Chapter 225: Begin the beast hunt

Two days passed in the blink of an eye, and everyone was busy getting their gear and equipment ready to protect themselves from the extreme cold.

While the government and military personnel marched toward the designated location with explosives and heavy firearms, Ethan, on the other hand, was preoccupied with helping his wife deal with her morning sickness.

It had been four months since Elena became pregnant, and her belly had grown noticeably larger.

According to Aunt Liza, she might be carrying twins. This possibility led to more preparations—and deeply worried Ethan.

"Wife, let’s go to Paradise Hospital for another checkup. You’ve been throwing up these past two days. If this keeps up, you might lose too much weight," he said, his voice full of concern as he handed her a glass of well water.

Fortunately, the well water helped ease some of her symptoms, but it couldn’t fully get rid of the morning sickness.

"Don’t worry, husband. This is pretty normal," she replied, wiping her mouth with tissue and continued.

"Let’s get ready to head to the designated area."

"The others already went there. We can exit through their location later, so take a moment to rest," Ethan replied gently, sitting next to her and caressing the belly.

He wanted to stop his wife from joining the beast hunt, but he knew how strong-willed she was.

Once she set her mind on something, she had to see it through.

Besides, she had promised only to lure the mutated cat and not fight, which gave Ethan some relief.

"Alright, let’s wait for their signal," she agreed, then returned to the sofa, taking a moment to gather her thoughts and prepare for the impending battle.

Preparations were essential; this mutated cat was far too dangerous to underestimate.

With a steely resolve, she vowed to deal with it today.

Once they arrived at the location, the military swiftly set up their equipment alongside the team assigned to bombard the mutated cat.

They brought an impressive array of missiles, and each soldier was ready to fire in rotation without holding back.

On the northern side, General Reid led the forces, with General Mason acting as his assistant.

Meanwhile, the DUP leader, General Kaiser, and Brother Elias were in charge of the western flank.

Well, many troops had been deployed for this operation to ensure its success.

"General, preparations are complete on both sides," a soldier reported, standing by for final orders.

"Hold your positions. Let’s wait for updates from the government and the Paradise staff," General Reid responded, his sharp eyes scanning the open field.

The chosen site was a vast ice plain, shimmering faintly under the dull gray sky.

The endless white was only broken by jagged ice formations scattered across the field.

Though ideal for the operation, the bitter cold pierced through their gear, making the soldiers shiver under the harsh conditions.

Soon after, a representative from the Paradise Shop arrived in each area.

On the northern side, Lydia and Daniel were tasked with monitoring the situation, while Jessa and Ramon were stationed on the western side.

However, Elena didn’t assign anyone to the government side.

Upon seeing them, General Reid saluted and asked for updates from their side.

"We’re still tracking the mutated cat, but please stay on alert any moment," Lydia reported.

Elena had instructed them to observe the officials first to make sure they were fully prepared before she lured the mutated cat in.

Truthfully, luring the creature was the easiest part. As long as Elena released her spiritual energy, it would be drawn to her immediately.

There might be other mutated beasts nearby, but with the cat’s dominant aura, they would most likely stay away.

That was why she wasn’t worried about being surrounded.

"Understood," General Reid said, then turned to contact the government side for their status update.

Using a walkie-talkie, a soldier reached out to the government line.

"We’re still setting up on the east side. The south is already in position," an official replied.

"Please provide an estimated time to finish," the soldier asked.

"Hold on," the official paused briefly before answering, "Five more minutes."

"Copy that."

On the government side, Dr. Cee held overall command.

Unbothered by the biting cold, he approached the operation with excitement, eager to collect samples from the mutated cat.

Beside him on the eastern flank was Troy, accompanied by several high-ranking officials, while a senior police officer took charge of the southern side.

The soldier then reported these updates to General Reid, who instructed him to pass the information along to General Kaiser.

Upon hearing the status, General Kaiser began preparing but couldn’t shake off his worry for Brother Elias.

The last time they had returned from the main base, they were ambushed by mutated beasts.

What if the mutated cat sensed Brother Elias and came after him again?

"Elias, do you think the mutated cat will come after you later?" he asked with concern.

Brother Elias chuckled, though he shared the same worry.

The shop owner had once told them that the mutated beasts were drawn to beings with pure spiritual energy.

As a vessel of that energy, he was certainly one of their favorite targets.

"Let’s ask the Paradise staff about it," he replied.

They then walked over to where Ramon and Jessa, were stationed and asked about their dilema.

"Comrade, how are things?" General Kaiser asked.

Ramon raised an eyebrow, curious about the general’s serious tone.

"We’re doing fine, General. Is something wrong?"

"Nothing serious. I just wanted to ask something about our current situation," the general replied with friendly smile, then shared his concern about Brother Elias and the mutated cat.

"Hold on a moment," Ramon said, then used his [Telepathy] to reach out to Elena.

"Mistress, General Kaiser wants to know about the Abbott situation," he communicated and relay General Kaiser inquiry.

"I suggest he stays far from the designated area. Otherwise, he’ll definitely be targeted. But as long as the mutated cat is distracted, he should be safe," Elena replied calmly.

"Understood. I’ll let him know, Mistress."

Ramon then passed on Elena’s message, prompting General Kaiser to order Brother Elias to move farther away from the operation site.

He instructed him to position himself at a safe distance and use a telescope to monitor the situation.

Once everything was in place, each side checked in through their communication devices.

"The eastern side is ready."

"The southern side is ready."

"The western side is ready."

"The northern side is ready."

Hearing all sides confirm, Lydia contacted Elena to signal the start of the operation.

Soon after, Elena arrived at the area where the mutated cat was last seen.

She released her spiritual energy, drawing it out from hiding.

Within two minutes, the mutated cat appeared—baring its sharp teeth, with saliva dripping from its mouth. It looked starved.

"Meow~~~"

It let out a loud hiss, catching the attention of those in the distance, then charged straight at Elena with full force.

But before it could reach her, Elena used her [Blink] skill to teleport, luring it toward the designated trap zone.

She had to use the skill three times before finally arriving near the battlefield.

There, she hid for a moment and contacted Oslo through [Telepathy], who was waiting inside a crater.

Elena and Ethan had prepared this small crater ahead of time.

It served as a blind spot, hidden from both the military and the government—giving her a chance to reappear at the battlefield’s center without revealing her teleportation skill.

Well, she didn’t want the government or military to learn about her skills, in case they grew suspicious or wary of her.

Confirming that Oslo was there, she then exited to his location and appeared beside him.

"Oslo, head into Paradise now," Elena instructed, continuing to release waves of spiritual energy.

She knew it was wasteful to use so much, but she didn’t care—this time, they had to kill that mutated cat for good.

Oslo nodded, shivering from the cold, then entered the space and quickly updated Ethan about the situation.

When everyone saw the mutated cat lunge toward a specific crater, they immediately alerted one another and got into position.

As planned, the Paradise Shop would trigger an explosion at the center of the battlefield to signal the start of the assault.

Just as the mutated cat crouched above the crater, ready to pounce, Elena smirked and raised her middle finger at it.

The beast leapt to bite her, but she swiftly tossed a grenade and then vanished the area.

Boom!

The loud explosion echoed across the icy field.

At once, both the military and government forces began firing missiles from all sides.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

"Fire! Don’t let it escape!"

Boom! Boom!

"Meoww~~~~"

The mutated cat howled, its screech echoing in pain as the missiles bombarded it mercilessly.

It tried to flee, realizing its target was no longer there, but just as it leapt out of the crater, another round of missiles struck, slamming it back down to the frozen ground.

When it finally came into full view, soldiers armed with heavy weapons opened fire, surrounding it from every direction.

Though the creature had incredible speed and stamina, the overwhelming firepower left it disoriented.

Still, it wasn’t easy to bring down—the mutated cat’s regeneration ability kicked in, quickly healing its wounds even as bullets and explosions tore through its flesh.
