Chapter 50: Chapter 50 Mysterious Man (1)
As she was about to take the last step, a hand suddenly pulled her back.
"What are you doing here, planning your demise?" Klaus’ voice rang in her head.
The hand of the figure clenched so tight that his knuckles were white. The sight of this made her heart burn for unknown reasons.
"Let go of me!" she yelled, struggling against his grip.
"No. Where are you going? Do you even know where you are right now?" Klaus warned.
"Let go." Olivia pulled her hands away, dashing off to the other side of the tree, but there was nothing except the trail of his faint scent that lingered in the air. Her heart sank into her chest.
As if something had snapped within her, she fell to her knees, her eyes blank, disbelief contorted her face.
She clenched her chest. She felt she had lost an important piece of herself. "He was just here," she whispered.
Her eyes burned red with rage. "You chased him away," she glared daggers at Klaus, who was taken aback by her sudden change of attitude.
"Him? Who is him?" he asked, his gaze darkening, before darting back and forth as if to catch hold of this supposed "him."
Olivia sobbed, bitterness flooded her chest. She didn’t know why she felt this way.
"Olivia, look at me." Klaus held her face, his eyes burning through hers. "We have to leave now. This is the forbidden part of the school," he slowly said so she would understand the implications of spending more time.
"I’m not leaving. I don’t believe you," she answered in the same tone, slow and intentional.
Klaus hissed. His hand grabbed her hand, lifting her onto his shoulders.
Olivia’s hands flailed, scratching and hitting him. "Let me go," she screamed.
Growl.
"Did you hear that?" Olivia whispered. Klaus ignored her, his eyes scanning the woods.
Then all hell broke loose, as the growl reverberated through the air again. Klaus activated his leg armour, his eyes blazed sharp blue.
The monster dashed towards them. Klaus turned and blurred through the forest. The monster closed the gap, each step shaking the earth beneath them.
"Hurry!" Olivia’s heart almost leaped out of her chest. Panic flooded her chest. ’What the hell is that?’ she cried inwardly.
She could not make sense of the monster’s form as they were moving too fast. Only its green eyes shone like a torchlight.
Klaus dashed out of the maze, his feet screeching against the ground as he came to a stop. He turned around, facing the monster who seemed to linger behind, its green eyes blazing in the distance before its form retreated back.
Klaus deactivated his armour, his eyes returned back to their normal shade. Olivia quickly jumped down from his shoulder.
"What... What was that?" she stuttered.
"A monster. And that is not any monster... it’s a high-ranking monster obtained by sheer luck," he said, his gaze lingering on the far forest. He snapped his neck toward her. "You must never come back here again," he warned, as he wiped a trail of blood from her lips.
"What type of monster is it?" she couldn’t help but ask.
Klaus only spared her a glance. "The one you wouldn’t want to know," he answered with a smirk before turning to walk away.
"Klaus," she called out hesitantly. Klaus halted midway. He didn’t say anything, rather he only listened.
"Thank you... for saving me," she fidgeted with her hands.
"You don’t need me to show you the way to your room, right?" he teasingly asked.
Olivia hastily shook her head. "No."
Klaus walked away. Olivia inhaled, her gaze lingering on the maze, her hands twitched at the thought that the man was still inside. ’What about if he gets hurt?’ Her throat tightened.
"Should I go? What if he had escaped? He must have," she tried to persuade herself. She decided to walk away but only to stop midway. "What if he did not escape?" The thought felt like a searing hot knife pressing against her chest.
She turned toward the maze, unsure if going back inside was a good idea. But she wouldn’t let him die.
"Olivia." A voice called out behind her.
"What’s with the interruption?" she groaned in annoyance.
She turned. The figure of Abigail came into view.
Olivia exhaled. "Abigail," a smile tugged on her lips.
"How have you been? I thought you had died. You almost turned the academy upside down. Alexa was busy searching for you, and as if that was not enough, an elite group was also sent to look for you. I mean, you have become more famous," Abigail rattled on.
Olivia’s brows furrowed, her head swirling from the rattling. "Oh."
"Alexa sent me to treat you. We have to go now. We wouldn’t want to let her essence seep into you, would we?" She took her hand, not giving her a chance to refute.
"Alexa?" she almost scoffed at the irony. Her eyes darted back to the maze as she was being pulled by Abigail.
"Yes. Aren’t you lucky? You can even make her worry about you. I have never seen her care for anyone except for you," she cheerfully said.
...
Meanwhile, as the figure of Olivia and Abigail disappeared from view, Klaus came out from a corner. He momentarily glanced in their direction before vanishing into the maze.
Satyr loomed from the shadows—tall, gaunt, and grotesque. Its glowing emerald eyes cut through the darkness like blades. Blackened horns twisted from its skull, and thick smoke rolled off its skin like it was forged in hellfire. Its limbs bent at unnatural angles, claws dragging across the ground, carving deep scars into the earth.
"Satyr," he called out. Before the blink of an eye, the monster stood towering over him.
"Sorry I startled you earlier, but I had to pretend I didn’t know you. I hope you won’t blame me?" he coaxed. His blue eyes met its green one.
The monster growled in protest, but its voice later turned into a meek one.
"Someone was in the forest, Satyr. Did you notice anyone?" he asked as his hand patted through its smoky black skin.
Satyr nodded its head.
Klaus’ eyes darkened, his hand slightly clenching. He smiled, his expression bright and harmless. "He must have not found a way out yet. I want you to find him and... KILL HIM. You can bring his dead body to me," he gently caressed the monster’s body.
"Tear him apart... as many pieces as you want," he added.
