Chapter 349: Chapter 349: The Villain Has Substance
Cheng Su was a bit surprised by Ning Ge’s sudden change of posture, but didn’t think much of it, simply mentioning the incident of Chiang Qing coming to her place today.
"A military doctor? Chiang Qing?" When Ning Ge heard that name, he tilted his head and thought for a moment, wondering where he had heard it before.
"You know her? Come on, tell me, what’s her background?" Cheng Su immediately became curious.
Military folks are all one family; Ning Ge was born into a cadre family, so he might actually know her. Knowing your enemy is key to winning every battle.
"I feel like I’ve heard this name somewhere. Wait a second!" Ning Ge picked up the phone, dialed a number, and as soon as the person on the other end answered, he said, "Sis, it’s me, your younger brother! No, nothing’s wrong, I just want to ask you, do you know Chiang Qing, a military doctor?"
Indeed, having connections makes things easier!
Cheng Su, propping up her chin, her eyes sparkling, waited impatiently until Ning Ge hung up the phone and then asked eagerly, "What did you find out? What’s her deal?"
Ning Ge whistled: "She does have quite the background. Her mom is a director in the Cultural Work Troupe, her maternal family is wealthy and influential, her uncle Lu Zhixin is a businessman. Her dad is a political commissar, just recently transferred to Yanjing to be a commander. As for Chiang Qing herself, she’s both academically and morally exemplary, and thanks to her parents’ connections, she chose to be a military doctor. Seems like she’s also pretty attractive?"
"More than just attractive, with curves in all the right places; she’s the type that would make any man look twice," Cheng Su said with undisguised jealousy, and deflatedly added, "According to what you say, this rival has quite the substance—smart, beautiful, and from a good family. She’s a princess-level competitor!"
With such strong credentials, this competitor is not to be underestimated. If you’re dealing with an unreliable man, he might be seduced in no time.
"Did you see them doing anything inappropriate? Or did she admit it herself?" Ning Ge asked.
Cheng Su shook her head, only mentioning that clothes were returned.
Ning Ge breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "So, there’s no actual evidence, huh? You’re making a mountain out of a molehill!"
Cheng Su rolled her eyes, retorting, "What would you men know about this? With things like this, you have to nip them in the bud, stifle the slightest hints and shoots in their cradle, so they don’t grow into towering trees. Otherwise, once it becomes a tree, it’ll be hard to chop down even if you want to."
Ning Ge was amused by her metaphor and laughed, commenting, "I thought you had a broader perspective, but at the end of the day, a woman is still a woman!"
Cheng Su snorted, "Women can be petty, so don’t provoke them!" Saying this, she raised her fist, baring her teeth and glaring.
Ning Ge burst into laughter, purposely teasing her, "What would you do if Qi Taiguo really did have a change of heart?"
"I’d kill him!" Cheng Su blurted out fiercely without hesitation.
"You wouldn’t!" Ning Ge tsk-tsk’d, shaking his head, "The Cheng Su I know is no shrew!"
Cheng Su laughed heartily, "You think so highly of me!" She paused to laugh, then added, "And you’re right, I really couldn’t handle being a shrew."
After a moment of thought, she continued, "If he really cheats, if his heart’s not in it anymore, if he doesn’t love me, then there’s only one word left—divorce!"
Ning Ge fell silent.
The atmosphere suddenly became somber.
"Let’s not talk about this anymore, let’s discuss work!" Cheng Su motioned for him to sit down, saying, "Our company is gradually maturing. In a few days, Xiao Ya will report for duty, and tomorrow an intern is coming; with that, our team will officially be established. Here’s what I’m thinking—should we set up a canteen in the factory..."
Ning Ge listened to her plans, occasionally adding his own suggestions.
As they talked, time passed, and they both concluded sharing recent actions with each other—a mere exchange of news, since, as co-shareholders, they needed to be aware of each other’s movements to plan for the company’s next steps.
