Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 139: A Joke?

Chapter 139: A Joke?

Brows furrowing in shock, Archie could not help but ask, "Is that a joke?" His eyes narrowed in annoyance. "Tell me it’s one, Ava."

"It’s not," Avery replied with a sigh. "He really can’t see me ’turned on’."

His eyes darkened.

"Then tell me there’s an explanation for this before the reporter on TV announces the sudden death of an A-list actor, for getting involved with a newbie in the industry," he threatened.

"Explanation for what?" Avery looked up with slight confusion in her eyes, and was taken aback by the annoyed glint in his eyes. At that moment, it suddenly dawned on her that the manner in which she presented her words was wrong. She hurriedly explained, "Wait." A dry laugh escaped her lips. "You aren’t thinking... Stuart didn’t make any advances to me at all—"

Archie cut in, his voice oozing impatience.

"Then why does he want to see how you look like when you’re turned on?"

Avery waved her hand immediately, her cheeks reddening furiously at the way he talked about her ’turned on’ like it was nothing.

"It’s not... Don’t put it that way when you have no idea what I wanted to say," she stammered. "It’s actually... You know the character I’m playing in Broken Hearts is an antagonist, and kind of like a slutty one, like the MC’s personal slut..."

Archie chuckled, a dry one. He sat up and placed the glass of whiskey he was holding on the table.

"This better not be leading where I’m thinking," he murmured. "Go on. I’m listening."

Avery nodded, licking her lips nervously as she began, "Here’s the thing. So there are like intimate scenes I have to shoot with Stuart, and he said my eyes and facial expression are mostly good. But when it comes to those... scenes, I’m always off and detached." She sighed. "Manager Leroy said he’s right, and that critics might focus on that and in the long run, it might affect the movie ratings. He says he doesn’t want me to bullied than I already am for poor acting, even though I’m already better than average for a newbie actress. But the attention on me... As Avery McCallum’s lookalike, I mean, has ridden me of any newbie actress privilege."

The tense atmosphere in the room decreased a notch. "So you’re telling me now that none of those two men offered to teach you, right? They only brought that to your attention?"

Avery nodded again.

"Yeah, Stuart didn’t. I already appreciate him enough for pointing out this error," she smiled. "Plus he’s busy. I don’t want to bother him with that."

Archie’s brows hiked up. So if this Stuart of a man wasn’t busy, his wife would have asked him to teach her? Or if he had offered, his wife would have accepted? He sucked in a sharp breath to calm himself down.

"And what do you plan to do now?" he asked.

"Learn," she replied.

"How do you intend to do that?"

Avery shrugged. "Maybe watch a few movies and imitate the actresses, I guess."

"You think you’ll be able to perfect your own facial expressions from watching a movie. And not just any facial expression."

A slight nod was her reply.

"Of course. I will practice in front of the mirror until I get it right even if it takes all night," she vowed.

Archie sat back, and the tension in the room completely disappeared.

"You aren’t practicing all night when your time is supposed to be mine. Remember? You are to sleep in my room, and in my bed tonight."

Avery shook her head quickly.

"We can postpone that to tomorrow night instead—"

"You think I’m stupid to accept such a deal? Why would I accept when I already have your night tomorrow."

Her face contorted into a frown.

"No, you don’t."

"Yes I do. Our date," Archie deadpanned. "You didn’t forget that too; that I won the bet, right?"

"Yeah, but you said date. Who said something about it being in the night? And let’s say it’s at night, shouldn’t that be dinner? That isn’t supposed to take all night," she reasoned.

Archie shrugged, picking up his glass to take a sip of whiskey. He was relaxed.

"Well, sorry to disappoint you but that’s for me to chose. And if I say it’s an overnight date, then that’s what it is." He frowned. "I don’t know what kind of wife doesn’t agree to go on a date with her husband, except the husband forces her and holds a bet over her head."

Avery was exasperated, "But, we are different. We aren’t like normal couples out there."

"In what way? Cause I can only think of one," Archie asked, his voice holding challenging and teasing tones. "Is my wife so eager to get to home base with me? All you have to do is ask, Mama."

Avery blushed again. She had known from back then when she wasn’t on good terms with this man before her that he was shameless, how could she forget so soon after she started living with him?

Sighing, she changed the topic immediately instead of responding to his earlier words, "Please, I need this time away. There’s a scene where I would need to do that tomorrow and I want my acting to be perfect in it." When his expression didn’t relax, she sighed, "Okay, just for a few hours then? Please..."

His eyes roving down her body in one quick sweep, Archie pretended to be in deep thought as a dark idea formed in his mind.

"Hmmm... Because you are so beautiful right now, I feel like helping you."

Avery paused, turning to look behind her as if to check if there was someone else. She couldn’t be the one Archie just refered to as... ’beautiful’, out of the blue

"You..."

"What?" he cut her off, "You don’t need my help?"

"No, no," she shook her head. "It’s just... it’s alright. I can do this myself."

"And how do you expect to attain that? Tell me, Mama, have you ever seen how your own face looks like when you’re aroused?"
