was, and he was proud of it.
"I was wondering when you would come for me," purred the man, his voice so seductive the plants themselves bent toward him. "Hopefully, I am everything you want."
Désiré didn’t bother to respond. The man was speaking to the demon inside of him; not once did he even bother to look at the human. Handing the reigns over to Lust, Désiré stayed a silent observer.
"Nothing about you is what I want," sneered Lust, surprising Désiré. He was sure that the demon would be regretting his decision to merge with him, now that he saw what he could have had.
"Lies," said the man, his eyes narrowing as he took in the golden eyes of the demon in front of him. "I am everything that is you. I have perfected myself, just like my brothers, to be everything that you want and need."
The man ran his hands down his oiled abs as if to highlight his physique. "I am ready to serve the Fifth Deadly Sin of Lust."
"And that is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the shit you got wrong," shrugged Lust. However, Désiré was shocked. He honestly hadn’t been expecting anything like that to come from Lust. After all, even he, a straight man, couldn’t help but stare at the other’s body.
"I don’t understand," murmured the man, a sad look on his face. Even now, it was like he was trying to manipulate the demon, to make him feel sorry for him, to make the demon choose him.
"Of course you don’t," sneered Lust. "I’m going to assume that at one point in time, you were human, and that way of thinking never left."
"I was human," agreed the man, his pecs flexing as he stepped forward. Now standing under one of the moonbeams, he glowed even more like some sort of god. "And now I am so much more."
"You are nothing but an idiot," scoffed Lust. Pointing his finger, Lust circled it, indicating the man’s entire body. "This isn’t lust. And that alone proves that you aren’t worthy of me."
"And the thing you are inside of now, he’s worthy of you?" It was the first time that the man’s voice was anything but soft and seductive. In fact, it was downright biting.
Désiré twitched in the body, taking offense at the idiot’s statement. "Does de village know their idiot left?" he smiled, coming out for a second, much to Lust’s amusement. "If I weren’t worthy, would I be chosen?"
"First rule of being a Sin," sighed Lust, letting Désiré pull back a bit. "We aren’t served. We serve."
The man blinked in confusion. "No," he responded almost automatically. "You seven are the strongest thing in any universe. You don’t take a knee, and you definitely don’t serve. You are Gods in your own right. Who would demand your servitude."
"Rule number two of being a Sin," continued Lust, ignoring the comment. With so many delusional people in the world, it was no wonder the house was demanding that they burn it to the ground.
Really, some people were too stupid to live.
"We serve our master with everything we have and everything we are. If your chosen meat sack doesn’t understand your designation to his very core, then choose another meat sack."
Désiré was stunned. That wasn’t what he was expecting.
"Rule number three," grunted Lust. "If you are bound and determined to keep that meat sack, it is your job to train him properly. Rule One is the most important thing; as long as the meat sack is willing to do that, then you can take your time teaching him."
"I will not bend the knee," hissed the man, no longer looking as perfect. The muscles under his skin rippled as black veins appeared all over his body.
"Looks like the poisons have been eating away at more than just your body," replied Lust, his face impassive. "Because you are dumber than a bag of bricks."
"When I kill your body, you’ll have no choice but to accept me," smiled the man/god in front of Désiré.
"You kill me, and you won’t last more than two minutes when she sees you," advised Lust with a shrug.
The man narrowed his eyes. "She, who is she?"
"She is everything," breathed Désiré.
"Lust is more than good looks and sex," sneered the demon, teaching both men at the same time. "Lust is about wanting. You lust for money. You lust for power. You lust for perfection."
"You lust for her," breathed Désiré, his eyes wide.
It was okay for him to lust for Hattie. It didn’t make him dirty or unworthy, because it was only normal to lust for her. She was everything that the human and demon needed to be whole, because she was all that they wanted.
"Now you understand," smiled Lust like a proud parent. With a snap of his finger, a black mist crossed the clearing to the man/god who was still trying to understand what the demon was saying. Within seconds, the jungle was eating yet another victim.
"Now, let’s go back to our woman. I need a nap."
