Chapter 103: Round One

Dusk was approaching the next time I heard the sound of heavy footsteps.

"You’re up," announced the Guard. Kneeling down, he took out an inconspicuous key and undid the chains keeping me locked in.

Shifting around so that I was on my hands and feet, I crawled out of the cage. "This might be a problem," I announced, coming to my new height. "Do you have any clothes I can borrow?"

It wasn’t that I was overly modest, don’t get me wrong, but I was still wearing the red dress from the Dragon’s Lair that was short-ish on me when I was shorter. However, now I had easily grown another six inches, and the puffy skirt was barely covering anything when I stood still, let alone when I fought.

Added to the fact that the back of the dress was ripped due to Antoine’s whip, this dress wasn’t going to hold up to a sneeze, let alone movement.

"Here," growled Rip as he stomped toward the Guard. Shoving a bundle in his arms, Rip continued. "Alpha said to put her in this."

A part of me actually wondered if the Alpha had any such intentions or if this was yet another gift from Wang Tian Mu. Rip didn’t seem to respect the Alpha enough to be his lap dog, but I could be wrong.

Shrugging his shoulders, my Guard flung the clothes into my arms. "Get changed."

Rolling my eyes, I started stripping, not caring about the audience. They were more than welcome to look, but there would be no touching.

I had never had to bother with a bra, my almost A cups not really needing any type of support, so to have a much bigger set of breasts to deal with was making me frustrated.

I really shouldn’t have thought about my lack of sex life and kept my child-like body. Getting used to all the changes was way worse than just getting my eyesight back.

Squeezing into the tight pants and shirt, I rolled my shoulders, wondering if these were going to hold up any better than my poor dress. But beggars couldn’t be choosers, so I was going to have to go with it.

I left my feet bare simply because I didn’t want to sacrifice my Mary Janes to a pit fight. When I returned to my cage, I would find a way to grab a pair of boots from my space. And maybe a chocolate bar or something.

Frig, I was hungry.

As if cued by my thoughts, my stomach started growling in protest of what I didn’t know. It wasn’t like I was keeping it empty on purpose.

"You’ll get a bun if you survive round one," announced the Guard. The reaver started walking forward to a set of gates I hadn’t noticed before. He nodded to the Guard at the gate, and the other reaver nodded back.

Unlocking the gate, he waited for the two of us to slip through before the metal barrier closed with a bang.

The new section of Camp Hell seemed to be night and day from the women’s section. Here, the cages were a lot bigger, probably 7’x10’, and had a bed, a mattress, a table, and even a chair for comfort.

Some of the bigger cages had multiple occupants, but it was nowhere near as bad as the dog cages I had just left.

"This is the men’s section," announced my Guard as he hurried me forward toward yet another gate. "Otherwise known as the fighter’s side. If you win your fight, you’ll be put in whoever’s cage you defeated. Work hard, and you can get everything you ever wished for."

The poor reaver had no idea who he was dealing with.

"I have no doubt I will get everything I have ever wished for," I smiled up at him. "It’s just a matter of hard work."

"Now see, why can’t the others have that sort of attitude?" sighed the reaver as he nodded at the second set of guards. After checking my paperwork, they let me through the last layer of security before getting to the pit, or the rings, or whatever they called their fighting arena.

"Hard times make hard men, hard men make soft times, soft times make soft men, soft men make hard times," I shrugged like I knew what I was talking about. It was a quote that I had heard Père mutter more than once to demonstrate just why he was the only true man left on earth.

"I hope you win this fight," sighed the Guard like I had just sited a prophecy or something where he won a million dollars. Looking around, he leaned even closer to me. "There is always at least one knife buried in the sand of the pit. If you can find it, it’s yours to keep for the whole fight. So far, no one has been able to find it."

Well, wasn’t this Guard just a fountain of knowledge? "Thank you for that," I whispered back to him, a ’somber’ look on my face as if I appreciated his sacrifice. "I will try to do you proud."

The reaver smacked me hard on my back, sending me stumbling forward a few steps before I could get my balance again. "I’m putting my money on you. Don’t disappoint me, and there might be some meat with your bun tonight."

Nodding my head frantically, I walked into the newest circle of Hell.

----

The pit was exactly like its name suggested. It was a hole dug deep into the ground where the fighters were expected to fight. The seat rose from the edge like I had seen in a movie about the Roman times.

Even now, the crowd around me screamed and jeered at me, their voices creating a symphony of chaos so loud that I couldn’t hear anything else.

Standing in front of me was a thin man, maybe just under six feet tall, with long arms and legs. He looked terrified, his gaze going around the arena as if looking for a way out.

"Please," he begged, turning his big, terrified eyes to me. "Please don’t hurt me."

The sound of a horn cut through the noise: Round One had officially started.
