Chapter 157: War Begins
After that, Leo returned to his daughter and the others.
"Father, what happened? Just a few minutes ago, there was thunder and lightning," Jasmin asked in surprise.
Rain and lightning were extremely rare in the central plains, especially in the area known as the Erin Free Zone. That was why she was so surprised.
"It was the work of the commander of that elf army. He told me that if I don't hand over the Dark Elf within four hours, there'll be war."
"Four hours? That's way too short!" Andreas suddenly shouted.
"So what do we do now?" Ilaris asked fearfully. She was truly scared that despite all their words, they might suddenly decide to hand her over.
She had spent her entire life imprisoned in the mountains and didn't want to be locked up again by the elves. All she wanted was freedom.
"Don't worry. I contacted the UFG and asked them to send additional reinforcements," Leo said, which calmed them down a little.
Well, all of them except Daniel.
'My lord, I feel like that man is lying,' Nariok's voice echoed in Daniel's mind.
'You feel it too? I'm pretty sure,' Daniel frowned.
He didn't know why, but he had a bad feeling about this man and felt like he was just lying.
"I suggest you get some rest. I doubt the elves can break the defensive array, but it's better to be ready just in case."
"We understand, Mr. Leo," the three of them nodded, and after saying goodbye, they headed to Daniel's room in the mansion.
"Father, what are you going to do with them?" After they left, Jasmin's expression turned mocking and indifferent.
"The Lords told me to keep an eye on them for now until the reinforcements arrive. They probably want to interrogate them."
"But one of them is like us—otherworldly. Are you sure nothing will go wrong?" Jasmin asked with a bit of doubt.
"No need to worry. There are ways to forcibly keep an otherworldly inside the Celestial Domain for as long as you want."
"We just have to make sure whether he's a member of one of those powerful guilds or not," Leo replied.
"So, what do you think of them?"
"Well, that Lionheart guy is kinda dumb and naïve, the Dark Elf girl is really innocent and simple, and as for Alex—he doesn't talk much and gives off a mysterious vibe. I don't know why, but I feel a sense of danger from him."
"Danger? From a rank C? That's ridiculous," Leo said in disbelief, looking at his daughter.
"I know…"
Meanwhile, inside the guest room, Andreas and Ilaris were staring at Daniel. An odd silence had taken over the place.
"What should we do?" Andreas was the first to speak and break the silence.
Daniel didn't say anything. He pulled out an Escape Talisman from his inventory and showed it to them.
"This…?" Ilaris looked at it with surprise in her eyes, though she knew what a talisman was.
"This is a rank A escape talisman. We can use it to escape from here safely," Daniel explained.
"Then what are we waiting for? Shouldn't we use it right now?" Andreas immediately said.
"Are you stupid? A rank A array is currently sealing the city. On top of that, the elves seem to be using some kind of magic to seal the area too. That means there are two layers of sealing."
"This is just a rank A talisman. I'm not sure it'll even work. And even if it does, the moment we activate it, it'll release a massive burst of energy, and we don't know how far it'll throw us from here."
"You're right… So what's the plan?" Andreas sighed.
"We wait until the elves attack in four hours. We'll use the chaos and activate the talismans. If they work and we manage to escape, great. But even if it fails and just releases energy, no one will notice us because of the elf attack," Daniel explained.
Andreas and Ilaris nodded. Daniel's logic made sense and they had no reason to argue.
"So what do we do until then?" Ilaris asked.
"It's better if we don't separate. Stay here, and if something happens, I can protect you."
They nodded and each sat on a bed, starting to chat—mostly about Daniel's world. They were curious about where he came from and asked him to explain as much as he could.
Meanwhile, Leo and Jasmin were getting ready for battle. The latter was a rank B and could be very helpful.
It didn't take long for the four hours to pass quietly—until thunderous lightning suddenly filled the sky.
"Four hours are up, lowly humans. Hand over the Dark Elf or we'll reduce this place to ashes," the same elf who had spoken with Leo shouted across the Free Zone.
Immediately, Jasmin and Leo appeared in the sky to face him.
"Hmph, you better leave now. We're not handing over the Dark Elf, and you're not getting to the mountain," Leo growled coldly.
He was sure that even if he gave them the Dark Elf, the elves would find another excuse to attack. He was convinced their real goal was the mountain.
So why would they leave just because they got the Dark Elf?
"You asked for it," the elf muttered coldly and raised his wooden spear.
Suddenly, dozens of lightning bolts appeared in the sky and charged at Leo. Behind them, the elf army began their attack.
But neither the lightning nor the elves' attacks reached Leo and Jasmin—the array blocked them all.
"What…? How is that possible!" Still, Leo noticed something, and fear flashed in his eyes.
"What, scared? Pathetic foreigner. Let me show you the power of the elves."
"No way! Your attacks shouldn't be able to shake the array!" Leo roared.
Right then, he realized something terrifying—when the lightning bolts struck the array, its power drastically weakened.
At this rate, just three or four more attacks would be enough to completely break the array.
And the worst part was—the reinforcements would arrive in one more hour!
