Chapter 185: God Help The World

Letting out a loud growl, I put all my emotions inside a cage and pushed the cage down into the deepest part of my mind, where Luci used to be.

Sadness, happiness, anger, fear, all of them were shut out. The only one that was keeping me going at the moment was rage, and I was holding onto that sucker for dear life.

Demons were coming to Earth. Luci told me to run, and those without powers were going to be possessed.

Add on dumb zombies, mutated zombies, Reavers, killer clowns, and whatever other fucked up thing people wished for, and the world just became a whole lot more interesting.

As if feeling the change inside of me, all three of my men backed off and formed a line in front of me. "What do you need?" asked Tank, stepping forward, his face just as devoid of emotions as I imagined mine to be.

"Gluttony," I announced. But then I remembered what Luci had told me. I was the mother fucking Devil. If I wanted something, I didn’t need to wait for anyone to get it for me. I could do that myself.

With a snap of my fingers, the four of us were standing just outside the male dorms as the moon lit up the night sky. Another snap of my fingers, and there was Gluttony, standing beside Pride with a worried look on his face.

"What’s going on?" he asked. His words might have been for his brother, but since he was looking at me, I decided to answer him.

"We are leaving," I announced. "Now."

Looking down at the green sweater and thigh-high socks I was wearing, I felt a sharp stabbing sensation in my chest. Ruthlessly pushing it back, I snapped my fingers again, and I was wearing leather pants with a black tank top and combat boots.

This was the outfit that I thought I should be wearing to go to war, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Luci spent God only knows how many years pushing herself down, doing what everyone wanted, only to be shat on.

Since I was the only living part of Luci left, I was going to honor her memories in a different way. I was going to live my life the way I wanted to, just like she encouraged me to. Another snap of my fingers, and I was in a black military-style Lolita dress with two rows of buttons on either side of my chest and my trusty Mary Janes on my feet.

Yes, this was much more me.

Chang Xuefeng nodded his head, and a beautiful set of pure white wings exploded from his back. Picking me up into his arms, he launched himself into the air and over the wall. Landing hard on the other side, he put me down and tucked his wings away as if I had just imagined the whole thing.

"That’s—" I started before shaking my head. "We’ll talk about that. But are you sure that you aren’t an angel? What is coming next... demons are going to possess everyone without a power."

Chang Xuefeng snorted, the disdain evident in that short sound. "I would like to see a demon try," he sneered. "I might be called the Angel of Death... but I don’t belong to either side. Besides, even if I did, I would be more than willing to Fall in order to be with you."

Pride and Gluttony landed much quieter on either side of Chang Xuefeng, their bat-like wings practically invisible in the darkness. Of course, their horns and tails stood out a bit, but I wasn’t going to complain.

"What about...?"

Tank simply appeared beside me, his back straight as he adjusted his t-shirt. "I don’t need wings," he sneered, looking over his shoulder at the other three. "Or horns."

"Yeah, yeah," I sighed, feeling a bit more relaxed now that we had done everything that Luci had died trying to tell us. We were out and away from the humans. Now, I just needed to figure out what I needed to do next.

"How do you feel about killing demons?" I asked, looking directly at Gluttony and Pride. "’Cause I think that it was going to be next on my list of things to do. In fact, I don’t think I am going to rest until every last fucker is gone."

"Including us?" chuckled Gluttony. I think he was trying to remind me that I couldn’t live without them, but right now... all I could see was the green arm of Greed reaching into Luci’s chest and pulling out her heart.

Not to mention, each one of the Sins had a fraction of my soul inside of them. That was what made them different from everyone else in their caste. My soul was what made them special... and maybe, just maybe... I wanted my soul back again.

I looked at Gluttony and Pride... at Beau and Dante... but I couldn’t reassure the demon.

"I don’t know," I replied honestly. "I guess that is going to depend on how I feel at the end of everything."

There was an uncomfortable silence as Tank took my hand and led me forward. "Are you sure that you can trust this Luci?" asked Chang Xuefeng softly, clearly not wanting to get me upset. "I just mean that nothing has happened yet. We might be..."

"Don’t finish that sentence," growled Tank, cutting the Angel of Death off before he could piss me off even more.

"I trust Luci more than I trust any of you," I chuckled. I half expected Tank to withdraw his hand as if I had hurt him, but he simply shrugged his shoulders and held on tighter.

"Why?" demanded Pride. "I’ve never heard of Luci, and I have been beside you and in your mind since you were four years old. I have known you almost your entire life, and you still can’t trust me?"

Stopping in my tracks, I turned around to confront the Sin. "Luci..." I said her name softly. "Lucifer. Satan. Devil..." With each name that I called her, my heart broke just a bit more. "You know her by a bunch of different names, even if you didn’t know who you were addressing at the time. Gluttony called her your evil, vindictive creator. I call her..."

I trailed off, shaking my head. There was no point in wasting my breath. Luci was gone, and in her place was Hattie.

God help the world... because I really wasn’t going to.
