Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 182: Private Time.
Chapter 182: Private Time.
Archie’s voice pulled Avery back to the present. "So, does it ring a bell? A Corp, for Archibald’s... A² Corp, for...?"
Avery’s jaw dropped.
The breath left her lungs in a rush.
A².
Not just A anymore.
Archibald and—
Her lips parted, but no sound came out, the realization hitting her like a physical blow.
Archie continued to watch her, his expression unreadable. The silence between them stretched, thick with the weight of what she was only now beginning to understand.
Avery’s voice was barely a whisper when she finally spoke.
"...the second A stands for... Avery?"
He didn’t reply.
He didn’t need to.
The truth was written in the way his eyes darkened, in the tension that coiled through his body as he waited for her to put the rest together.
Avery’s hands trembled slightly. If the company had been renamed so her name could be added... then why the hell couldn’t she remember it?
"We got married,"Archie spoke up. "It was only rightful to split shares and everything else I had. Especially since you specifically demanded that the ownership of the corporation be shared between us."
Avery’s expression blanched.
"I did?!" she exclaimed, disbelief evident in her tone.
He didn’t bother answering the question, as the answer was already written all over his face.
"What do you think?" he said instead.

Three Years Ago...
Archie stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of his office, staring out at the city lights below when his phone rang. He picked it, taking note of how the time was almost midnight, before speaking into the phone, "What’s wrong?"
"We’re waiting," Arthur’s voice came through, a hint of worry underlying his tone.
"Was waiting for your call," Archie replied as he walked back to his desk. He began gathering his things as he spoke. "I’ll be on my way now. Is there any gift you think Ava would like? I can pick it up on the way."
"A gift?" Arthur’s laughter had a hint of disbelief in it. "You don’t have to. I’m sure no birthday gift will make you two stop hating each other."
A small smile tugged at Archie’s lips at his friend’s words, but his tone remained steady. "I’ll be there soon. Which restaurant?"
"We haven’t decided yet." Arthur hesitated. "We’re at the franchise near A Corp right now, but Avery isn’t picking up her phone. We’ll wait for her to answer before finalizing the location."
Archie’s grip tightened on the phone. "Not picking up?" Even before he could get confirmation, he pulled out his drawers, retrieving a second phone that he hurriedly typed Avery’s number into.
He watched the phone ring unanswered while Arthur’s voice went on in the background of his mind, "Yeah. It seems she went somewhere with her boyfriend, so I don’t know if I should be worried or they need privacy or—"
Before his friend could conclude his words, Archie ended the call abruptly, his hand gripping the edge of his desk so hard his knuckles turned white. He dropped into his chair, shutting his eyes tight and removing his glasses. He massaged his forehead, and when he opened his eyes again, something dark flickered in them.
"Fucking privacy, my foot."
He pulled out his laptop, fingers flying over the keys as he inputted her number and a small smirk curled his lips when her location appeared on the screen.
Without hesitation, he leaned forward to pick up the telephone on the office door.
"Neil? Come on in."
The door opened moments later, and Neil sauntered in.
"Are we ready to go—"
Archie cut him off mid-sentence, turning the laptop toward him. "Check what bar this is and get me access to their live CCTV footage."
Neil frowned. "And what would you need it for?"
Archie’s voice was ice as he replied, "None of your business. I need it in three minutes max."
His assistant muttered under his breath, assessing how serious the situation was before leaving to do as asked.
For the next few minutes, Archie tapped impatiently on his desk, not holding back from dialing her number over and over again. Each unanswered call made the air around him grow heavier.
When Neil finally walked back through the door, he–Archie– was out of his seat in an instant, snatching the laptop back. "Is it done?"
A nod. "Yeah, I sent you the link."
Archie clicked it immediately, eyes scanning the live footage. He adjusted his glasses, his search pausing, when he spotted Avery in a secluded corner of the bar, leaning against the counter.
His jaw clenched as he searched the screen for Brian, but the boyfriend was nowhere in sight. Had the fucker left her there alone?
Or had they not gone together in the first place?
Leaving the laptop open, he strode out of his office, ignoring Neil’s calls after him.
Minutes later, he was in the garage, heading straight for his car. The driver barely had time to step out before Archie yanked the keys from his hand. "Clock out for the night."
He got into the driver’s seat and peeled out of the garage. Only when he was on the highway did he realize he should have found a way to keep watching the footage while driving. In case she decided to leave the bar before he got there, or something else happened.
Either way, he would hate for it to happen so he called Neil. "Send the link to my phone."
Within seconds, his phone pinged with the notification. He wasted no time in opening the link, and the same live feed appeared. His eyes darted to the corner where Avery was—and the scene unfolding around her, prompting a low, dangerous murmur to escape his lips. "So hungry for death, aren’t y’all?"
His foot pressed harder on the gas.
The journey didn’t take him more than three minutes, especially as he was driving in full speed.
Archie slammed the car door shut behind himself, the sound swallowed by the pounding bass leaking from the club’s entrance. Minutes later, after slipping a wad of cash into the bouncer’s hand, he pushed through the crowded doors, his jaw clenching as the wall of noise and heat hit him.
Fuck.
