Chapter 163: That Was Interesting
Marcus led the way to my small room, and I could feel the doctor tensing under me as he saw where I was sleeping.
His chest seemed to vibrate as if he was letting out a low growl, however he didn’t make a sound as he simply placed me on the bed and then walked out of the room again.
I scrapped the top of my tongue over my back teeth as I remembered the look on his face as he took me in for the first time. I was sure that there was something wrong with me to be attracted to so many different men, but I really couldn’t help myself.
I was probably making up for lost time or something...
"Are you sure you are going to be okay?" asked Marcus as he approached my bed. Widening my eyes, I nodded my head slowly.
"It’s just hurts a bit," I said, letting out a soft whimper.
"I bet it hurts," replied Marcus, placing his hand against my cheek. However, the second he touched me, my skin started to crawl and buzz like angry bees were hovering just under it, waiting to attack. "I should have known that your mother would do something like that."
Shaking my head, I counted the seconds until the hot doctor came back. "It was my fault. You can’t blame her when I am not... good," I whispered, starting to plant the first few seeds. "She thinks that I am evil... that I have a devil inside me."
Frantically, Marcus shook his head. "No, you are nothing short of an angel... an angel who can grant all my wishes."
"Do you have another wish for me?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. I wasn’t going to go any farther with our original conversation. Now all that needed to happen was for Maman to say something to him...
I wonder if he will explode...Hell, he must just be upset enough to kill her.
Now wouldn’t that be a pretty sight?
"You’re hurt," murmured Marcus, smudging some of my blood with his thumb. "I can’t ask you for a wish when you are hurt."
Hmmm... definitely not true, but I wasn’t going to shoot myself in the foot. If he thought that me being hurt would result in less wishes, then he would have even more reason to protect me.
"I’m sorry," I sighed, looking completely miserable. "The second I feel better, I’ll grant you as many wishes as you want!"
Marcus chuckled as his face went dark. "I’ll get your mother into bed," he said, coming to his feet. The anger radiating off him was enough to make me want to bounce in happiness. "Tomorrow, I’ll make sure that she apologizes to you."
"Don’t worry," I replied with a shake of my head. "I am not worthy of Maman apologizing to me. Tomorrow, we’ll just pretend that nothing happened, okay? That was how we used to do it."
"Your mother has beaten you before?" demanded Marcus, his eyes widening as if he was shocked. I mean, he might have been. I clearly inherited my acting abilities from my mother, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she had him that fooled.
However, looking deep into his eyes, the voice inside of me scoffed. "Liar," she whispered. "And not a good one at that."
Well, that settled it then, didn’t it? He knew that Maman had no problems hurting me in the past. But, since there was no disadvantage to him, he pushed it out of his mind.
"My bones are so fragile, that a simple push would be enough to break them," I nodded. Taking his hand, I guided up and down my forearm where the bone had snapped when the bear and the snake took me from home.
I had no idea how it healed, but when you touched it, you could feel the bumps and bends where there wasn’t supposed to be any. In some cases, when the wounds weren’t stapled shut, they healed quickly. I assumed it was due to some adaptation where my body knew that it had to heal fast before the next beating came.
Taking his hand from my arm, I let Marcus touch my side and the ribs that had also been snapped and callused over. The bumps weren’t nearly as noticeable as those on my forearms, but the Governor took advantage of the situation and I felt his thumb rubbing over top of my dress as he felt me up.
"I am so scared," I murmured again, leaning against the man as if I needed his strength and support. "What happens if she breaks another one of my bones and then it is months before I can grant you another wish?"
Looking up at Marcus, I felt the rage and fear filter through him as he realized what I was saying. "I’ll deal with your mother," he assured me, gently placing me back down on the bed before giving me a kiss on the forehead. "I promise you, she will never raise a hand to you again."
"Okay, Sir," I nodded, making sure my eyes were wide and innocent. This type of deception was a double edged sword. Just enough and I would be protected... too much and he would realize that I was manipulating him and that would lead to anger.
But it was a line I loved dancing on.
"I trust you."
Letting out a low grunt as he stroked my head, Marcus once again kissed my forehead and stood up, straightening his suit. "I will protect you," he assured me right before spinning around and leaving the room.
I closed my eyes as soon as I heard the door shut behind him, needing to give myself a chance to recover from his touch.
Fuck I hated to be touched...
Dreaming of either a really hot shower where I could wash his touch and scent off my skin or stepping into a burning fire to burn it all away, I missed the door opening.
"Well, Sugar," murmured the doctor, his voice low as he stood beside my bed. "That was interesting."
