Chapter 195: Chapter 195: Capture the Flag(Part 2)
"Hm? Sounds like a couple of the other teams have run into each other...alright, this is quite the golden opportunity, it’d be a waste not to take advantage of it," Muttered Celia, her ears perking up as crashes and the sound of weapons clashing echoed out.
She’d wandered close to the area where the Tilda and Siele were fighting the members of the First Squad, the commotion catching her attention.
She quietly made her way closer to that spot, to try and get a better idea of exactly where they were, before glancing around to make sure no one else was around.
"Alright, doesn’t look like there’s anyone else here, this is a great opportunity. Let’s see how many of them can survive this...thanks to this barrier, I have no reason to hold anything back. [Exploding Spear Scattershot]!"
A short distance away...
"Not too bad, you two are pretty strong," Smiled Tilda, swinging her scythe across.
"Don’t patronize us, you cocky brat," Responded Diar, before firing out a rapid light projectile at her, which she swiftly canceled out with a dark projectile.
"Aw, that’s an awfully mean thing to say to your little sister, you should be nicer," She smirked, before springing back as Dox coated the blade of his spear in dark energy and swung it across, firing out a slashing dark wave at her, which she easily evaded before countering with a piercing dark projectile, grazing his left bicep as he leapt across to his right.
"How is she the same rank as us?" Frowned Dox, tightening his grip on his spear.
"Yeah, maybe we should add a new rank to our ranking system to more accurately reflect-...hm?" Began Tilda, before trailing off as a dark purple glow fell over her, turning her gaze up before her eyes widened in alarm.
Dozens of explosive projectiles came shooting down towards her, she began to try and scramble out of the way but it was too late, the barrier teleporting her out before one of the projectiles could hit her, before a deafening symphony of consecutive explosions rang out one after the other, the area getting blown apart.
"Shit...!" Exclaimed Diar, right before he got teleported out too, while Dox weaved across the space as fast as he could, desperately trying to evade the explosions.
A short distance away...
"Oh, come on, you’ve gotta be kidding me," Sighed Siele in bemusement, staring up helplessly as countless explosive projectiles came raining down.
"Yeah, there’s no way we’re dodging all that. Well, I was about to lose anyway, so it doesn’t make much of a difference...but this must really suck for you," Responded Wein with a wry smile, before the two of them got teleported out as the projectiles peppered the area around them, blasting the ground apart as chunks of dirt and grass flew out all over the place, clouds of dust rising up.
Meanwhile...
"I...I managed to survive, somehow. Damn it, this couldn’t have gone worse for us. No doubt this was Vice-Captain Celia’s doing, she certainly packs a punch. I should get back to the Captain and let him know what happened," Muttered Dox, as he shakily got back onto his feet, wincing as twinges of pain erupted across his right forearm, before he began heading back to the First Squad’s starting point, unaware of the fact that he was being followed.
"Huh, looks like I missed one. But this could work out, he can lead me straight to his team’s flag...I think I only see three crystals left on his bracelet, which means there’s only two members of the First Squad’s team left besides him. One is obviously Rione. Alright, this is my chance to eliminate their entire team from the contest," Smirked Celia, as she quietly tailed Dox.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the playing field...
"Damn, two of the crystals shattered. Tilda and the Vice-Captain must have been defeated," Remarked Akila with a grimace.
"A-Already? That’s not good, i-it hasn’t been that long since we set out."
"Yeah, we’re going to need to be extra careful, we can’t afford to lose another."
"Akila, w-wait...I can sense two people fairly close-by. They’re about thirty meters away, in that direction," Kia informed Akila, grabbing his sleeve.
"I see, are they headed this way?" He asked her.
"N-No, they’re not."
"Good, that means they don’t know we’re here. Let’s sneak up on them and take them out," Suggested Akila, before the two of them crept forward as Kia nodded in response.
As they made their way towards the pair Kia had sensed, it wasn’t long before they came into sight, Akila’s eyes widening in alarm.
"Oh, i-it’s those two, Colt and Lexia, we-...," Began Kia.
"We need to leave, now! We can’t sneak up on these two, they probably already know we’re here-...crap!" Exclaimed Akila, a startled yell ringing out from Kia as a pair of blood tendrils snared their legs and pulled them off their feet.
Akila quickly phased out of the grasp of the tendril around his leg as a barrage of bone needles came shooting towards the two of them, but Kia had no way of breaking free, getting teleported out before one of the needles could pierce through her eye.
"Hey, there, Akila. You should really know better than to try and sneak up on us," Colt greeted him with a smirk.
"If I’d known it was you two, I wouldn’t have," Responded Akila with a grimace.
"Let’s see how much you’ve improved your Magic, shall we? It’s been quite a while since we last fought," Remarked Lexia, before unleashing a barrage of bone projectiles towards him.
Akila turned himself intangible and shot forward as he drew out his blades, the projectiles shooting through him as he raced towards Lexia.
"[Blood Mist]."
A crimson mist erupted out, obscuring Akila’s vision, before he sprang back as bone projectiles came shooting towards his feet, evading them before looking around with a grimace as the blood mist dissipated, no sign of the sadist duo anywhere in sight.
He then turned his gaze up in alarm as a massive barrage of blood and bone projectiles came raining down towards him, too many to evade.
"Damn it, they’re launching their attacks up to have them plummet down towards me, and since they’re using the trees as cover, I can’t tell which direction the attacks are coming from!" Akila thought to himself, forced to maintain his intangibility.
He did his best to try and evade as many of the attacks as possible, in an effort to avoid maintaining his intangibility constantly, several spots across his body starting to get increasingly sore.
Suddenly, several blood tendrils came zipping out of the bushes and whipped across at his torso with immense speed, too fast to dodge, forcing him to keep his torso intangible.
The tendrils were spread out and coming in from several directions, making it impossible to pinpoint where Colt was hiding.
Akila winced in pain as the toll of maintaining his intangibility began to steepen, gritting his teeth in frustration before running away, phasing through the trees and rushing off as fast as he could.
"Yeah, we should’ve figured he’d run. Should we go after him? We pushed him to the limits of his intangibility, a little longer and he won’t be able to use it for a bit," Pointed out Colt, as the pair emerged from their hiding spots.
"No, there’s no way we can catch up to him, since we can’t run through obstacles like he can. Let’s just go look for someone else to eliminate," Replied Lexia, after taking a moment to mull it over.
"Guess you’ve got a point. At least we managed to take out Kia, so that’s one less member in the Commander’s team."
"They’re three down, Akila’s bracelet only had three crystals left. So it’s him, the Commander and one other person. Meanwhile, our team is still fully intact," Remarked Lexia, as she held up her bracelet.
Meanwhile, a bit further away...
"Th-That...that was way too close. Those two are terrifying, who knows what kind of messed up torture they’d have put me through if they’d pushed me to the limit of my Phase Shift Magic? Alright, I should get back to the Commander and-...," Began Akila, before trailing off as he looked around at his surroundings in bemusement, "Wait...where am I? Crap, I was so focused on getting away from them that I wasn’t paying any attention to where I was going! Pretty sure I’m lost..."
Back at the Commander Squad’s starting point...
"H-How...how have three of our members been eliminated already?!" Exclaimed Jules incredulously, as she stared at her bracelet.
"Uh, calm down, Commander. There’s no sense in dwelling on it, we should put it behind us and focus on adjusting our plans," Spoke up Hart nervously.
"I-...no, you’re right. I need to calm down. Still, I was really hoping for a better start than this," She sighed in exasperation.
