As a Fisherman, My Fish Can Level Up
Chapter 408 - Chapter 408 Chapter 295 Tuna Snatching Food_3

Chapter 408: Chapter 295: Tuna Snatching Food_3 Chapter 408: Chapter 295: Tuna Snatching Food_3 Many contestants, when they can’t find any Golden Spearfish or Marlin, would also fish for other species to make up for it.

The two acted swiftly and soon set up two fishing rods at the stern of the boat.

Chu Mingcheng attached a shrimp cage and stuffed it with thawed Antarctic Shrimp as the fish were located at a depth of sixty meters.

The bait used was also Antarctic Shrimp since the fish weren’t big, and other baits were not quite suitable.

It was now dark, and it was the peak time when fish come out to forage for food at night.

The two had just dropped their bait when they got a bite.

Both fishing rods caught fish, with only a dozen or so seconds between them.

At a depth of sixty meters and with the fish not being large, Chu Mingcheng had an easy time pulling them up.

Although he was a few seconds behind, he was the first to reel the fish in.

A light pink squarehead fish appeared on the deck. Jiang Luoluo had never seen this kind of fish before. As she was busy, she didn’t forget to turn her head and ask, “Ah Cheng, what kind of fish is this?”

“White Gindai, scientifically known as Plectorhinchus cinctus,” Chu Mingcheng said while checking his phone to look up the market price, “This fish sells for around sixty yuan per pound in the market. The ones we caught should fetch twenty more. Not bad.”

The price of sixty yuan per pound, naturally, didn’t classify it as a premium fish. This was also why, even though the fish attraction feature was activated, it was Jiang Luoluo who caught one first.

“So this is White Gindai, huh? I’ve heard it tastes quite good.”

After a while, Jiang Luoluo finally reeled her fish in, another White Gindai.

Hers was slightly smaller, less than forty centimeters in length, probably weighing around two or three pounds.

“We’ll know if it tastes good when we try one later. Since we’ve encountered a school of fish tonight, let’s catch more,” he said.

Chu Mingcheng placed the fish in a foam box lined with crushed ice. This fish is rarely seen alive in the market, generally sold as chilled fish.

Thus, there wasn’t much price difference between a live and a dead one, so there was no need for him to keep them alive on purpose.

Bigger price gaps between live and dead fish are typically seen in species like Grouper or some top-grade coral fish.

For instance, Rat Spots can sell for over a thousand yuan per pound when alive. But once dead, even if they have just died, the price plummets to eighty or a hundred yuan per pound.

For many fish species with high production volumes, whether they are dead or alive doesn’t really matter; the price won’t fluctuate much because of it.

White Gindai isn’t very famous, but it has a good cost-effectiveness ratio. Chu Mingcheng planned to catch more of them tonight to give back to his customers.

After the fishing moratorium earlier this year, some customers would often complain that he only dealt with Golden Spearfish, leaving them nowhere to buy fish.

In reality, Chu Mingcheng was still selling other types of fish, but in indeed smaller quantities than before. With the growing number of customers, everyone got a smaller share.

This resulted in the earliest customers being unable to stock up like before and have enough to eat for a while.

Having encountered White Gindai tonight, Chu Mingcheng thought he might as well fish for some cutlassfish, so his customers wouldn’t keep complaining in the group chat about not having fish to eat.

As time slowly passed, with their effort, they managed to catch a box and a half of White Gindai by ten-thirty at night, roughly around one hundred and twenty pounds.

The school of fish at the seabed wasn’t very large, and after the peak feeding time had passed, they had left. There hadn’t been another bite for over ten minutes.

“Looks like the fish are gone!” Jiang Luoluo said as she reeled in her fishing line.

Seeing that it was almost eleven o’clock, Chu Mingcheng decided not to change fishing spots to continue, “Yeah, let’s call it a night and rest up, so we’re ready to catch some big fish tomorrow.”

“Yeah, I’ll just…” Jiang Luoluo nodded. Just as she began to speak, her rod suddenly jerked downward–a fish had taken the bait. “Whoa, I’ve got another one!”

“Seems like you’re in luck,” Chu Mingcheng laughed as he reeled in his line as well.

Jiang Luoluo shrugged and prepared to reel in the fish. However, as she struggled to bring it to the surface, a sudden massive creature appeared, snapping at the fish with its mouth.

“Ahh~”

The fishing rod was yanked from Jiang Luoluo’s hands by the powerful pull, and the safety line attached to the railing tensed up immediately.

Chu Mingcheng was startled and quickly pulled Jiang Luoluo away.

The next moment, the tightly stretched fishing line snapped back, hitting the railing.

If Jiang Luoluo had still been in the same spot, the line might have hit her.

Witnessing this, she patted her chest, still shaken, and said, “What was that just now? It was huge, sort of like that big swordfish you caught before?”

Chu Mingcheng held her hand to check she was okay and let out a sigh of relief once he saw no harm was done.

His eyes then lit up with excitement as he replied, “It seemed like a Marlin, though I didn’t see it very clearly. Looks like there won’t be any rest tonight. I’m going to get the bait out; give me a hand with chumming the water in a bit.”

Luck was on their side tonight. Just when they were about to head back and rest after catching White Gindai, a Marlin appeared.

He had seen it more clearly–it did indeed seem like a Marlin, not a swordfish with its more pointed, not flat, bill.

And its fins were slightly different from the swordfish he caught before, but the differences were subtle, so he wasn’t certain.

But with a size like that, it was either a Marlin or a swordfish; he would profit no matter which one he caught.

He hurried to the cold storage to get two boxes of bait to thaw, and Jiang Luoluo wasn’t idle: she picked up a fish knife and began chopping the White Gindai they had caught into pieces.

She cut all of them into chunks and hurriedly threw them into the water to keep the Marlin that had shown up from leaving.

They didn’t know if there were several Marlins in the water below, but even if it was just one, they wouldn’t lose out tonight.
