Awakening to a Special-Grade Explorer
Vol. 4 - Ch. 210 - Ursula Limey

Tenji was sitting on the dead centre of the battlefield out of exhaustion, leaning into the arms of Snow Demon who had been constantly by his side.

It should hardly have been five minutes since Tenji had summoned Hell Beasts when Flame Demon re-appeared by Tenji's side.

"Every single one has been eliminated, saving a single one."

Tenji's eyes rounded in astonishment when he heard they had already cleaned the monsters.

"The last has been captured as an offering for our king. How would you like to deal with it, Lord?"

"Huh......you did all that in five minutes?"

"P-Please excuse our tardiness! It's indeed a shame we took so long when the Lord has left everything to us. I will absolutely keep a tight leash on other hell beasts in their training next time!"

"Ah, calm down. I wasn't actually denouncing you though...you know, nevermind. I’m just glad you sorted it out."

"Your words are wasted on us!"

Tenji saw Flame Demon somehow take his words as criticism, he wanted to clear that but he was too tired to even correct him and ignored that for the time being. He laid limpid in Snow Demon arms and asked about the follow up situation.

"Is anyone injured?"

"Hmm~...no one is hurt."

"Great. The battle was spearheaded by President Limey, so have her deal the final---"

Tenji was relieved at the news and was about to give the settlement order when suddenly a flash of illuminance descended in front of him and Limey showed herself from it.

"What nonsense you're spouting, Boy? Haven't teachers taught you that stealing a kill is a breach of manners? The battle must come to an end by the hand of a person that has put more effort in this battle than anyone."

Startled, Tenji looked up and saw President Limey in front of him, sitting on a wheelchair. He heard the battle in the beginning had resulted in paralysis of her legs, and seeing her current situation, it turned out to be true.

At starting, Tenji wanted to refute, but then he saw the strong gleam in her eyes, one that made him realise her decision wasn't something a mere high schooler like him could bend. Reluctantly, he pursued his lips and didn't say anything.

"Fine. Flame Demon, bring that here."

"Hmm~...understood."

Flame Demon swiftly left once Tenji gave his command. In the meantime, President Limey scanned the spent appearance of Tenji and suddenly started spinning his word.

"Do you remember what I had asked you before the battle began?"

"Err...'What's my role' I guess? If not---"

"No, you're right. So, have you found the answer through this battle?"

Tenji didn't quite comprehend what President Limey was hinting at immediately.

But as far as it concerned him, he had found answers or many hints to the countless questions he had in this battle. Like what was his position at this point, how he should stride from here on and what was the meaning of explorer for him.

He didn't get the hint, but he apparently had the idea on how to answer her.

"Yes, a lot actually."

"Do you? It's good then. But...yeah, it wouldn't be good just to keep asking you. Let me tell you an untold secret about me."

Perhaps it was luck, the area was devoid of explorers except Tenji and Limey. There were Hell Beasts, but Limey seemed to be not minding their presence as she looked at Tenji with a serious gaze and started talking about herself.

"There are many in the world who call me Witch of Light, but this is a mere made-up thing. The true name of my calling is <Missionary of Light and Darkness>. Rare, isn't it?"

"Missionary of light and darkness...not magician? I was sure it was a calling from the mage or sorcerer system."

"Right? However, truth is indeed so, I am neither mage, nor sorcerer. Missionary, guide or similar is the core aspect of my calling. In the end---I was not even the protagonist of my life apparently."

† † ††

It was really a short while after the dungeons' descent into this world, when Ursula Limey awakened her calling.

It was a complete 180 turn of events than what she had expected from her life as a 41 year old woman. Then, shortly after she rose among prominence, and soon, everyone had started to call her <Witch of Light>, a zero-grade explorer.

The opposition from her friends and kins had been quite tremendous as a matter of fact in the beginning. Like, how could it be the correct direction for a 41 year old woman with kids? In a place where no one knows when or how death visits you, the safest option would be to just find a job and focus on that.

Limey understood where they were coming as well. But in contrast, her family---her husband and daughter were fully supportive of her. So, Limey decided to take on the path of explorer and take upon herself to be the beacon, for both her family and the world that had started to be encroached by chaos.

The only hurdle for her had really been to take the first step, to start the journey of an explorer, and once she was on it, it was a blazing fast rise for her, leaving behind all the explorers to reach an unreachable height.

At the beginning, she craved for all the knowledge she could find and wished to impart them to the world and run around dungeons non-stop. It was her and her effort which built the foundation for others in the first dungeon era.

However, it didn't take long for her body to reach its limit as well.

At the end of the day, everything still boiled down her age. It was impossible for her to continue such exhaustive work for long either way, not to say it even comes with life-threatening dangers. Besides, she took barely 10 years to reach the pinnacle of explorer.

It was during then she received an offer, that if she was interested in serving as the principal of Mallorca. Similarly, Limey also finally prepared herself to face her calling.

It had been something that was bugging her ever since the day she receives her calling. A person with calling excelled in magic would definitely have '~magician' in the name of their calling. Leon Hyakuse, a fellow zero-grade explorer, was the example with his 'Helix Magician' calling. Perhaps it was just some special exception for a zero-grade calling, she thought. But she couldn't bring herself to accept it fully in the end.

The calling of Ursula Limey was <Missionary of Light and Darkness> all along.

She hated this calling to her guts. For her, it was like god was pulling the string on her life purposely.

Calling was akin to their life's role.

Like, suppose one wanted to be a football player, and even become one, then that person's job, footballer, be like his calling. Or like a fashionista starting their brand etc. In the similar vein, the calling granted by dungeons to people was similar to the role assigned to them in their life.

She had always believed herself to be the holder of her fate.

In her young age, she had been an athletic person, it was like a norm for her to score first rank in her game. She was a bit average in study as well, but when needed push, she could also put more effort to bring her score up too. As she grew older, she opted for college and later married her husband, a doctor by profession. She had been living her life all according to her will.

Yet, she ended up receiving a calling whose role was to 'preach/guide.'

It was like the world was mocking her, that she even thought of herself as the protagonist in her life, which she wasn't. So she couldn't bring herself to directly tackle her calling while active in dungeons.

However her thoughts took a u turn when she retired and became the principal of a school that cultivated future generations of explorers.

The first question for her was, "To whom and what was she needed to tell?"

She wished someone could just magically give her the answer to that doubt, alas reality wasn’t so convenient. However, as she continued to look after Mallorca, she actually managed to meet multiple talented individuals that would make for extraordinary explorers. Those students were truly graced with talents, and true enough to her intuition, they later become explorers, showing promising results.

But, while they were talented, they weren't the said person she was apparently waiting for. Her intuition told her so.

But as they say, changes often come unannounced. Similarly, the turning point for her came out of the blue.

The first time she experienced an incomprehensible feeling was when she met a Japanese student, Fuyuki Kuro, who had come to Mallorca to enrol here. Something about him was different from other students, something that gave her a feeling of closeness. At the same time, she faintly felt a faint reaction in her light ability.

But she had no concrete proof to base her feelings on that, and so, she decided to simply take it easy and rather pay more attention to him than other students. It had been around one and a half years since then when she finally got solid evidence.

One sudden day, she happened to meet a young boy named Tenji Amagi in her favourite pasta shop.

A light and darkness magic user she was, this time the darkness aspect of her magic showed an intense reaction.

No, it wasn't something unpleasant however. If anything, she finally understood the answer about her calling, the one she should guide.

It was then Ursula Limey decided to devote her remaining short lifespan for one cause. She decided to wager everything on the young Tenji, someone she just happened to meet by chance.

She didn't know whether that was the correct choice, or she was fumbling. But she wasn't deterred nonetheless, it's alright to be wrong. After all, it was her, Ursula Limey, life and no one else.
