Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 145: Whore
Chapter 145: Whore
"Oh... I do," Valentina stifled a chuckle. "And rest assured, I’m not judging you. You are doing everything you can to survive and succeed, and that? It’s already a great quality on its own."
"Well, thanks for not judging," Avery’s somehow excited voice came. "I have to get ready now. Thanks for calling."
"Oh no! I should be thanking you instead, for accepting my apologies. See you later, Av—"
The call disconnected with a beep sound, accompanied by Valentina’s hiss as she slammed her hand on the table.
"Proud bitch. She couldn’t even say bye and wait for me to hang up first," she said, eyeing the phone. "Well, I won’t blame her. I’m the stupid one for going to apologize in the first place."
"You are not the stupid one. We got what we wanted from the call anyways," Brian stated. When she raised her brows in question, he added, "We got to guage her reaction."
Valentina sat up. "Yeah, that’s true. Did you hear what she said? She has her own way to land a role with her beauty and that shit about incentive. She’s a whore! Who knows if she slept with Leroy to get the present role she’s on?"
Brian’s brows furrowed, as he shook his head in disagreement.
"If she slept with him to get that role, how then did she get a place in NewDun? Leroy isn’t that capable," he pointed out.
Valentina rolled her eyes, a frustrated sigh escaping her lips.
"Isn’t that obvious? She slept with more men, of course. She wears expensive stuffs whose expenses I bet, are covered by the old men she whores around with. Some of her clothes and accessories are even of better brand than mine is."
"Then," Brian ran a hand through his hair. "If the people she sleeps with are so wealthy, why doesn’t she implore one of them to help clear her messy public image?"
"Because no one wants to incur public rage. They might be powerful but they know the public can bring them down in one day. It’s no surprise that they help her behind closed doors without endangering their own identities and livelihood." She continued, "So? Are you leaning towards the positive or negative side now?"
Brian rubbed his chin in deep thoughts, "With what I heard, I would say she isn’t Avery. She reacted like any normal person would when faced with a situation like that," he noted.
"And the fact that she called me a martyr, thinking I am doing all this for Emma?" Valentina scoffed.
"That’s another point," Brian agreed. "She sounded totally understanding at that moment. If she was Avery, I would have sensed the anger in her voice at least. Besides, she refused your help and lunch offer and opted to do things herself. If she was Avery, I think she would have used the opportunity to get closer to you."
"I get your point. If I were Avery chasing revenge with a new identity and all, my first step would be to get closer to you all so I can find loopholes and dig for evidence."
"Makes sense," Brian nodded in agreement. "We’re left with the last test then."
Valentina yawned. "Tell me what you need me to do. I have to get back to bed."
A sinister smile curved on Brian’s lips as he leaned forward, proceeding to give his instruction through whispers.

Avery had her hand wrapped around Valentina’s hair, a vicious expression on her face as she pulled it down, while the latter had tears in her eyes.
Jodi was sitting in one of the sofas, a bored expression on her face as she watched the scene, her eyes only brightening when it caught Stuart, who was standing in the middle of the room and wearing nothing but briefs. He was glaring at Avery.
"Cut!"
Director Leroy’s voice rang through the apartment, and the tense mood in the atmosphere dissipated as everyone’s face dissolved into small smiles.
Avery let go of Valentina’s hair that she had been holding, and flashed her a polite smile.
"I hope I didn’t pull too hard and hurt you?" she asked.
"Not at all," Valentina replied with an equally fake, but polite smile pasted on her own face. "I should be the one apologizing. I got so absorbed in the character’s emotions that I clawed your face when it was supposed to be just a fake slap."
Avery shook her head, her eyes crinkling in fake amusement.
"No, I understand. It’s nothing actually. I will apply a band-aid when I get out of here."
"Right," Valentina nodded slowly, her smile widening in a suspicious manner. "Now that I think about it, you must be used to incidents like this. Cat fights and clawed faces, I mean."
Alongside Avery, Stuart and Jodi’s attention were drawn to Valentina’s comment. Leroy also abandoned what he was doing and approached them.
All three of them had been surprised to see Avery and Valentina greet themselves politely earlier today when they both arrived at the set. Considering the incident of the previous day that made them postpone the shoot, they had expected a verbal showdown, at least, but had been both shocked and relieved when nothing happened.
Especially after Valentina apologized to each of them for being the cause of the delay that occured the previous day, and told them she’d apologized to Avery earlier.
But now, the simmering tension alerted them that whatever happened yesterday wasn’t completely swept under the carpet yet. And it seemed Valentina was also the instigator of this one.
"What do you mean by that?" Jodi questioned, standing and going to stay beside Avery, with annoyance vividly expressed on her face. "What do you mean she must be used to cat fights, huh?"
Valentina laughed it off, her hand smoothing over the sundress she was wearing.
"Nah, you won’t understand, Jodi. It’s an inside joke between Ava and I," she said, her voice laced with mockery. She directed her gaze to Avery. "You do understand me, right, Ava? Your side job... I mean."
