Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 36: Situationship.
Chapter 36: Situationship.
"Why...?" Avery whispered. "Why do you talk like this is something you have experienced before?"
"Maybe I have, maybe I haven’t...Thorne might have an answer," he gave a cryptic reply, changing the topic immediately, "Any way, if you decide to face everyone of them at the same time, it won’t end well. What if you end up rekindling your feelings for Brian or fall in love with someone else from that family?"
"Is this you trying to mock me for loving Brian once upon a time?"
Archie shrugged nonchalantly.
"If you see it as mockery, then I’ll suggest you don’t worry about it. My question now is what’s your next line of action?" he asked.
Avery avoided his eyes while nibbling her lips out of anxiety. She reversed the question, "Uhm...you seem to have a lot of knowledge in that aspect. What would you advise that I do?"
"What would I advise?" Archie chuckled, disbelief evident in his eyes. "Ava, this is your revenge to take and not mine. It is not about how much your enemies suffer at the end of all these, but how satisfied you are. Now, where would you like to start?"
"Valentina? I saw her today so—"
"You don’t have to explain. Just pick one and think of the best way to bring them down," he interrupted.
"Okay. I—I might need your help," she stuttered.
Shaking his head slowly like a teacher who was tired of explaining the same thing over and over again, he folded his arms across his chest and wore a stern expression.
"No, you don’t. Not this soon," he stated. "You don’t need to have me behind you before you can instill terror and fear in them. You are more than capable of that, aren’t you?"
"I think so. I know what every single one of them fears the most so i think—No, I know I can do this," Avery replied, nodding firmly as if to reassure herself. She looked up at Archie, spotting the proud smile that flitted across his face before disappearing immediately. He was... She had no idea how to describe him now. Motivating? Yeah, he did motivate her and now her mind seemed darker than earlier. Not that she minded though. She wanted to completely shed off her innocence so she would have nothing to hold her back while conquering the fake McCallum’s world.
"Well... whatever the bitch did to you today, I guess it did have one advantage," Archie spoke up.
"What advantage?"
He gestured at the dogs sitting beside her legs and responded, "You don’t fear my brothers anymore."
Avery stiffened, slowly lowering her eyes to stare at the dogs. They also had their necks strained, looking up at her with eyes that looked innocent. Examining them from such close range, they didn’t seem all that scary again. But that did not mean she was ready to cuddle with them so she stepped back, away from them.
"Still, can you ask them not to come rushing at me next time? I think I’ll be able to manage better that way," she said.
"You think I care?"
"I think I should go up to my room now. I need to take a shower and think," Avery pursed her lips. He was still Archibald Donovan after all, the unfeeling and completely heartless man. Motivating her few seconds ago was probably just to initiate her into darkness, a kingdom where he seemed to rule over.
And she? She was ready to take her place as one of his minions if it meant she could completely ruin the present McCallums.

"You are back early. Good thing I cooked."
Jodi ignored the words, bypassing the speaker as if she had no idea someone was there. She walked past the set table without sparing it a glance and went straight into the kitchen.
"You don’t have to cook, Jo. You saw I already set the table, didn’t you?"
Again, she ignored him and pulled open the drawers hanging above her head. She scanned through it, trying to decide what kind of noodles she wanted to cook. Behind her, Neil stood at the entrance of the kitchen with his hands folded across his chest, patiently watching her.
"You are eating noodles for the 63rd time this month. Do you even feel—"
Jodi interjected without turning to look at him, "What I eat is none of your business, Neil. Rest assured, I won’t trouble you to accompany me to the hospital if I end up falling sick."
"This is not about you troubling me. Our relationship is one year old today; don’t you think we should make it special? At least eat something better than you have been eating."
"Our situationship, Neil," she corrected. "Besides, why commit bad memories to date? I bet you also remember the day you got your first rejection."
"Jodi, you are my girlfriend and meeting you wasn’t a bad memory. For you, I guess but definitely not for me," Neil stated.
Jodi went back to ignoring him; silence being her answer whenever she didn’t have a reply for him.
He proceeded, "Sure, we haven’t been spending enough time together but that’s because I am busy and you are also busy. If you need me to help with anything, have I ever rejected you?"
Shutting the drawers with a loud bang, Jodi yelled, "That’s it! Don’t make this seem real when it isn’t. You will only make me think you are trying to tie me down."
"But—"
"No buts. Go have your meal while I enjoy mine. Happy one year anniversary."
"I get it now," Neil stated, to see her raise her brows up in question. Pointing at the table, he continued, "I will leave. But Jo, do not let the time I put into cooking that go to waste."
Without waiting for her to react, he turned and began to walk towards the door leading out of the apartment. But as soon as he pulled open the door, Jodi slammed it shut, a defiant glare in her eyes as she stepped between him and the door.
"That’s what you do each and every time, Neil! Your attempt at guilt tripping me is annoying," she hissed in annoyance.
"What if that’s the only way to get you to talk to me? To stop me from leaving like you just did."
"What are you saying?"
"If that’s the only way, Jo, then I will gladly continue."
