Chapter 32: Pain Part 2

Chapter 32: Pain Part 2

With the man gone, Neo had time to plan his next move.

It helped that he was the only person in the building.

There was nothing important here aside from disposing of corpses, which explained the lack of security.

"So much blood," he muttered, touching his chin. "If they find a body here tomorrow, it’ll cause a commotion."

The last thing he needed was for the people running this place to launch an investigation.

He exhaled. "I should hide all traces. Make them think they just disappeared."

Leaving a mess behind would only bring trouble. He needed to clean up—at least enough to delay suspicion.

Stepping into the hallway, he scanned his surroundings.

Near the stairwell, a janitor’s closet caught his eye. He pulled the door open.

Shelves lined the walls, stocked with cleaning supplies—bleach, rags, a mop resting against the corner.

As he reached for it, something caught his eye. A folded black bag sat on the bottom shelf, half-hidden behind old towels.

’A body bag.’

A smirk tugged at his lips.

Snatching the bag and cleaning supplies, he made his way back to the office.

Unzipping the bag, he spread it open and rolled the corpse inside. Blood smeared the floor in the process, but this would at least contain the mess.

Once the body was secured, he zipped it shut and dragged it outside.

The night air was still, broken only by the faint rustling of trees.

Quickly, he headed straight for the same container he used before.

Prying the lid open, he peered inside. Murky liquid churned, discolored and thick.

Scraps of clothing floated near the surface, tangled with fragments of bone and strands of hair.

Neo frowned. "Tch. Guess some parts take longer."

Grabbing a metal rod, he stirred the sludge, watching the remains sink.

The sight didn’t bother him. These people weren’t victims—they were parasites. If given a hundred chances, he’d kill them a hundred and one times, just to be sure.

He lifted the body bag and shoved it inside.

The thick liquid bubbled as the fabric sank. Within seconds, the acid began eating through the material like paper.

He waited, watching the bag disappear beneath the surface before sealing the lid.

Once he was done, Neo returned to the office.

Dark stains marred the floor, creeping into the cracks between the tiles.

He set the supplies down and grabbed a rag, soaking it in bleach before kneeling to scrub.

The blood had dried in some spots, making it harder to remove. He pressed harder, dragging the cloth in strokes until the stains began to fade.

His gaze turned to the desk, where faint splatters dotted the surface. He wiped it clean, then moved to the walls, making sure no trace remained.

Once the floor was spotless and the room smelled of bleach, he stepped back. .

Forensic tools could still uncover what had happened here, but that didn’t matter if no one thought to check.

As long as he left nothing obvious, suspicion would be delayed.

He rinsed the mop, wrung it out, and put everything back in the janitor’s closet.

The next thing on his agenda was erasing all the footage.

Fortunately, he was a bit techie, so it didn’t take long to wipe everything clean.

Just to be safe, he searched for the physical drives as well. After digging through the security room, he found them tucked under the desk.

He grabbed them and stepped outside to put them all in the same acid container.

’Now I just need to throw this out,’

His eyes landed on a pallet jack—a smaller, manual version of a forklift that only needed to be pushed.

It took some effort, but once the container was properly disposed of, everything was set.

’That was tiring. I need some food.’ He wiped his forehead and headed to the pantry.

A refrigerator stood in the corner, stocked with ready-to-eat meals.

CLICK!

He opened it and scanned the options—sandwiches, rice dishes, and various packed meals.

Settling on the spicy curry, he took it out and heated it in the microwave.

As the food warmed, the rich aroma filled the pantry, masking the lingering scent of bleach on his hands.

Resting against the counter, he drummed his fingers on the surface, waiting.

CLING!

Food was ready. He took it out, sat at the table, and lifted the spoon to his mouth for the first bite.

The rich spices coated his tongue, but each bite felt heavier than the last.

"BUAHHH!" He lurched forward, retching onto the floor.

All along, he kept it bottled up. Now that his body finally relaxed, exhaustion hit him hard.

’No, I can’t act weak now...’ He wiped his mouth and forced himself to eat.

What he did was just the beginning. If he wanted to survive in this place, he had to be even more ruthless.

There was no room for hesitation.

’I can make it. I just need to use my powers more efficiently.’

Knowing that the system rewarded him with strength for completing missions, his chances of survival just increased.

This lifted his mood slightly, but it didn’t last.

A sudden noise outside caught his attention

His grip on the spoon tightened. He stood abruptly, rushing to the window. Peering through the glass, his stomach dropped.

Mercenaries. Armed with rifles started exiting a truck.

[DING!]

[Mission: Escape]

"You don’t have to tell me!" Neo clicked his tongue in irritation and moved immediately towards the back door.

The sound of boots crunching against gravel outside sent a jolt of urgency through him.

’If only I had a gun..’

Reaching the exit, he pressed his ear against the door, listening.

No sounds nearby—at least not yet.

He took a deep breath, steadied his nerves, and pushed it open just enough to slip through.

Once he felt he was far enough from the mercenaries, he broke into a sprint into the forest.

Branches scraped against his arms as he weaved through the trees.

’Fuck. I’m really unlucky tonight!’
