Back To The 90s: The Resilient Daughter-In-Law -
Chapter 595 - Chapter 595 Chapter 595 Two Choices_1
Chapter 595: Chapter 595 Two Choices_1 Chapter 595: Chapter 595 Two Choices_1 The household registry was rarely used, typically stored in a box by their mother. For Zhuanzhuan, a careful and meticulous person like her, it would be easy to take — but how could she have left it out in the cornfield?
An unsettling thought was beginning to surface in Nan Fei’s mind. She knew it wasn’t right, but she couldn’t dismiss it.
Some thoughts were better left unformed, but once they took root, they grew rampant like wild grass in the spring.
Spreading on each gust of wind.
Nan Fei’s hands were shaking violently as she held the registry, recalling her tragic wedding day from her past life–the day her little brother died. Similarly, in this life, she and Huo Beijiang had just set a wedding date when her brother had an accident and fell into the water…
In her past life, she had always assumed her brother’s death was simply an accidental tragedy, caused by neglect due to the busyness of her wedding preparations. Only later, after she separated from Huo Beijiang, did he point out the anomalies, indicating a possible problem.
She had discovered hints of something sinister just before her death. But her investigations had always been directed outwards, at external suspects!
She never considered doubting her own family.
But… what if her investigations in her past life were misguided?
This chilling thought plunged her into a metaphorical icy cavern in the heat of summer, sweat trickling down her forehead.
She remembered describing her wedding as a nightmare to him once.
The beginning of all misfortunes.
So… should she still go through with this marriage? Did she still want this wedding?
When Huo Beijiang returned from buying cigarettes, he noticed that his wife seemed distressed. His sharp eyebrows curved as his gaze swiftly grazed over the household registry in Nan Fei’s trembling hands, his thoughts darting to Zhuanzhuan.
He sat down across from Nan Fei, reached out to take the registry from her hand, and took a cursory glace.
“It seems your little sister doesn’t like me as her brother-in-law!”
Previously, when he had called home to speak with Nan Fei, Zhuanzhuan refused to relay the message. But, he never told Nan Fei about this.
First, it was because they were sisters and he did not want to create needless conflict.
Second, her comment was not entirely false. There were indeed many things he didn’t do well enough.
“Why do you say that?”
“It’s obvious. Your sister is a person who never misses any details. Now, she’s lost the most important thing!”
Huo Beijiang raised an eyebrow and proposed, “We can make a bet. If we rush back to the city now, your sister will surely claim that the household registry was stolen when they got off the bus, or that her bag was snatched away, along with the registry.”
“Perhaps she just remembered it wrong?” Even to Nan Fei herself, her explanation sounded too feeble.
“Of course, that could be the reason.” Huo Beijiang took a cigarette out of the box, sniffed it lightly, and then tucked it behind his ear. “I’m beginning to notice, you three siblings are all quite different. Not ordinary.”
Ever since the incident with Sun Lu’s death, his opinion about Zhuanzhuan had changed.
His experience in dealing with high-risk assignments and dangerous individuals suggested that Zhuanzhuan’s role in the Sun Lu incident was not as simple as a witness. But unfortunately, even Ying Jiuming failed to find any solid evidence for this.
Jiang Yang didn’t understand what they were talking about and stared at them with bewildered eyes.
Nan Fei hastily tucked the household registry into her bag, her mind in total chaos.
“When you called Zhuanzhuan last night, what did she say?”
“She … initially disagreed, but then agreed. She did mention that it was very sudden, and she didn’t have the time to prepare …”
“Initially disagreed!” Huo Beijiang mulled over the words repeatedly, in the end he looked sternly at her, “Nan Fei, we have two choices now. One, we can get married right away in the county civil affairs bureau, without going to the city. Or, we could choose never to get married.”
PS: That’s it for now! I’ll make up for what I owe tomorrow! This lousy World Cup is ruining my writing mood, once I start watching, I can’t stop at all o(++)o
