Chapter 110: Chapter 109 The Aftermath

Olivia crawled closer to Luke’s body. She touched his face. He had already gone cold. A tear dropped from her eyes at the realisation.

She instantly turned around when she heard footsteps. There, she saw part of her worst nightmare.

It was Diana and the rest of her squad. Bella saw the sight and ran towards them. She shoved Olivia away before her knees dragged into the ground.

She shakily checked Luke’s nose to see if he was still breathing. But she felt nothing. Her body trembled with pain and anger.

Diana’s feet faltered weakly. She had known that something was wrong, but she never expected to find Luke lying lifelessly on the ground.

They have fought numerous battles with the monsters. He didn’t die. But why now? Why? Her emotions crashed into her like a tidal wave.

She clutched her chest in pain. Her eyes flickered to the person who was beside her. Olivia’s clothes were covered in blood. Diana gritted her teeth. Her eyes landed on Lucian, who looked very pale and exhausted. It looked like he was barely hanging on.

"What have you done to him?" Bella held Olivia by her clothes. She stood up, her nose flaring.

Olivia didn’t know how to answer that question. She wasn’t even trying to defend herself. After all, everything happened because of her.

"You killed him!" Her voice echoed through the dead woods. "You monster!" Her fist connected to Olivia’s jaw.

Olivia spat out blood before returning her face to her. She didn’t fight back. She didn’t try to look for ways to escape. Her eyes lingered on Luke.

Another punch landed on her face, but Olivia didn’t flinch nor make a sound.

Lucian moved, anger flooding his veins, but Henrik’s hand clamped down on him before he could get far. He tried to break free from his grip but was unable to because he was already weak.

"Stop," Lucian cried out, his hand reaching for her. "She killed him. She deserves all the beating she can get." Henrik’s words cracked with anger, his eyes red from the pain he was feeling.

Liam and Ellie stood in a daze. They never expected this to happen, not after they had escaped from the monster’s domain.

Tears trickled down Ellie’s eyes. She couldn’t believe this. She turned to her brother, crying in his arms. Liam soothed his sister, while his heart burned with pain.

Tyler stood frozen, all his veins bulging with anger, regret, and grief. As a leader of the squad, it felt as if he didn’t do his job properly. If he was a good leader, this wouldn’t have happened. He could have searched for him. He could have saved him before it was too late.

His eyes lingered on the sword wound on his chest, and he could tell that was the final strike that took his comrade and brother’s life.

His gaze flickered to Olivia, who was getting punched by Bella but wasn’t fighting back. She looked empty as if she wanted to get the beating. He could see the wounds inflicted on her, even the sword wound on her chest. He closed his eyes, trying to push back the tears from falling.

"Stop!" His voice shook the air, making everyone turn to him.

He walked towards Bella and pulled her away. The moment her hands left Olivia’s body, Olivia fell to the ground. She couldn’t even say the word "sorry." She felt like she didn’t deserve to say it.

The punches felt like nothing to her. It wasn’t comparable to the pain in her heart. Slowly, she finally let darkness take over her body. Her eyes shut closed. She wished she had died in place of her. " Luke... I’m sorry." Everything went dark.

Henrik’s grip on Lucian finally loosened. Lucian scrambled weakly to where Olivia lay unconscious, his hands trembling as he saw her pitiful state. Tears and wounds covered her face, her cheeks swollen.

The pain gripping his heart made him want to cry, but before he could say or do anything, a ringing sound echoed in his head.

But still he reached out with a trembling hand, guilt curling in his chest. " I should’ve... been faster." His eyes blurred, and then the world tilted before darkness claimed him.

Diana’s eyes lingered on Lucian’s body. A thought ran through her mind: if she could kill him as he was unconscious now, then the prophecy wouldn’t come true. This was a golden opportunity, but yet her legs refused to move. Because deep down... she didn’t know if she could live with it.

"Let’s take our brother out of this place... he deserves better," Tyler said with a voice that was so thick with emotions and authority.

He knew it wasn’t Olivia’s fault. He knew Luke very well, and he knew he had died to protect her. He can’t take action against Olivia. It would be like Luke had died for nothing.

"What should we do with them?" Henrik pointed to both Olivia and Lucian, who were lying unconscious inches away from each other. "They have led Luke to his death," he added with so much hatred.

"Nothing." Tyler’s answer was like cold water to them.

What did he mean by nothing? Didn’t he see how Luke had died? Wasn’t he feeling all this pain and grief they were feeling?

The thoughts echoed in their heads.

"What does that mean?" Bella asked, her eyes burning like she wanted to kill someone.

"It means nothing." Tyler answered again. "It was Luke’s choice to protect her... I believe you all are not dumb enough not to know what had happened. It was his choice, and we are going to respect it, even when it hurts. So don’t take it out on them," Tyler added.

They wanted to protest so badly, but deep down, they knew what Tyler had said was true. But Bella was hitting Olivia just because she was connected to his death. She was doing it because of the hatred she had against her.

"We should bring them back to the infirmary... else they will die from blood loss." He said. His words were composed, but he was breaking inside.

’I guess I’ll have to wait. If they get to the infirmary, I’ll do what needs to be done,’ Diana thought inwardly. Her heart arched, but her resolve was clear. She wouldn’t let the bearer of chaos rise... not if she could stop it.
