Ascension of the Dark Seraph
Chapter 324 - 324: Depleted Essence Bars

Lucivar looked down at his hand, a smile tugging the corner of his lips.

He was becoming incredibly strong without realizing it.

Loki gave him the Mischief Panes, allowing him to upgrade his spell and ability masteries. Sutekh gave him access to the Stone Tablet of Physique, enhancing his physical abilities to a terrifying degree. And now, Tamtu gave him the Monstrification Meter.

It allows Lucivar to have access to weapons or monstrous equipment at all times.

Just infusing a bit of essence into a street lamp turned it into a monstrous lance.

One that was alive, sharper, and caused an explosion with each strike.

'Hmm, I wonder, is there a limit?'

Lucivar wondered, sensing that if he wanted to, he could keep infusing the lance with more essence and transform it into a stronger monster. There's still more to the Monstrification Meter that he was not aware of, but he couldn't experiment in the city.

It would be too eye-catching, which was why he was going to leave the city for a bit.

He hadn't even tried out the Monster Skin ability, expecting it to be too flashy.

On top of experimenting, he could also visit Morriva, who was already thirsty for his presence.

Several paces away, the monster was still alive, standing on trembling legs.

Lucivar gazed at it without any sign of urgency.

Nearby, the lance was sprawled on the ground, knocked away due to the explosion.

He approached it, prompted it upward with his foot, and caught it with his hand effortlessly.

Once he did, the monster roared and sucked in a deep breath, gathering lightning inside its mouth.

Boom!

It blasted a heavy lightning strike from its mouth, but it didn't scare Lucivar.

Reacting as fast, a bronze goo surged over the entire monster lance, staining the blade with a dark brown hue as it shimmered with the Heat of Duat. Lucivar tightened his grip and gave a casual flick, releasing a rippling, crescent-shaped blast that cleaved through the lightning strike and carved across the monster like a breeze.

Lucivar didn't need to wait.

He instantly turned and walked back towards Nerissa.

On the other hand, the monster paused, frozen, until, at last, its upper body slid cleanly from its waist.

It made a fleshy, thudding sound as it landed on the pavement.

Be it when it was still a human female or a monster, it died the same exact death—cleaved into two.

Soon, the Hybrid Association came, heeding the call from the witnesses.

Lucivar and Nerissa didn't avoid them.

Instead, they were waiting for the Hybrid Association to take charge of the situation, as the damage done to the street was quite severe. Both of them were asked to give a statement about what happened, and fortunately, due to their popularity, they were let off the hook without much trouble.

None of them suspected that the monster was born from Lucivar's power.

But then again, having such power is unheard of, even for high-ranking Hybrids.

Back in the academy dormitory.

Lucivar headed back to his room while looking at the purple sphere on his hand.

Killing that woman granted him a purple sphere and also a bronze sphere.

'How do I get this? Is it because killing that monster saved Nerissa from being arrested—or was it the chaos that granted me this sphere?' Lucivar frowned; he was still confused about the purple sphere. 'I want to ask Sirrush, but he'll only mock me for not knowing.'

As soon as he reached his room, he found Ravenna curled up on the bed.

He put the purple sphere into his Inner Chamber and looked outside the window.

It was pouring, lightning flashed with a thunderous crack every ten seconds, causing Ravenna to shudder.

Nerissa walked past him from behind and went to the bathroom.

"I'm going to wash up first."

"Make sure to get ready, we're going to leave in a couple of hours."

"Okay, I will."

As Nerissa walked back to the bathroom, Lucivar took off his shirt and got into the blanket.

He embraced Ravenna from behind, pressing his face into the warmth of her neck.

Ravenna moaned a little and opened her eyes.

As soon as Lucivar's body touched hers, the trembling faded from her limbs.

"You smelled like another woman," Ravenna commented instantly.

She has a sharp nose, and the sweet floral perfume that stuck onto Lucivar's skin was picked up instantly.

"Nerissa did something wild today. She killed Angel's friend and almost got me into trouble."

"Mmh? Really? Why did she do that?"

"She said you won't approve, so she wanted to separate me from her."

"By killing her friend?"

Ravenna let out a soft chuckle, but it would've been a lie to say she was surprised.

She wasn't.

"You conditioned her to hate Angel, didn't you? Sigh… I really need to keep my guard up around you."

"Arguing with you would only be futile. You don't expect me to be passive, don't you?"

"Of course not. But still, I have to hand it to you, I didn't expect this."

For a moment, the two of them basked in the silence, their soft breaths weaving together into a quiet, steady symphony. Lucivar was going to get an hour or two of shut-eye as the sun was going to rise soon, but he opened his eyes again when Ravenna called him.

"Lucivar…"

"Hmm?"

"Are you aw-"

Ravenna paused mid-sentence.

She wanted to ask about Delilah's voice, but she's afraid of how Lucivar would react.

Delilah's death was the spark of his transformation—and she feared that telling him someone had tried to kill her that night might push him over the edge. Speaking openly with Lucivar was never easy—not when she knew how terrifying he could be at times.

"What are you trying to say?"

"I… Bob is missing, and I think it has something to do with Master Tobias."

Still not brave enough to talk about that topic, Ravenna decided to change it.

Matters regarding Bob are also important.

"Missing? Maybe Tobias sent him somewhere. Don't think too much about it."

"No, something is definitely wrong with this."

Ravenna decided to tell Lucivar about the letter, helping him to understand that this is serious.

She told him from start to finish without leaving a single detail.

Even though Lucivar thought nothing of this initially, he understood now why Ravenna was worried about Bob. It was unusual, and the coincidences are terrifying. Not to mention, Leandra also confessed that he saw Bob's towel in Master Tobias' office.

"So, what are you going to do?"

"I'm planning on investigating a little, but I don't know if it's the right thing."

"The right thing?" Lucivar let out a low chuckle. "That doesn't matter. Just investigate and find out why Master Tobias is lying to us. If he didn't want us to be curious, he shouldn't have given us a reason to be. So, don't bother worrying about it."

He turned his body, looking at the ceiling with both hands behind his head.

"If we're wrong, then so be it," He shrugged his shoulders.

Ravenna turned towards him, placing a hand against his chest, "And if we're right?"

At the thought of Master Tobias being behind Bob's disappearance, Lucivar's expression hardened—but for once, he wasn't sure what he would do. Delilah had adored Master Tobias, so even if he somehow made mistakes, punishing him wouldn't be easy.

Delilah wouldn't want that, and Lucivar knew it.

"Let's see how it goes first," Lucivar sighed. "Just don't confront him without everyone present."

"Okay…" Ravenna nodded.

As soon as the conversation ended, Lucivar felt a tightness in his chest that forced him to sit up.

He quickly got off the bed, feeling something rising from his throat.

Before he realized it, he was doubled over, blood pouring from his mouth.

"Lucivar, what happened? Are you hurt?!"

Ravenna immediately threw the blanket aside and rushed to his side, surprised to see that he had gotten off the bed abruptly and started vomiting blood. He'd seemed perfectly fine before, with no wounds or signs of injury, making the sight all the more shocking.

It was the same for Lucivar.

He wiped his mouth and frowned.

"I don't know… I'm supposed to be fine."

"Let's go to a healer to check your internal flow. Something must be wrong."

As Ravenna rushed to put on her clothes, Lucivar looked down at the floor with clear confusion.

Ahead of him was the ghostly monster of the Monstrification Meter.

Lucivar watched as the essence bar, which was still a quarter full, was drained until it was empty.

"What's wrong with it…?" He murmured in thought.

He had never had this kind of problem with Loki and Sutekh before, where his essence bars were drained because of something. Surely, he did something wrong, but he didn't know what, "Sirrush, explain this. I'm not playing around right now."

Out of nowhere, Sirrush appeared, flapping his wings to hover in front of him.

"Mother dislikes any move that might put those around you in jeopardy." He answered nonchalantly.

Lucivar looked down again, his mind reeling in confusion.

Morning came.

Lucivar loaded his bag into the car, along with his monster lance—carefully wrapped in cloth to keep from alarming anyone—strapped securely to the roof. He was heading out to check on Morriva, and after that, planned to throw himself into a relentless training spree with his newly gained powers.

Seeing him off were the others.

Mirel and Bakar were there, but both of them still felt awkward.

Neither of them knew how to act around Lucivar after knowing that he had Gods inside of him.

It wasn't a particularly normal circumstance, so they couldn't ask anyone for advice either.

"Don't surprise me like that again, I mean it," Ravenna whispered.

Lucivar nodded, "It's nothing, really. You won't see me like that again."

Since the others' eyes were on them, Ravenna only tapped on his shoulder and walked away.

Then, Leandra approached.

"Where are you going, exactly?"

"Training. It won't take long, a couple of days or a week maximum."

"I'm not worried about you. I'm worried about Nerissa."

"Hey, it all worked out in the end. That's what counts, right?"

"Of course not!"

Leandra exclaimed in disbelief.

She almost had a heart attack when Nerissa sacrificed herself for Lucivar, so it's not fine.

On the other side of the car, Nerissa had already poked her head and gave a thumbs up.

It was time for them to depart.

Lucivar gave Mirel and Bakar a casual wave, earning only stiff nods in return, before turning his attention back to Leandra. Gripping her shoulder, he leaned in close to her ear. "Remember—whatever you find, don't confront the master alone. Not without everyone there. Especially not without me."

"I know, you don't have to tell me twice." She turned her troubled gaze away.

Nodding his head, Lucivar entered the car and told the driver to depart.

And almost instantly, he closed his eyes, wanting to go to his Inner Chamber.

'I have three Divine Merits from killing Caldaros, now is the time to use them.'
