Fu Yiming had a satisfied expression. He was a shrewd businessman and did not lack affection for his sole daughter. He decided to bring Jing Tong along precisely for that reason.

Jing Tong wouldn’t bear children, so there would naturally be no disputes over inheritance in the future.

Jing Tong clenched her teeth in secret fury but showed none of it on her face, feigning confusion and hurt instead. She silently lowered her head and gently grasped Fu Yiming’s arm.

Calling out with the same term he used for his deceased wife, Fu Yiming asked, “Uncle, what do you mean by this? Where has Jing Tong gone wrong to deserve such difficulty from you?”

“Her?” Huo Linong drew out his words, his scholarly and refined demeanor revealing no faults. But the words he spoke were far from as gentle and tolerant as before.

“She has not offended me, but she has offended my wife. I do not wish for my wife to be disgusted by someone even after death.”

Jing Tong’s face turned ashen, and her grip on Fu Yiming’s arm tightened unconsciously, enough to make him wince in pain. Fortunately, as a man, he didn’t cry out. He took it as his beloved woman being publicly insulted and unable to bear it, squeezing his own arm out of distress.
