Chapter 215: Late reaction

After Elena brought the kids back to the Animal Livestock Sector, she and Ethan teleported to the Eastern Lake pond.

Using her Golden Tablet, she dug several new ponds around the area, expanding the one they had already built.

The ground shifted and rippled with each command, forming perfect basins that were ready to be filled with marine livestock.

"With these, we’ll have more fish to sell," she said, as she replenished the spiritual energy taken from the Reserve Energy Tab.

"Wife, since we already have everything we need, aren’t you tempted to build your own base?" Ethan asked, genuinely curious about her next move.

"Not for now," Elena replied seriously.

She was carefully weighing her options for when things finally stabilised.

But she had no intention of building a base or becoming a leader—she was tired of that burden.

Instead, she dreamed of creating a merchant guild focused on producing all kinds of goods, allowing them to grow without the constant pressure of leading others.

In her past life, she and Ethan had built a base to fight against their enemies.

It had been draining.

They had to consider so many things—protecting their people, finding steady supplies, and always staying on guard against attacks.

She was done taking risks.

In this life, Elena wanted to take a more passive role—commanding from the background while supporting any base that fought for humanity’s survival.

Still, she wouldn’t back down from a battle if needed.

Their abilities were strong enough to hold off many enemies.

She still had unfinished business with the aliens, mutated beasts, and aggressive plants.

For her family and future children, she had to make the world livable.

"What do you mean, wife?" Ethan asked, sensing the firm resolve in her voice.

"Instead of building a base, I want to form a merchant guild. I don’t want to be a base leader—it’s too tiring. But I’ll make sure we hold enough influence so no one dares to bully us."

"If that’s your wish, wife, I support you," he said with a warm smile, wrapping his arms around her and gently caressing her belly.

"Thank you, husband. Let’s go. I’m done here."

With that, she teleported them back to their home, where they quickly got to work preparing lunch.

This time, Elena craved seafood, so Ethan chose to serve ready-made meals from their stock.

They enjoyed grilled salmon with lemon-dill sauce, sardines tossed with whole wheat pasta, and pan-seared trout topped with almonds and lemon.

There was also blackened catfish with coleslaw and garlic butter shrimp served over whole-grain pasta.

These delightful dishes came from the five-star restaurant they had bought long ago.

"Wife, what do you want to eat from these dishes?" Ethan asked, ready to serve her.

"I have hands; I can feed myself. You’ve been tired these past few days. Please take care of yourself, husband," Elena replied with a gentle smile.

"Wife, you’re so good to me," he said, touched by her thoughtfulness.

Elena chuckled. It was easy to make him happy.

She then started eating some of the dishes placed in front of her.

"By the way, the ’Paradise Home’ is already set up. The kids have started living there," Ethan mentioned.

"So fast? How many did Xander adopt?" she asked, curious.

"I don’t have the full details yet. How about we have a gathering tonight? It’s been a while since we all ate together."

"Sure, tell them later," she replied, just as she reached for the sardines. Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit her.

Stunned, she teleported to the bathroom and began to vomit.

"Urrggg... baby, isn’t it a bit late for this? Do you hate sardines?" she muttered, leaning over the sink.

Ethan, confused by her sudden disappearance, stood up and used [Telepathy] to reach her.

"Wife, where are you?" he asked, worry in his voice.

"Husband, I’m at the bathroom sink. Don’t ask," she replied shortly.

Realising something was wrong, Ethan rushed to the nearest bathroom.

When he opened the door, he saw Elena hunched over the sink, vomiting.

He froze for a moment before quickly walking over and handing her a glass of water.

"Wife, are you alright? Why are you vomiting? Should we go to the hospital?" he asked, a storm of questions racing through his mind as he checked her over.

"Wait, husband. I think it’s just a pregnancy reaction," she said, trying to calm him down.

"But isn’t it a bit late for that? You’re already three months pregnant," he replied, gently rubbing her back and holding her hair to keep it out of the way.

According to the books, reactions like this usually happened during the first trimester.

But since Elena had been drinking well water every day and hadn’t shown any symptoms until now, Ethan thought the worst had already passed.

"Maybe the baby just doesn’t like seafood," he joked softly. "Baby, don’t torture your mom, okay?" he added with a mock-stern tone.

Elena chuckled and sipped the water. "Why are you scolding the baby?"

"I’m not scolding, wife. I’m just reminding the baby to be good to you. Are you feeling better now?"

"I’m okay now. Let’s go back—I don’t feel like eating anymore."

"But you haven’t finished your food," he said, concerned.

"I’ll just eat some fruits instead," she replied, relieved.

Ethan didn’t press further and gently helped Elena to bed so she could rest.

After making sure she was comfortable, he contacted his aunt to let her know about Elena’s condition.

In response, his aunt reassured him that Elena was fine.

When he returned to their room, he lay beside Elena and then pulled her into his arms.

He feared she might have another nightmare.

For the past few months, she had been having troubling dreams, often waking up drenched in sweat.

Whenever he asked, she would brush it off, saying she forgot what the dreams were about.

But Ethan knew she was hiding something deeper.

He sighed and held her close, whispering soft words of love to their baby, careful not to wake her.

All he wanted was to give her peace and comfort, hoping it would ease whatever burden she was carrying.

Later that late afternoon, Ethan contacted everyone to arrange a gathering to talk about their progress and current situation.

Everyone agreed, happy to come together again and share updates.

They started preparing food around Elena’s house, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.
