Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Challenging Everyone With the Sword
In the blink of an eye, eleven days had passed.
Shi Hao neither ate nor drank, as if he had turned into a clay figure.
At his level of cultivation, he could feast voraciously, consuming as much as a small mountain’s worth of food in one sitting; yet he could also endure hunger and thirst for many days without eating or drinking, merely drawing on some of the energy from heaven and earth to sustain his vitality.
Moreover, in such a meditative state, the consumption of body functions for Shi Hao was extremely minimal, which meant he could last even longer.
Su Manman, seeing this, felt bored, but did not interrupt; after all, such a state of enlightenment was rare, and she was certainly not someone oblivious to the bigger picture.
She took the big yellow dog and continued to wander about to prevent the despicable creature from disturbing Shi Hao.
This made the big yellow dog frustrated; in its eyes, Su Manman was a devil.
But what could it do? Dare it disobey?
As she walked, she saw a young man with a sword approaching. He looked to be no more than twenty-five or twenty-six, with an air of arrogance on his face.
As they passed by each other, the young man’s gaze remained fixed ahead and didn’t give Su Manman an extra glance.
However, Su Manman stopped in her tracks and turned around to look at the young man’s figure because he was heading for the pavilion at the mountain peak.
A swordsman going to the Sword Dao Sacred Land?
Su Manman thought for a moment, shrugged her shoulders, and didn’t take it to heart.
Meanwhile, after walking for a while, the young man had reached the cliff on the mountain summit, with the pavilion now in close proximity.
"Hmm?"
Seeing the young man approach, especially with a sword in his hand, many people immediately grew angry.
This was the Sword Dao Sacred Land, and here was a swordsman; was he here to make trouble?
"Who are you?" several people immediately jumped out, looking unfriendly.
Previously, Shi Hao was merely unarmed, but this guy had blatantly brought a sword; what more was there to say?
The man holding the sword cracked a slight smile, "My name is Jia Xin. I’ve practiced swordsmanship for ten years and have achieved some success. Today, I have come to demonstrate the might of the Sword Dao to you all and let you know that the sword is the king of all weapons, and Sword Dao is the true Way!"
"Bullshit!"
"Only wimps use swords!"
"Real men, of course, carry blades, you effeminate fool!"
The crowd was immediately provoked and hurled abuse.
In the Martial Arts Realm, which weapon was strongest was always a controversial topic.
Swordsmen naturally claimed the Sword Dao was the most powerful. Knife wielders would scoff at this, then brandish their blades to indicate that Knife Dao was the true Way. Spear users would also immediately jump out to argue their case.
In essence, it was a topic that invited contention, at the least causing disputes and at the worst leading to slashes and thrusts, ending in bloodshed.
Now, not only had Jia Xin carried a sword here, he had also stirred up the debate over which weapon was supreme, naturally igniting a fierce backlash from the swordsmen.
Faced with the crowd’s anger, Jia Xin remained unperturbed, "I will not bully you with my cultivation level; we will compare only our Technique and state of mind."
The crowd scoffed, thinking he must have said so seeing their number.
Jia Xin seemed to know they wouldn’t believe him, and with a slight smile, images of islands began to emerge around him, and upon counting, there were as many as nine.
Nine Islands!
At the Breaking the Extreme realm, one could only determine cultivation by strength, while in the Soul Nurturing realm, since few could manifest their Soul Power externally—and even if they did, none could witness it—Soul Power Balls were used to visualize cultivation level.
But at the Other Shore Realm, it was different; the soul was strong enough to manifest itself.
At merely twenty-five or twenty-six, yet possessing the cultivation of Nine Islands, how astonishing!
A genius.
Seeing this scene, everyone fell silent. Jia Xin hadn’t bragged; with his Nine Islands cultivation, even Liu Yulong was inferior, which meant it was very likely everyone could be defeated by him if they joined forces.
Only by comparing techniques and artistic conception, it was obvious they had an advantage.
"I’ll take you on." A man with a full beard stepped forward, clang, pulling out his sword and pointing it directly at Jia Xin.
"What is your cultivation level?" Jia Xin asked.
"Three steps Soul Nurturing," the bearded man said.
"Good," Jia Xin nodded. "I will fight you with the strength of three steps Soul Nurturing."
"Come on!" The bearded man roared and charged at Jia Xin.
Jia Xin drew his sword and stabbed towards the bearded man.
Ding!
The sword light flashed, and the scene froze.
The tip of the sword was resting on the bearded man’s throat, naturally making him afraid to move.
"Next," Jia Xin said indifferently, seemingly unconcerned about the victory.
"You must have used more power than three steps!" The bearded man’s face was red with indignation, unwilling to accept his defeat, and even less so to be defeated in one move.
"He didn’t," Liu Yulong interjected, his gaze towards Jia Xin revealing a hint of fighting spirit. "He truly surpassed you by a wide margin in terms of technique, your loss is not unjust, stop making a fool of yourself."
With that said, the bearded man fell silent, his face even uglier, but the beard provided some cover, so it wasn’t too obvious.
"I’m next!" Another person stood up, not wasting words, drawing his sword to strike immediately.
Jia Xin retreated. After two moves, he said, "You are at seven steps Soul Nurturing."
Whoosh, he finally counterattacked, and with a flash of his sword light, the tip of his sword was at his opponent’s throat.
Another victory.
"Next," Jia Xin said, his voice as bland as ever.
This calmness made everyone even angrier. Two consecutive victories, and yet he took it for granted. How disdainful could he be?
This incited many to challenge him one after another, however, Jia Xin continued to win battle after battle, usually with just a single move, and rarely did someone force him to make a second strike.
However, when the seventh person made a move, the situation finally changed.
He actually managed to suppress Jia Xin.
This excited everyone, and they cheered loudly for the man.
Jia Xin just shook his head and showed a look of disdain: "You are obviously at nine steps, but you pretend to be at eight. Did you think I couldn’t tell?"
He immediately increased his power and thrust out his sword, pfft, and blood spurted from his opponent’s throat.
Dead.
This angered the crowd, and they all glared at Jia Xin.
"Those who deceive me deserve death!" Jia Xin said flatly.
Liu Yulong also looked displeased, saying, "Indeed, he was at nine steps, yet he pretended to be at eight. Even if he had won against you, it would only have brought shame to the Sword Dao!"
This statement made everyone’s momentum falter.
"I am Liu Yulong, from the Seven Islands. We’ve all suppressed our combat power to that of One Island to fight again." Liu Yulong stepped forward. "Please, make your move!"
This issue concerned the question of whether swords or sabres were stronger. Even if he had no personal grievances with Jia Xin, he had to stand up and defend his own path.
This was a principle, a belief.
"Please," Jia Xin nodded, a smile on his face, but deep down, there was an air of arrogance emanating from him.
Liu Yulong made his move, whoosh, the sword light surged, emitting a strong Sword Intent.
Jia Xin couldn’t help but brighten his eyes, finally showing a hint of combat spirit.
