Chapter 111 Ambush
Chapter 111: Chapter 111 Ambush
Zhang Yanhang had to constantly hunt monsters every day, if tired, he would sleep, and after sleeping, he would continue hunting monsters, an endless cycle. Though it helped increase his strength, it was indeed tedious and dull. If he stayed any longer, he even doubted he might suffer from PTSD. Therefore, he needed to appropriately return to the Main World for a break to alleviate those negative emotions.
"What should I do next? Maybe I should continue hunting monsters, after all, it’s been just over two hours since I last rested. Now is not the time to rest." Although he had already decided to hunt monsters, Zhang Yanhang still lay motionless in bed.
"I’m so hungry, haven’t eaten for four days, really hungry..." Due to the intense hunger, Zhang Yanhang wanted to lie in bed for a little while to alleviate it before going to hunt monsters.
But even with such hunger, Zhang Yanhang wouldn’t drink canned soup which tasted like thick snot; that was a matter of principle.
Only twelve hours until he could return to the Main World, he felt that he just needed to endure a little longer. After all, he had already persisted for so long before, he absolutely could not fail at this point.
After lying in bed for ten minutes, the listless Zhang Yanhang poured another bottle of mineral water for himself to slightly ease the hunger, "Let’s start hunting monsters again; I hope this time I can completely clear the sewer section."
Although hunger continued to wear down his will, his main feeling now was intense exhaustion. After working continuously for such a long period, he felt overall weakness, a bit sleepy, and lacked spirit.
...
Three hours later, in the Core Area of Raccoon City, a quiet six-story building.
"Three hours, a full three hours, and I still haven’t begun formally clearing the Core Area. The pace of progress is indeed a bit too slow..."
But even though he said this, Zhang Yanhang hadn’t been just sleeping; he did some preparatory work, such as ambushing and killing most of the Beta-type Hunters and Lickers in the Core Area, as well as some Ordinary Zombies and Zombie Dogs; he had almost cleared them all.
Therefore, now on the streets of the Core Area, only twenty Prototype Tyrants were still able to move. Originally there were almost thirty Prototype Tyrants, but he had managed to kill some during his ambush just now.
Next, Zhang Yanhang needed to use the Limitless Universe Skill to recover his Energy Value, as he had consumed a lot of energy while dealing with the troublesome Beta-type Hunters and Lickers.
After his recent ambush, the surviving Prototype Tyrants had all gathered together and started clustering for warmth, so it was definitely impossible to defeat them one by one. It was just a matter of confronting them head-on, trying to kill a few and then running if the battle turned unfavourable.
By repeating this process, Zhang Yanhang estimated that it might not take too many rounds to finish off the remaining Prototype Tyrants.
...
Two hours later, still in the Core Area of Raccoon City, the same quiet six-story building.
After actively running the Limitless Universe Skill for two hours, Zhang Yanhang’s energy was mostly recovered. Although his status panel indicated that he could only recover 15 points of energy per hour, he could use Limitless Universe Skill actively to absorb the Spiritual Energy of Ashen World and accelerate his energy recovery.
Based on Zhang Yanhang’s actual tests, while actively running the Limitless Universe Skill, his Energy Value Recovery Speed could reach about five times the speed indicated on his status panel.
But even then, at five times the speed, he could only recover 75 points of energy per hour. With a maximum Energy Value of 250 points, it would still take over three hours to fully recover his energy.
Thus, because the energy recovery speed was so slow, Zhang Yanhang had always been very conservative in his energy use during previous clearing endeavors.
After all, if he used up all his energy, then it would take three to four hours of running the Limitless Universe Skill to recover it, which was really a waste of time. In over three hours, Zhang Yanhang could almost clear an area of four square kilometers in the Outer Zone.
Therefore, using Energy Value to speed up the monster-clearing process was really not cost-effective compared to using Physical Strength; it’s only suitable for short-term bursts, but long-term endurance still depends on Normal attacks.
"Let’s now begin clearing the Core Area officially. With 7 hours left and only twenty Prototype Tyrants remaining, I am sure I can clear them all in one go." Zhang Yanhang leaped directly from the rooftop of the six-story building.
Thud!
Zhang Yanhang landed steadily on the ground, creating a shallow pit full of cracks and stirring up a large cloud of dust on the zombie blood-stained concrete.
Upon hearing the massive sound of Zhang Yanhang’s impact, the twenty Prototype Tyrants not far away all surged towards his location.
Zhang Yanhang sighed softly, then pulled out seven or eight grenades from his Waist Bag. He would have liked to use dozens of grenades to kill those tyrants from a distance, but the issue was that he was running out of grenades.
After all, it was just a gun store, which had only two boxes of grenades in total. Having some left after clear the Outer and Middle areas of Raccoon City was already quite fortunate.
Now, these seven or eight grenades were almost Zhang Yanhang’s final stock, but fortunately, when he scanned the Police Station, he found it had no Police Zombies, but plenty of guns and ammunition for his replenishment.
The only things he lacked were grenades and rocket launchers. As for bullets, he still had quite a lot left; even if all the zombies in Raccoon City that had died were brought back to life for a few more rounds of shooting, it would be enough, so there was no need to economize on bullets.
It was precisely because bullets were plentiful that Zhang Yanhang often started by shooting half a magazine to test the waters. Unfortunately, although bullets were plentiful, loading them was really troublesome, even with Zhang Yanhang’s fast hands, it took quite some time to load.
Zhang Yanhang pulled the pins from the grenades in his hand, silently counted a few numbers in his mind, then hurled them towards the core group of the incoming Prototype Tyrants.
Previously, Zhang Yanhang had once tried to use the method of throwing grenades from a distance to kill Tyrants in an open area, but he forgot to count down. As a result, a Prototype Tyrant caught the grenade with its relatively normal left hand and threw it back at him, stunning Zhang Yanhang on the spot.
