Chapter 47: Mad Man
Chapter 47: Mad Man
Coco stood a few meters away, looking over the collapsed building. His purple aura glowed threateningly around his metal armor, excluding a quiet strength in the midst of destruction surrounding him. Once alive with clashing warriors, the battlefield was now filled with chaos.
Just moments ago, it had appeared that the Rangers and Rogues could overwhelm Coco by sheer numbers. However, his clever tactic had turned their advantage into a death trap. Now, nearly two-thirds of their forces were buried beneath the debris, trapped under shattered glass, twisted steel, and mountains of concrete.
Panic set in quickly. The survivors of the collapsed building ran to the wreckage, frantically trying to rescue their comrades in trouble. The Rangers and Rogues used their armor-enhanced strength to lift heavy steel beams to clear away stone slabs. Yet, for every individual they freed, another wail of pain echoed beneath the debris.
The lieutenant stepped forward, his voice cutting through the chaos.
"Pull him out, Sergeant!" he commanded, grunting as he lifted a massive steel beam out of the way.
The sergeant paused. "Sir... he’s a rogue."
"I don’t give a damn!" the lieutenant snapped, his eyes blazing with anger. "Get him out now!"
The Ranger obeyed, taking the outstretched, dusty hand from the wreckage. With a firm tug, he pulled the Rogue free. The man’s metal armor saved him from the brunt of the collapse, but the impact had rendered him barely conscious.
"Is he okay?" the lieutenant asked, kneeling to assess his condition. He touched the rogue’s armor, sensing his chest’s faint rise and fall.
"He’s breathing... We have to get everyone out of there. Go! Get the others to help—regardless of who they are!"
The sergeant gave a nod. "Yes, sir!" He rushed off, yelling orders to the scattered fighters.
Across the battlefield, Rangers and Rogues set aside their differences, working together to lift debris, dig, and search for any signs of life. Calls for help came from beneath the wreckage, urging them to push harder and ignore the fatigue seeping into their muscles.
Yet through it all, one figure remained unmoving.
Coco stood on higher ground, his gaze fixed on the scene below. The ruins of the battlefield stretched out before him, and the warriors struggled in the aftermath of his strategy. His glowing eyes showed no remorse—only silent calculation.
The lieutenant’s glare fixed on him, fists clenched as fury and determination burned inside him. This fight was far from over.
The news chopper circled overhead, its cameras broadcasting a live feed to every screen in the city. In the distance, the wail of ambulance sirens could be heard, growing louder as emergency teams rushed to the battlefield to save people.
Just moments ago, the public had watched anxiously, believing the Rangers and Rogues had finally taken the upper hand. They witnessed the two sides put aside their differences and unite against a common enemy. Victory felt within reach and just a few steps away...
But now... The footage told a different story.
The battlefield lay in complete ruins. The strong alliance had collapsed, crushed under the debris of a fallen building. The Rangers and Rogues, who had seemed so strong, now struggled to survive. Some pulled their comrades from the rubble, while others staggered, wounded and exhausted. Meanwhile, Coco, the one they had all fought against, stood tall and unscathed.
Viewers stared in stunned silence in homes, bars, and crowded city squares.
"This can’t be happening..." a woman whispered, her hand covering her mouth.
"They had him! They had him right there!" another voice shouted at the screen.
A man in a military jacket shook his head. "They never stood a chance. That bastard played them like a damn game."
Social media exploded with outrage and fear.
@SkylineWatcher: They teamed up... and STILL lost? We’re doomed!
@Verix_Live: Did you see that? Coco barely broke a sweat! How on earth we gonna fight someone like that?!
@NewsWire: BREAKING: Chaos erupts in the city! followed by a crushing defeat of the Rangers. The Rangers and Rogues are in dire state, while Coco remains unharmed.
At the newsdesk, one anchor’s voice falters "For those tuning in late, what you’re witnessing is a complete disaster. The Rangers and Rogues, as combined forces, failed to take out their target. The battle has left dozens trapped, and we’re still awaiting confirmation on casualties."
People gathered around store windows in the streets, their faces painted with disbelief. Parents held their children tighter. Store owners turned up the volume on their televisions. A tense silence descended over the city—a collective realization that the defenders they had trusted were not invincible as they had all believed.
And the enemy... Still watching... Still undefeated.
"How did this happen?" Seraphina trembled at sight.
Alex’s gaze fixed on the destruction ahead. They had narrowly escaped the collapse.
"I-It was my fault..." she stammered, gripping his jacket tight."I gave the order... I told them to fight together. And when they obeyed, the enemy struck. This is on me."
She felt the burden of it all—the responsibility, the sense of failure. This could have been avoided if she hadn’t urged them into battle.
"No," Alex said firmly, his gaze shifting toward Tyson, who was struggling to lift a heavy metal beam with sheer determination. Beneath it, a Rogue was trapped, groaning in agony.
"You revealed the truth to them," he continued. "You offered them a chance to fight back."
"Hold on..." Tyson huffed, muscles straining as he pushed against the beam. "I... huff... I’ll get you out."
"Here." Shaun appeared beside him, holding a steel rod. They wedged it under the debris, and their combined power Slowly lifted the weight to allow Rogue to slip free.
Seraphina watched in silence, panicked.
Alex pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. "You’re the future leader for all of us. How can you allow the panic to get the best of you?"
Seraphina bit her lip, his words encouraging her. "Y-You’re right... If my father were here, he wouldn’t hesitate. He would help."
Taking a deep breath, she straightened her posture, determination lighting up her eyes. Alex watched her silently, aware that she had just made her first step forward.
She wiped away her tears and rushed forward to assist the medical staff—helping the wounded, offering water, and doing everything she could to support the relief efforts.
"Put down the camera and assist them!" she yelled at a news reporter, her voice piercing the turmoil.
The reporter flinched, taken aback. Spotting the president’s daughter actively assisting the injured, he paused before lowering his camera. The moment didn’t go unnoticed.
The onlookers in the crowd, who had been holding their breath in silence, started to move. Some individuals exchanged glances before advancing.
"If she’s giving it her all, why not us?" a woman said, emerging from behind the shelter.
"She’s the same age as my daughter... yet she standing strong," an elderly man added with awe.
And then something more surprising happened. Even More, volunteers stepped forward, including those who had only recently been captives of the Rogues.
They hesitated at first, their bodies still quivering from the ordeal. However, seeing Seraphina—someone who had every reason to hide yet helped instead—sparked something within them.
One by one, they stepped forward, extending their hands to lift debris, carry the wounded, and support the struggling medics.
Despite being on opposing sides, even some of the injured Rangers and Rogues began to work together silently.
Nearby officials watched, filled with gratitude. Their forces were stretched thin, but now—thanks to one young girl’s bravery—help was arriving from the very people they vowed to protect.
At that moment, Seraphina was more than just the president’s daughter. She was the beacon of hope they all needed.
"The battle isn’t over," Alex muttered, his gaze shifting to Blue, who stood by an ambulance, watching as his injured friend was carefully loaded onto a stretcher.
Above them, the news helicopter circled, broadcasting the unfolding chaos to every household in the city. The footage displayed the raw devastation but also something remarkable—Rangers and Rogues collaborating, civilians stepping up to assist. Even in the face of destruction, humanity remained resilient. Hope was not lost.
But then—a massive piece of debris raced through the air.
Standing on the wreckage, Coco hurled a rock directly at the helicopter’s tail. The impact caused the aircraft to spiral out of control.
"No!" someone screamed.
The chopper veered wildly, metal screeching as it grazed the side of a nearby building before crashing into it in a fiery explosion. The pilots and reporters inside never had a chance to survive.
A profound silence followed and then came panic.
"Now he’s killing civilians, too," Tyson gritted his teeth, his fists clenching in rage.
Blue’s mind raced. He had long known Coco was dangerous, but this... this was sheer madness. The longer that man stayed on the battlefield, the worse it became for everyone—even for the Rogues. But what could they do? There was no way to stop him. No one could defeat him.
Their city was doomed.
Inside homes and public spaces, people watched in terror. They had witnessed the piece of debris flying, followed by the screen cutting to static as the camera feed was lost.
Inside the news studio, anchors sat still, their voices stuck in their throats. They had just witnessed their colleagues die on live television.
Then—
A voice from the ground pierced the static. The cameras adjusted their focus. Dust from the explosion continued to settle, yet a figure appeared through the haze.
A silver-and-black-armored Ranger leaped from a distant rooftop, landing near the wreckage with a powerful thud that sent dust and wind swirling around him.
Gasps resonated throughout the battlefield as the citizens watching from their screens held their breath.
The reporters, who were once speechless, finally found their voices.
"It’s him... It’s General Edward Rogers."
The savior had arrived.
