Chapter 339: Sweet Hell

I stared down at the lone figure as he made his way through the crowd. His shoulders were back, and his head was held high, but there was no way he wasn’t affected. That type of betrayal cut you to the bone if you let it.

And it was really hard to not let it.

The ten of us were at the top of the main building, watching the show that was going on around us with mild amusement. At Désiré’s request, I had even brought out the popcorn as we witnessed everything that had happened.

I really was going to nominate Alicia for an award or something. Her acting was nothing short of genius, and the fact that everyone seemed to have bought it was even more remarkable. Everyone was fussing over the wound in her hip, but if she wasn’t careful, it was going to be healed long before a doctor was able to see her.

Sitting with my feet dangling over the edge of the roof, I couldn’t help but cock my head to the side and look at Dante, who was standing behind me."

"Does it hurt to see him like that?" I asked, tipping my head toward Bishop. His head was bleeding like only head wounds could, but he still hadn’t shown the slightest bit of weakness. I almost found myself cheering for him.

"He made his bed," shrugged Dante after a moment. "Now he gets to sleep in it."

"It’s almost like divine retribution," I smirked as even the guards turned their backs. "Betrayed and then betrayed. Like a circle that never seems to end." Bishop had betrayed Dante and had turned his back on the man who he had considered to be both a friend and a boss for god only knew how many years. All in the name of saving humans.

Now the same humans he had worked so hard to save were now turning their backs on him, his new friends and wife now betraying him.

"Maybe we should kill him so that he can be reborn with all his memories intact. That way, he can restart the entire cycle over again... only to die and then come back to life..."

"Scary," muttered Salvatore from where he sat beside me. Shrugging my shoulders, I didn’t deny it.

"You can’t kill him without starting a war," reminded Daddy from where he and Tank were leaning against a wall. While we might have been on the roof, there was still a boxed in area where the staircase was. Ronan was even higher up than I was, sleeping on the roof of the box, a gun cuddled in his arms.

"And I’m not worried about a war," I reminded him back with a chuckle. "Besides, I really have to wonder just how much the other angels value Bishop if they have left him here for so long. There might not even be a war if they don’t think he is worth it."

"It isn’t about his worth," sighed Chang Xuefeng with a shake of his head. "It’s about their reputation. They can’t let just anyone get away with disrespecting them."

"Meh," I shrugged, coming to my feet. "Come what may and all that shit. I’m tired. I want to go home."

"What do we tell the MCs?" asked Luca, his head cocked to the side as he stared out over the wall at Bishop. "After all, we came here to rescue their people. If we go back empty handed..."

"What are they going to do to us?" I sneered, hopping off the ledge I was standing on and dusting off the back of my dress. Luca didn’t react but simply raised an eyebrow. Letting out a long sigh, I waved my hand in the air.

"If they have to blame anyone, blame the base. Death was a merciful ending for those five men who experienced more than anyone ever should have."

"I thought dey couldn’t die," interjected Beau, a look of confusion on his face as he turned to me. "Are you sure dey are dead?"

"When a hellhound kills someone, they tend to stay dead," I replied as Salvatore gave me a kiss to the top of my head. "Besides. I gave them eternal life; I can take it back just as easily."

Dante hummed and headed toward the door to the exit. "Where to next?" he asked, looking at me from over his shoulder.

"Home," I replied with a breathy voice. "I need a break. All this betrayal, screaming, and blood is exhausting. I want my bed, snacks, and a series that I can binge... in that order."

"Sounds good," agreed Tank, pushing Salvatore out of the way to take my hand.

However, Ronan scoffed loud enough to draw everyone’s attention. "Like yous donna love de screaming ’n blood," he purred, his voice rich and deep as he looked down at me.

"You didn’t need to call me out like that," I chuckled, blowing him a kiss. Did I love the chaos of the last couple of days? Absolutely.

But kind of like candy, too much of a good thing turned it into a bad thing.

I wanted peace and quiet and to spend some time with just me and the guys.

I was human-ed out, and any more exposure was sure to send me into a rage.

The men around me laughed at the expression on my face. "Okay," agreed Chang Xuefeng. "Let’s get you into bed. A nap will make everything better."

Nodding in agreement, I opened the door to the stairs, dreaming of my bed.

----

"What the ever-loving fuck is this!" I demanded. The moment I stepped through the doorway, I was in another world. One that was white and cold as hell.

Leaning away from the snowbank that I had managed to walk straight into, I spat out a mouthful of the white stuff. There was no way that this was my house, let alone my bed. I had made my desires perfectly clear when I opened the door, so why wasn’t I currently in my bedroom?!?

What the sweet hell was going on now?!?
