Chapter 150: Chapter 149: Annihilation
Dulda Apartment, serving as an exit for the Transmission Channel, had a much higher monster density inside than any other part of Raccoon City. A mere apartment building somehow contained seventy to eighty Zombies.
Under normal circumstances, there would be, at most, around one hundred Zombies per square kilometer. But this minuscule six-story Dulda Apartment building had more Zombies than what roamed in half a square kilometer of Raccoon City’s Outer Zone, which obviously defied common sense.
Zhang Yanhang initially thought the abnormal monster density in Dulda Apartment was a coincidence, but now the new Transmission Channel’s vicinity also had a much higher monster density compared to other parts of the Ant Nest, confirming that it was no coincidence.
"Could it be that the Transmission Channels actually have the ability to attract monsters? Otherwise, why would the monster density near them be higher than in other places?"
Zhang Yanhang felt that his guess might not be very reliable. After all, why would Transmission Channels attract monsters? Could monsters travel to the Main World through them, much like Spiritual Energy?
Regarding this issue of an overly high monster density near the Transmission Channel, Zhang Yanhang decided to ask the older Awakeners in the Ashen World group chat once he returned, to see if they knew anything about it.
"Forget it, I don’t feel like contemplating such matters. Let’s just start hunting monsters," said Zhang Yanhang as he pulled an M4A1 rifle out of his Waist Bag.
Gun in hand, Zhang Yanhang stepped out of the alley he was in. He hadn’t gone far before running headlong into a squad of Crimson Iron Worker Ants, about a dozen or so, transporting Crimson Iron Ore.
Upon seeing Zhang Yanhang, without any hesitation, all the Crimson Iron Worker Ants dropped the ore they were carrying and began to attack him.
The Worker Ants at the back kept spitting transparent Ant Acid at Zhang Yanhang, while those at the front pounced on him, constantly using their mouthparts to bite.
"Why are they so aggressive? They bite as soon as they rush out, just like Zombies escaping a cage. Is it because of their low level of wisdom?" wondered Zhang Yanhang, as he fired in bursts at the sly Worker Ants in the back row with the M4A1 rifle in his hands.
He could somehow tolerate bites, but the sticky Ant Acid was truly disgusting, so he temporarily ignored the pile of Worker Ants biting him and chose to prioritize attacking the ones spitting Ant Acid.
The loud gunfire echoed and spread through the narrow passage, but unfortunately, ants do not possess a sense of hearing, so the sounds didn’t attract more Crimson Iron Worker Ants as it would have with Zombies.
While Zhang Yanhang was thinking this, his Seeking Fortune and Avoiding Evil Skill suddenly sensed something unusual, "Hmm? Why are two squads of Crimson Iron Worker Ants deviating from their path and heading my way? I thought they couldn’t hear?"
Observing the Worker Ants’ antennae twitching, Zhang Yanhang considered that they might have reacted to the vibrations caused by the sound and moved towards the source of these vibrations. After all, ants are known to use vibrations to locate distant enemies.
A normal person might have started considering whether to give up using the rifle to avoid being overwhelmed and killed by the Crimson Iron Worker Ants, but that clearly didn’t concern Zhang Yanhang. The more monsters, the more excited he got. Fear was out of the question, and faced with the Soul Points volunteering themselves, he was naturally overjoyed to welcome them.
The main reason was that Zhang Yanhang had an Energy Shield protecting him, and unless monsters capable of breaking his defense swarmed him, like a Second Order One Star Prototype Tyrant, otherwise, as long as they couldn’t breach his defense, no matter how many monsters came, even tens of thousands would mean nothing to him. Solving the problem was merely a matter of time.
Enjoying the Attack Power Bonus of the Gun Master skill, the rifle bullets easily penetrated the exoskeleton of the Crimson Iron Worker Ant and continued through their bodies to hit the crimson iron ore around them, creating small pits in the walls and the ground.
The tough exoskeleton of the Crimson Iron Worker Ant was easily shattered by the bullets, with viscous crimson fluid slowly seeping out of the bullet-riddled wounds. Their already meager brains were pulverized by the spiraling progress of the bullet.

...
Zhang Yanhang had just sprayed gunfire casually when several Crimson Iron Worker Ants that had been in the back row constantly spitting Ant Acid were already all dead.
While shooting with his left hand, Zhang Yanhang’s right hand was also busy, ceaselessly grabbing the Crimson Iron Worker Ants clinging to him and squashing each one. Now, the ground was littered with broken appendages and severed mouthparts.
He grabbed the last Crimson Iron Worker Ant on him and smashed it against the wall beside him, the weird thud, like that of plastic, sounding off as the ant’s exoskeleton was directly shattered, the fragile flesh wrapped underneath dispersing into a pool of minced meat.

Compared to the zombies of Raccoon City, Zhang Yanhang found the nicest trait of the Crimson Iron Worker Ant to be that one didn’t need to blow up their heads. Attacking their bodies would also result in death. Well, that’s also a common trait of normal life forms.
However, Zhang Yanhang had always been hunting zombies, so he never really experienced this.
Sometimes he would rip a zombie into two pieces, but since the zombie’s head was still attached to the body, even ripping the zombie in half wouldn’t result in its death. He had to pull the zombie’s head off or blow it up completely to receive the related kill notification.
About this, Zhang Yanhang always found it annoying, but with normal biological entities like the Crimson Iron Worker Ant, he never encountered this scenario. He could casually fire a few shots into their thorax and abdomen and immediately receive the appropriate kill notifications.
Zhang Yanhang stood idly, waiting for the Treasure box to appear. During this time, he briefly counted the number of Crimson Iron Worker Ants he had just killed; there were about fifteen in total, and these fifteen Crimson Iron Worker Ants dropped a total of two White Treasure Boxes.
