Chapter 498: Chapter 498: Keep an Eye on the Men at Home
Chiang Qing’s spectacle at the cafeteria, given that everyone saw it – and most of them have families – was quickly gossiped about all over the compound once they went home and mentioned it to their wives.
They all said that Chiang Qing, for whatever reason, made a scene at Deputy Battalion Commander Dong and caused him great embarrassment.
Gossip, well, listening to it can be quite stress-relieving, especially gossip about Chiang Qing, which Cheng Su found even more amusing. And so, while cooking, she chatted idly with Chunhua and Guihua.
"I heard that Deputy Battalion Commander Dong wanted to pursue Doctor Chiang, but she scolded him, leaving him totally embarrassed," said Chunhua, who didn’t work during the day and heard the most rumors.
"That can’t be right, Deputy Battalion Commander Dong is married, don’t talk nonsense," Guiying said while peeling a carrot.
"Exactly, just listen and don’t add to it. If such groundless gossip gets back to Deputy Battalion Commander Dong, it might not bode well for your partner," Cheng Su cautioned.
Cheng Su was familiar with Deputy Battalion Commander Dong, and Qi Taiguo always spoke poorly of him; she too thought he didn’t seem generous, but rather somewhat gloomy.
If he took it personally and made things difficult for Liang Shurong, wouldn’t that be a terrible injustice?
But still, idle talk is just that. Someone like him might indeed take an interest in Chiang Qing, after all, her family background is remarkable, and she’s not bad looking either. As she told Old Qi, marrying into such a family could save thirty years of hard work.
Hearing the implication in Cheng Su’s words, Chunhua’s expression changed and her voice became quieter, "I’m just discussing this with you all; I don’t spread rumors outside. My Old Liang always tells me to stop gossiping with them about everything and anything."
"It’s good if you know this," Cheng Su said with a smile.
After being told that by Cheng Su, Chunhua felt somewhat listless and lost her interest in gossiping.
"Still, Doctor Chiang does look quite pretty. Dahe says a lot of the soldiers fancy her," Guiying interjected.
"Right, right, Old Liang said the same thing. He mentioned that if she asked for help, plenty of lads would be willing," Chunhua added. "Hey, Sister-in-law Qi, didn’t she visit your place the other day? What was that about?"
Leaving Deputy Battalion Commander Dong out of it, at least we can talk about Chiang Qing, right?
"Nothing much, she just came to recognize the door and pay a visit, and she left after a short while." Although Cheng Su was annoyed by her visit, it was true that she left quickly.
"Dressed all flirtatious like that, it would be strange if she didn’t attract others," Chunhua hummed.
"That’s why we should keep a close watch on our men at home, don’t let them get snatched away," Cheng Su joked with a giggle.
"The way Old Liang is, he wouldn’t even catch her eye. I’m actually quite relieved," said Chunhua confidently.
Guiying added, "The same goes for Dahe, he’s so simple-minded. And besides, he said he doesn’t like her."
Chunhua laughed at this. "Your Dahe only has eyes for you." Then, glancing at her belly, she remarked, "Hey, you’ve been married a year already, right? Any news?"
Guiying’s face turned red, and she touched her stomach without answering.
"Oh, are you expecting?" asked Chunhua. As an experienced woman, she could tell at a glance.
Guiying shyly nodded: "Just found out, a little over a month."
"Then you need to be very careful, don’t let Dahe come near you," Chunhua offered her advice as an elder.
Cheng Su said with a smile, "Guiying, congratulations to both of you."
"Thank you."
"What are you all so merry about, who are we congratulating?" Hualing walked in with a pot of food.
