Chapter 60: Start of the Drill

"Do you understand?" the lieutenant asked, standing before a large blackboard in the most oversized room at the mining site.

Tim and the other two sergeants joined the drills alongside the 23 newly promoted sergeants who sat before him. Some nodded in understanding, while others stared blankly. Among those who seemed distracted were Tyson and Alex.

The brothers smirked at one another, pretending to understand the concept written on the board, when in reality, they had lost track of the explanation somewhere along the way.

"Crap, I guess he got it," Tyson muttered under his breath, watching Alex cautiously.

After staring at the board for a long moment, Alex suddenly began scribbling notes like a man on a mission.

Tyson quickly followed suit—not because he had any idea what was happening but because he had a plan.

Unlike Alex, who hoped to figure things out later, Tyson already had his strategy ready. That strategy involved Shaun, their resident theory expert.

As the class concluded, the sergeants started to exit the room.

"Remember," the lieutenant said, "this theory will determine your grades, which will be turned into points for your ranking. I hope you take it seriously—it’s for your benefit."

At the entrance, Tyson and Alex stopped, inadvertently blocking the exit. They exchanged glances, first at each other and then at the notebooks they held.

"Do you even get any of this?" Alex smirked.

"Maybe," Tyson replied, echoing his smirk. "What about you? You don’t have a smart guy like Shaun on your team, do you?"

Alex’s expression darkened. The realization struck him hard—even if Tyson didn’t grasp the concepts now, Shaun would ensure he understood everything in that notebook. Meanwhile, Alex had no such support—he’d need to figure it out himself.

The sergeants behind them hesitated, observing the rivalry unfold. No one dared to speak, fully aware of who these two were.

In the Rangers, bullying among peers was prevalent. Superiors often overlooked it, believing it would compel cadets to toughen up. But here? No one dared to challenge these two.

Their father was none other than the General himself.

Everyone was grateful that Tyson and Alex weren’t the bullying type.

"SHAUN!" Tyson shouted as soon as he entered the tent.

Ken, who had been drinking from a bottle of water, nearly choked at Tyson’s sudden outburst. "Why the hell are you yelling?" he snapped.

Ignoring him, Tyson handed the notebook to Shaun. "Check this out," he instructed before returning to Ken, who stood his ground defiantly.

"What? What are you going to do, huh?" Ken challenged.

Tyson smiled—a menacing kind of smile. "Training starts tonight. Prepare yourself."

Ken scoffed and crossed his arms. "Hah, it’s just training. What is there to prepare for?"

"We’ll see," Tyson smirked as he scanned the tent. "Where’s Lara?"

Still focused on his notebook, Shaun replied, "She went to shower."

Ken’s head shot up. "What?! Why did she tell you that and not me?"

Shaun paused and flipped a page. "She told me to inform Senior if he asked."

The underling started to speak, but Ken was quicker—he covered the guy’s mouth with his hand, his face reddening with frustration.

"Don’t you dare connect the dots."

---

That evening, Tyson stood on the training ground as his team—Shaun, Lara, Ken, and the underling—lined up on the race field, which stretched almost five miles.

Ken frowned as he held up his wrist. "Why do we have to wear these?" he complained, glancing at the bracelet fastened around him.

The small device showed a zero, just like everyone else’s. It was designed to track their mileage, automatically recording their progress.

Tyson crossed his arms. "First task: running. Forty miles as a team."

Shaun’s eyes widened. "Wait... forty miles?"

"That’s right," Tyson confirmed. "I get five points if all of you complete it. That means you must run at least ten miles—two laps around the field."

Ken let out a groan. "This is crazy..."

Tyson smirked. "You better start running or be out here all night."

Lara sprinted ahead like an athlete, as if in a race, while Shaun maintained a steady, controlled pace behind her.

Ken hesitated, gazing at the expansive field. Ten miles all at once? He could barely handle five miles a day, and now he had to double that?

"Boss, just tell me what to do, and I’ll follow your lead," the subordinate said, looking to Ken for direction.

Ken clenched his jaw. "No choice. Let’s run for now."

In just ten minutes, the cadets were soaked in sweat. Ken dragged his feet, struggling to keep up, while the underling had already collapsed onto the ground. Refusing to give up, he resorted to elbowing his way forward—until Tyson smacked him on the rear with a long stick he had borrowed from the lieutenant.

"Get up and run correctly!" Tyson barked.

Shaun maintained a steady pace while Tyson generally left him alone. However, his actual distraction was Lara.

The setting sun illuminated her fit physique, rendering her irresistibly charming in her snug workout clothes.

She glanced at her bracelet. The number 10 flashed on the display—she had completed her 10 miles before any of the boys.

"I—I did it, Senior!" Lara shouted, slightly breathless but beaming with pride.

Tyson cleared his throat. "Good job. Y-You should go rest."

Lara smiled, noticing the hesitance in his voice. "I’m fine. I’ll stay with you, Senior."

I’m not okay, Tyson groaned internally.

She appeared even more alluring after her workout, her skin shining with perspiration. She grabbed a water bottle and tilted her head back to drink deeply, keeping her gaze fixed on Tyson.

Shaun and Ken arrived one after the other, both exhausted, while the underling barely managed to cover his ten miles before collapsing on his feet.

Tyson glanced at his bracelet as it flashed five points, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. "Good. Now, for the next seven days, this will be our warm-up."

Ken’s jaw dropped—the subordinate, still lying on the ground, feigned unconsciousness.

"Are you serious?" Ken exclaimed.

Tyson said, "Indeed, my dear, I am."

"You can’t do this to us!" Ken protested. "If you want points, do it yourself. We won’t follow your orders!"

Tyson sighed, as if he had expected this all along. "I knew this was coming. That’s why I prepared..."

Lara and Shaun exchanged inquisitive glances, waiting to see what Tyson would do next.

They both knew Ken’s reputation: a bully, stubborn, and the kind of guy who used his father’s rank to intimidate others. He had influenced their school, leaving Shaun and Lara powerless to challenge him.

Then, to their surprise, Tyson took out his phone and dialed a number.

A few rings later, a gruff voice answered. It was Ken’s father, a lieutenant-ranked Ranger.

"Hello, young master. How may I assist you?" the lieutenant greeted with respect.

Ken stood still, his mouth suddenly parched.

Tyson spoke without delay. "Lieutenant, your son won’t obey orders, so I’m going to break his bones and then force him to train with me. Do you have a problem with that?"

Lara’s breath seized in her throat.

Did he really say that? To a lieutenant?

Tyson had casually threatened to break a superior’s son and wasn’t even joking.

Silence lingered before the lieutenant replied, his voice entirely unfazed.

"Do whatever you like, young master. I’ve entrusted him to your care. Even if he dies during training, I won’t hold you accountable."

"Thanks, sir," Tyson grinned.

Ken’s complexion turned pale. Did he hear that correctly?

His father had just abandoned him to this devil? How could this happen? Wasn’t he his cherished son?

Lara was equally stunned yet impressed. A smile spread across her lips as she recognized Tyson’s power.

At the same time, the subordinate was left speechless.

He had dared to oppose Tyson only because he believed Ken had a lieutenant’s backing. But now?

Now, they were both at the mercy of the White Dragon.

"Your name is Bee, correct?" Tyson asked.

The underling, suddenly revitalized, nodded his head so enthusiastically that it seemed as if he had just been granted a new lease on life.

"Yes, Sergeant!"

Tyson smirked. "Good. I’ll reduce it to eight since ten miles seems too much for you."

Bee’s face brightened with gratitude. "Thank you, Sergeant!"

Tyson then turned to Ken and said, "And you, starting tomorrow, will run twelve miles."

"WHAT? WHY?" Ken shouted in outrage, glaring at Bee. "Why on earth should I run extra miles?!"

Tyson grinned mischievously. "Of course, you are here to help your teammate. Come on, buddy, it’s all about bonding. It’s a team effort and everything."

Ken seemed on the verge of exploding.

Meanwhile, Bee hesitated to speak. "I accept... but—" He trailed off, sensing Ken’s murderous glare.

Tyson dismissed the tension. "Don’t worry. He won’t make things hard for you as long as you stick with us."

Bee quickly stood tall. "Absolutely, sir!" he exclaimed.

Ken’s eyes twitched. "You traitor!"

Bee winced. "I’m just following orders, boss! Please forgive me!"

Ken clenched his fists. "Orders my ass! You want to offload everything onto me!"

Their voices faded into the distance, their bickering echoing across the field as Tyson, Lara, and Shaun walked off.

Lara and Shaun shared knowing glances, shaking their heads.

Things were about to get interesting.
