Awakening of the Scheming Wife
Chapter 111: Similarities? Yes!

Chapter 111: Similarities? Yes!

Helena thought of who he was talking about for a few seconds before asking in doubt, "You mean Brother Merlin?"

"Yes. I think that’s the name you said when you introduced him." Hubert nodded.

Vernon and Helena didn’t think much of it. They were just wondering why Hubert was too excited to remember merlin.

So, they asked him, "You remembered where you saw Brother Merlin? Where?"

"I can’t say for sure. But let me show you something first." Hubert pursed his lips, containing his emotions. He searched for his phone in his pocket. He then looked through his phone for something and gave it to Helena so she could look at it.

Helena frowned and looked at it. There was an image of an old woman in it. Seeing her frown as she was looking at the screen, Vernon inched closer to her and huddled to look at the screen as well.

"Who is she?" Vernon asked. He did not recognize the old man.

"Is she..." Helena’s finger slightly trembled as she pointed it at the screen. She couldn’t bring herself to finish the sentence.

"Looks like you recognized her?" Hubert asked her but it sounded more like a confirmed statement.

"But that’s just a guess. Is she really who I think she is?" Helena couldn’t be sure because she had never met the woman face to face before.

Hubert sighed and nodded, "yes."

"Who is she?" Vernon felt left out from the conversation. He was right there when they were talking, but why couldn’t he understand what they were talking about?

"She is Helena’s grandmother," Hubert answered him while looking at Helena. He was confirming Helena’s doubt more clearly as well.

Vernon looked at Helena and then at hubert, "You mean, her maternal grandmother?"

Vernon had seen Helena’s paternal grandmother before. He even attended her funeral several years ago.

Hubert nodded while Helena answered, "yes."

Vernon looked at the picture once again and then looked back at Hubert, "Why are you showing this picture now, Uncle Hubert?"

Weren’t they talking about where he met Merlin before?

"Look carefully at the picture," Hubert used his hands to guide them towards the phone screen once again.

Vernon looked at the phone while Helena had never left her eyes off it since the moment they fell on it.

They looked at the picture for a long time without speaking a word.

"Did you notice anything?" Hubert asked.

Helena blinked her eyes.

Vernon on the other hand nodded while his lips were pursed. "Her features and a few of Brother Merlin’s features look similar. Am I right?"

Helena looked at him and blinked her eyes. She did not notice that before. It could be because she was too emotional when she saw her mother’s mother. It reminded her of her mother. So she did not notice anything from the picture.

Vernon wasn’t as emotional as Helena. So he noticed these little details clearly.

Hubert nodded to his question, "You saw that as well, right? I have never met Merlin before. But I met your grandmother many times before. I actually met her when she was younger than now. So, her features from then and Merlin’s features now look more similar than in this picture. That was why I thought that I might have met him before."

The picture he showed them was Helena’s grandmother’s present picture. But Hubert had met her when he and Helena’s mother were still in school and were young.

"You mean..." Helena had a thought of what he wanted to say but she did not dare to confirm it.

Hubert pursed his lips as well. Like Helena, he did not dare to speak recklessly either.

Guessing is easy. But the words once spoken could never be taken back. If what he thought and said out loud were wrong, then the hope those words would give had the power to crush people.

He did not dare to crush the young Helena’s heart like her mother’s heart was crushed multiple times before.

Vernon spoke directly, "Actually, I too thought that there were a few similarities between Brother Merlin and Helena before. At that time, I did not think too much about it. But now with your grandmother’s picture, I understand. I think we should take the chance and check. We wouldn’t lose even if he wasn’t related anyway. Right?"

He smiled and squeezed Helena’s hand tightly, giving her the strength she very much needed.

Helena looked at him and blinked her eyes. A couple of tears slipped from her lower lashes.

With the words he said, she smiled back and nodded, "Mmn."

Hubert saw the young couple and couldn’t help but smile. He was happy that his good friend’s daughter now had a husband who could take care of her. He could give her the strength she needed.

"Yes. Vernon is right. Let’s check. Even if he isn’t your brother, nothing should really change, right?" Hubert went along with Vernon’s words and said.

Helena blinked her eyes once again to clear them from all the tears.

She then pursed her lips, "You are right but..."

"What is it?" Vernon asked as he did not understand why Helena was hesitating too much.

He knows how much she wanted to fulfill her mother’s last wish. Now that the chance is right in front of them, they should hurry and check.

If it was some random stranger, Helena might actually go and ask for his DNA to check. But she became close to Merlin. She couldn’t bring herself to ask him for his dna.

She took a deep breath and said, "Brother Merlin said that his parents are dead. Not when he was a child but recently. A few months back. I don’t think he would give us his DNA just because we asked him, right? Also, it would be too weird to ask him out of the blue, right?"

Vernon looked at her. He sighed and suggested, "Fine. let’s not ask him directly. Let’s just steal his DNA to check it. Is that okay?"
