Back To The 90s: The Resilient Daughter-In-Law -
Chapter 635 - Chapter 635 Chapter 635 Disappointing_1
Chapter 635: Chapter 635: Disappointing_1 Chapter 635: Chapter 635: Disappointing_1 She had long been disgusted with her father-in-law’s arrogance. So many wealthy people were offering him money for a piece of his art, yet he persistently refused. She watched him with wide eyes as she and her husband worked hard at their jobs to earn money. We’re living in a capitalist society now; who doesn’t gravitate towards money?
Who would ever complain about having too much money?
He’s selfish, only concerned about his own status and reputation, without considering the wellbeing of his family.
Now, his granddaughter has finally gained some fame and is set to attend the best art academy in Imperial City, yet he still wants to obstruct and ruin this opportunity.
How can there be such a ruthless grandfather in this world!
“I disagree. Although the Mi family has declined, we are still a respectable family. How can we do such underhanded things?” If it were not for his friends in Imperial City congratulating him over the phone, he wouldn’t have known his granddaughter was hiding such a big lie from him.
Previously, she clearly knew who the artist of “Young Maiden” was, yet she deliberately kept it a secret and even secretly attempted to prevent him from finding out. These acts already sparked fury in Mr. Mi’s heart, but since he himself was also tactless in his approach, he chose not to pursue it further.
All he felt was distress and guilt. Since returning from the state banquet, he had holed himself up at home, avoiding going anywhere.
What he never expected was that his granddaughter would secretly deceive him, declaring herself as the real artist of “Young Maiden” to the public. Furthermore, she was using this fake title to gain a special admission into the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts.
He would absolutely not allow such dishonest behavior to happen.
“Dad, your words are too harsh, how can this be considered underhanded? How could you say such things about your own granddaughter?” Li Guoying protested. “And besides! That painting was made famous by you! Without you, that piece of art would only be worth ten dollars and not even worth gifting.”
“Stop it!” His son, with an embarrassed face, interrupted his own wife, but this only earned him a harsh glare from her.
The upbringing he received allowed him to understand his father’s viewpoint and perspective very well, but his weakness was his fear of his wife. In the passing years, Li Guoying was the head of their household, and even though he held a position in a government office, he had no say at all.
Having been here for half a day, the only words he spoke were just that.
“Do you expect me to keep quiet?” Li Guoying yelled. “This is about Zhen Zhen’s future! Can I, as her mother, stand by and watch her own grandfather ruin her life?”
Mr. Mi turned ashen, pointing at Li Guoying he retorted, “As her grandfather, would I harm her? I’m doing this for her own good. A fake will always be a fake, and can never become real. It’s alright for her not to paint, but it is absolutely crucial for her to maintain good moral character.”
Mr. Mi never expected his granddaughter to do such a thing.
Mi Yuezhen was raised by him single-handedly. He pinned his hopes on her as she grew up to be an obedient and lovable child, but the more she grew up, the more selfish she became.
He was incredibly disappointed in her.
“Zhen Zhen, you tell me.” Mr. Mi looked towards Mi Yuezhen who was hiding behind her mother, “Am I doing this for your sake? Do you think it’s right to do this?”
Mi Yuezhen averted her gaze, unable to meet Mr. Mi’s eyes, and guiltily answered, “I… I’m just obeying my mother. I do whatever my mother tells me to do.”
“Humf!” Li Guoying raised her chin triumphantly, “Dad, you heard that, this matter is none of your business! Leave it to me to handle.” The opportunity to get into the First Art Academy was a golden one, as she had heard mention of waived tuition fees.
Not only that, her daughter becoming a significant artist wasn’t just a point of pride; it would also allow her to hold her head high within her social circles. It would show those nouveau riche who’s daughter was the capable one.
