Chapter 313: A Dream or A Nightmare?

"You have to help me," begged the man in front of me, his eyes wide as he held out a single hand. His other hand was gripping the bars of the cage he was currently in. It was bigger than mine; he was able to kneel in his even as he struggled to touch me. "Please, help me."

"And just how do you expect me to be able to do that?" I asked from behind my own bars. I was lying on my stomach at the moment, my legs bent behind me. I could feel the coldness of the metal seeping into my stomach as I fought against the shiver.

"You need to kill me; you grant wishes, right? Everyone here knows that you can give us what we want as long as we ask for it. And not I am asking. Please, kill me. I want to die... I need to die. Why aren’t you hurrying up and killing me?!?"

Closing my eyes, I fought against the panic starting to grow inside of me. This wasn’t real. I wasn’t in a cage. I was asleep on Salvatore’s chest as his fingers drifted up and down my spine. This was just a dream. Nothing more than a dream.

"Really?" hissed the man, the expression on his face morphing from a look of desolation to one of smugness. His hand that was trying to reach me suddenly stopped moving, his flesh turning from pale white to yellow, to blue... to back. "You think this is a dream? Oh, sugar plum, this isn’t a dream, it’s a fucking nightmare. But there is no place for you to escape. Like me, you are stuck here. And no one is coming to save you."

No, that wasn’t possible. My guys would look for me; they were strong in their own right. They were the Seven Deadly Sins, the Angel of Death, and Ramsey, my Hound. They would find me... and I would be free.

Movement out of the corner of my eye caused me to look back at the hand just in front of my face before it detached itself from the man’s arm. The moment it fell, it was spread out, all five fingers pointing in a different direction.

The skin covering the bones and muscles wasn’t like my Pride demon; the blackness looked like dying flesh. Something just under the surface seemed to be wiggling frantically as if excited. Suddenly, the hand jumped up, the tip of all five fingers pressed together before it scurried toward my cell.

Scared, I rolled over and curled into a ball, trying to get away from the appendage that was now rushing toward me. The bars of my cage didn’t even slow it down as it jumped inside, reaching me at a speed my brain was barely keeping up with.

"What pretty flesh," purred the man as he stared at me, his head cocked to the side at an unnatural angle. "I bet you will taste the best out of everyone here. So fresh, so soft, so tender." With each word the man spoke, one of the fingers on the hand would stroke whatever part of me was exposed.

It wasn’t until that exact moment that I caught on to the fact that the reason why I was so cold was because I was completely naked.

With my legs crossed and brought up to my chest to make myself smaller, I had inadvertently left the most vulnerable parts of my body exposed. "You can’t be real," I hissed, trying to pull myself together. I was the fucking Devil, where were my powers? Why couldn’t I just snap my fingers and be free of the cage?

No, this was nothing more than an illusion brought by Lilith to terrify me again. But I wouldn’t let her win. I couldn’t let her win.

"Don’t fucking touch me," I growled low, still trying to maneuver my body away from the hand that was touching me. "You better hope that I never get out of this cage, or I am going to tear you apart! Starting with your hands."

"You don’t like my hands?" purred the man. The same things that were wiggling under the skin of his hand were now moving under the skin of his face. One white maggot wiggled so far that it managed to escape through his eye, only to re-enter his body on the other side. "How about my tongue?"

Opening his mouth, I watched in horror as his tongue detached itself from inside his mouth and fell to the floor. Like the hand, it stayed there for a moment before slithering toward me.

"Is there any other part of my body that you would like in your cage?" asked the man, his words too clear considering he no longer had a tongue. "I’d give you my heart, but that was the first thing Adam carved out of me."

The hand that was in my cage was now crawling up my arms as I tried to fling it away. However, as much as I fought it off, it refused to leave me alone. Its nails dug into my skin, leaving trails of blood as it continued to climb up.

Every time it split my arms open, I could feel one of the maggots inside the hand fall free and enter my body. I couldn’t even scream as I watched the wound heal behind it like it had never been there. But I could feel the worm moving through my body.

Falling against the side of the bars, I started to vomit, my body shaking in fear and shock as the hand continued its way up my body until it reached my face.

It took less than a second for it to completely cover my mouth, and I could feel its dry, leathery palm against my lips even as I continued to empty my stomach.

But now, everything was forced back down my throat, causing me to choke.

The more I fought, the harder the man across from me laughed until I couldn’t take it anymore. Just as I started seeing black dots from the corner of my eyes, I felt something pushing itself between my legs.

"No!" I screamed, my head banging against the cage. But the hand over my mouth kept me silenced. Only I could hear me screaming.
