Awakening to a Special-Grade Explorer -
Vol. 4 - Ch. 152 - The Unexpected
——75th floor.
A vast blue expanse of blue spread as far as eyes could, spotless, without a single speck of cloud staining this scenery.
Bird's singing, insect’s chirping or frogs' choruses, however, were missing from this world without a hint of living. All that could be heard in this world was just the gentle, spring breeze grazing and rustling the levee of vibrant green trees.
It was apparent there was not a single life form here.
Arriving here via the floor teleporter, Chisato, Tenji and Fuyuki slowly opened their eyes. Though the dazzling sunlight falling down had filled their vision with nothing but light, it took a bit before they could properly register the scenery in their view.
They're surprised—not by the scenery of the new floor, but something even more unexpected. Wherever they shifted their gaze, all they caught was the sight of strange things—the multitude of beige-colored tents.
If that's not enough, the tents had been meticulously sorted in their respective sections, and the rows stretched so far the trio couldn't even see the end of them. While there were varieties of tents—like tarp-only tents without walls, small-solo tent, big family-size military tent etc—they all were sorted out in their own section.
A look and anyone could see something strange was cooking here. It was like they're preparing to deal with ‘something.’
Tenji had no way of knowing what that ‘something’ could ever be on the highest floor ever reached. But that temporary gathering of sort, as if they were out for someone's blood, were pointing out to some ominous thing.
Tenji moved his gaze from the tent and focused on the ‘people’ gathered.
The crowd of professional explorers, of various nationalities, were busy moving from here and there to prepare for the incoming battle, stitching together the diverse tent section together.
He could make out some of the students amidst the rows of professional explorers who appeared just as ignorant of the situation as he was. In fact, he could even see the endless parade of explorers whom he at least had seen once on TV. He was completely stunned, noticing everyone here had some sort of fame, causing him to alternate his gaze like a busy bee.
For example, Russia's terrifying guild ‘Pravirna’ or China's third strongest guild ‘The Four River and Fire Emperor’-------the professional explorers of either group were all class in bloodlust, waiting for something.
(So, like…this is supposed to be humanity's highest floor ever reached, right? Why in the world are so many famous explorers here as if just waiting for the cue to begin a war—)
Until now, Tenji heard only a handful of people could ever hope to reach this far. In fact, even the intel available to students and Mallorca’s people alike made it clear the people who managed to reach this far could be counted on one hand. Well, yeah, they hadn't specified ‘exactly how many’ or their ‘names’ as well. Still, the sight before him definitely goes above ‘what they could count on one hand.’
‘It has to be that the materials provided didn't tell the whole truth,’ Tenji became aware of the discrepancy that lies in those details.
Either way, something was going on that couldn't be explained by just a few people. While waiting for something to begin, they were carrying the materials from here and here, sharpening their weapons, training or adjusting their spirit. He could even hear them having a strategy meeting, which further added to this strained atmosphere. It was really a question whether they're doing all that to launch a huge raid or to start a war.
While Chisato and Fuyuki were confused at the discrepancy of information they had heard, Tenji drew in sharp breath feeling the palpable tension and intimidating pressure.
And then, as if on cue, a certain explorer walked past their gaze, who had been restlessly looking around like a tourist does when visiting a new place.
Sporting black hair, pretty eyes that were a mix of black and brown and shining white implanted teeths, the said explorer was a 180cm tall male with quite ripped muscles. The black knee-length mantle, one of the particular points about the man, was embroidered with the war carriage and spear—the symbol of one of Japan's top guilds, the ‘Chariot.’
It was the official attire of Chariot. Hardly there would be any Japanese who were unaware of what that costume signifies.
‘Ah,’ A gasp leaked out of Tenji’s lips unwittingly as he shouted, ‘Fukuyama-san!?”
