Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 105: Seduction Outfit

Chapter 105: Seduction Outfit

Music Rec: Ghost by Justin Bieber

Minutes Ago.

Archie stepped out of the pool, grabbing a towel that hung on the bench beside it, as he did. He threw the towel over his shoulder and without bothering to dry his body, went straight for the phone that was lying together with his laptop, a wine bottle, and a half filled glass of wine by the poolside.

"She hasn’t replied yet," he whispered, his brows pulling up into a frown.

He bent over slightly to pick up the laptop, wine bottle and the glass, but even as he went about the menial shore of returning them back to the appropriate places, the frown didn’t leave his face. He had walked in through the elevator exactly an hour ago, believing Avery was yet to be back according to what the driver said—that she hadn’t called him yet to come pick her up— and had proceeded to occupy himself with stupid activities so time could pass by quickly until her arrival.

He had fed Lake and Thorne, even though they both looked like they were fed recently, before proceeding to the pool to well... busy himself with someone’s Instagram page. Stuart Salvador really did have the nerves; placing his arm on her waist that way even though they were only acting. She wasn’t even his partner in the movie for goodness’ sake!

The only thing that had kept him sane while viewing the other still cut shots featuring Avery and the damned actor, was the fact that she didn’t look aroused even with her close proximity with a man like that. Yeah, she might not be expected to be really aroused, but she was expected to at least look like she was...but his Ava didn’t. If anything, she looked like someone who wanted to get it over with as soon as she could and escape from there.

The sound of the doorbell ringing made Archie stop dead in his track on the way to the cellar to drop off the bottle, the frown on his face erasing instantly. Did she forget her elevator card? Then why was she ringing the bell when she could just input the door passcode and come in? She wasn’t supposed to know he was home already.

"Have you been forcing my brothers to stay up to open the door for you while I was absent..." he asked as he pulled open the door, trailing off when he saw who was by the door.

It wasn’t Avery, but Jodi who now had shock plastered all over her face.

"You’re back, Mr. Don—"

"Don’t get overexcited," Archie cut her off, disappointment gnawing at his tone. "I came back alone. Your boyfriend isn’t here yet."

Jodi nodded. Not knowing the appropriate words to reply him with, seeing as he thought she came for Neil, she said, "Oh... alright. I uh... actually came for Ava. Is she alright?"

"What happened to her?"

Jodi swallowed, blinking repeatedly as if that would help with the anxiety suddenly creeping onto her nerves. Ava hadn’t wanted her husband to know, and now, she was making a slip in the man’s presence. If he ended up finding out because of this slip...Wait, this was not her fault. It was Ava’s fault for not calling Manager James and also not picking her own call when she called later.

She was worried, and no one could blame her for that.

"Did someone hurt her?"

Jodi snapped out of her thoughts, feeling his piercing gaze harden behind the glasses.

"No, no one did. But she promised to call earlier and ended up not calling, so I got worried," she replied. "Don’t bother with it. I’ll just try calling her again."

As she spoke, Jodi fished through her bag for the phone, feeling highly anxious at Archie’s glare that seemed to be fixed on her. She hoped he wasn’t thinking she hurt his wife as she wouldn’t put it past this man to murder her right there and then. He wouldn’t even need to cover it up; Neil would help him do that, she was sure.

"I’m calling her now," she whispered as she pressed on the icon to dial the number, only to hear the sound of a phone ringing from behind Archie.

The man was standing by the door, holding it open but with his body blocking the way as if to tell her she wasn’t welcome inside. Even with that, Jodi had no problem spotting the phone where it lied right beside Archie’s leg. Inside the house, but on the ground.

"Hmm," she cleared her throat. "Seems like she is back home. You could have said so—"

"I would have, if I knew she was back," Archie interrupted her, the surprise on her face mirrored on his as he bent to pick up the phone. There were countless message notifications and missed calls from Jodi and someone named Alice, causing his brows to furrow in worry.

Had she angrily thrown the phone there when she came in? He wouldn’t put it past her, considering her anger issue and the need to always destroy something and anything whenever it overcame her.

However, as he examined the phone right now, it didn’t seem like that theory was right as the device didn’t look like it was smashed in any way. Perhaps, it fell from her hand. But if that was the case, wasn’t she supposed to be searching for it right now? Yet, he hadn’t even heard anything that would make him aware a human was in the house ever since he came in.

"Maybe she fell asleep," he concluded out loud, to which Jodi gave a small nod that almost looked like a bow.

"I’ll leave then. Please, tell her to call me when she wakes up," she requested.

Archie gave a small nod of affirmation.

"She will. Thank you for checking up on her," he said, his voice laced with genuine appreciation. As she turned to go, he held up his hand, "A minute please." And without waiting for a reply, he turned to leave.

As soon as the exact one minute Archie requested for was up, the door opened and he was right there, holding a small box.

"Here."

Jodi blinked, slowly extending her hand to accept the box he was giving her. It wasn’t heavy and also wasn’t light, so she had no idea what could have been there.

"Thank you," she muttered.

Archie shrugged, "I won’t reject the appreciation but if it helps, that’s not a gift. It’s bribery." When Jodi continued to look at him, a mixture of confusion and curiosity evident in her eyes, he continued, "Goodnight. Dylan will drop you off. I should look for her."

"Good night," Jodi returned the wish and turned to leave. She got to the public elevator before hearing the sound of the door closing behind her.

Minutes later, Archie had made rounds around the penthouse twice to places he believed Avery might be hiding, as he had failed to find her in her room. And those places were the few rooms in the house that she had explored while he was still around. Judging from what he knew, she had never been interested in the other rooms and sections he didn’t show her...like the library, his study, the gym, and the pool...maybe.

"Ava!" he called, his voice echoing in the silent building. Having found her bag and a few lecture notes in it, together with the elevator card lying on her bed, he knew was in the penthouse. He was sure of it.

But where exactly?

Frustrated with the fruitless search, he ran a hand through his hair which was still wet, as he had not bothered drying it up when he changed into the black night shirt and slacks he was currently wearing, earlier.

"She didn’t use the toilet and decided to sleep there, right?" he asked out loud, shaking his head in answer to his own question. He already checked the toilets and bathrooms and Avery wasn’t asleep in any of them.

The sound of the door slamming close in the distance propelled his legs forward until he was standing in the dark hallway leading to the cellar. The door opened, and there she was.

Archie’s eyes darkened when he saw her stumbling out of the wine cellar, a bottle of wine in one hand and her night robe, in the other. She looked drunk; and her feet looked like they were barely able to hold her up. Was she...trying to walk in a tiptoe right now?!

"Ava," he called, his eyes making a short sweep over her body. From her red face to her puckered lips, to the short silk camisole that exposed her waist and down to the silk shorts that were barely covering her milky thighs.

This wasn’t a night wear...it was a carefully crafted seduction outfit, a blatant attempt at enticement. Only that it seemed Avery wasn’t aware of what she was doing.
