Chapter 568: 533 Spirit Communication Unknown Continued
The two white souls seemed to want Little Bowl to ask more questions.
What special purpose does this behavior serve? I instinctively pondered. Although contemplating suspected abnormal entities might lack significance, I couldn’t help but think about the unusual events at hand. At the same time, their insistence on asking questions reminded me of the past Master of Divine Seal.
One side posed questions, the other provided answers; this process of information exchange was a ritualistic act that deepened mutual connections. In the past, Mazao, Zhu Shi, and Little Bowl had all asked me not to pose too many or overly large questions to the Master of Divine Seal. Such actions could further bind me to the Void Realm, ultimately rendering me a target for the Master of Divine Seal’s whims.
Do these two souls harbor such intentions? Are they another doomsday anomaly, poised to reveal some form of danger next?
Reason tells me it won’t unfold that way because I trust Little Bowl. Though she knows I possess extraordinary powers above doomsday anomalies and my love for fright and danger, she certainly wouldn’t tease and bait if what’s happening presented any real danger. In fact, I haven’t sensed any crisis.
Still, they exuded an unprecedented alien sensation. I’ve never encountered such souls.
Little Bowl didn’t pose more questions to the two white souls, adopting a conservative stance instead: "That’s all, thank you both, farewell."
Even then, they didn’t vanish. The soul who had delivered the map asked, "Are you enemies of the Tai Sui Army?"
"The Evangelical Institute is our enemy," Little Bowl said, "so we might become allies of the Tai Sui Army. Rest assured, you didn’t guide the enemies of the Tai Sui Army."
"...Is that so."
The soul’s expressionless face slightly relaxed, gaining a trace of humanity, "That’s good..."
With those words, his body of white light melted away like a snowball in hot water, dissolving into sparks before gradually fading away; the other soul nodded and vanished along with his companion.
Little Bowl exhaled lightly.
So, they didn’t retreat immediately due to worry about attracting enemies to the Tai Sui Army?
Why were they so eager to answer questions? Was it influenced by Little Bowl’s ability to communicate with all things, rather than stemming from spiritual issues? I initially thought they were replaced by indescribable entities, but now they seemed like the deceased themselves. It’s just that while catching that bizarre taste, it was hard to ignore. A feeling of being nowhere, both here and there, extremely contradictory.
With events concluding, I asked Little Bowl, "How did you do it?"
Little Bowl seemed prepared as she replied, "Brother Zhuang Cheng means... how I summoned and communicated with the souls that already vanished?"
"What happened just now, communicating with the souls of the deceased, seemed strange, right," I said.
"To be frank, I used powers to communicate with the souls of the deceased. Even the souls of these corpses on the ground have dissipated; that’s a fact," Little Bowl showed a complex expression, "So... I honestly don’t know what I was communicating with."
Did she really communicate with some indescribable entity just now?
"Is it really okay to engage with such obscurities?" I asked.
"Those ’souls’ should be harmless. At least, that’s how I feel," Little Bowl replied, "Of course, I know making harmless judgments about unknowns is questionable. Whenever I engage with these ’souls,’ I do feel nervous and limit my questions."
Despite her intelligence surpassing mine, she seemed to, like me, prioritize her mysterious intuition.
Understandably, in the abnormal world, especially in the Doomsday Era, relying heavily on logical thinking is risky because the land thrives on illogical anomalies.
Little Bowl continued, "But to explore the truth of the Doomsday Era, I’ve done this hundreds or even thousands of times, each without incident."
"Hundreds or thousands of times?" I was surprised, "Why push yourself so hard?"
If it were me, not hundreds or thousands, but tens of thousands of times, I’d do it. The truth of the Doomsday Era is at stake; it’s entirely acceptable to risk some dangers in the process. Perhaps being overly safe would be less thrilling for me. But Little Bowl doesn’t have such inclinations, right?
"Brother Zhuang Cheng and Sister Mazao are persistently investigating the Doomsday in the modern world, so I can’t slack off. Even if I only discover a little useful information, I’d like to help you both," Little Bowl stated matter-of-factly. "I was disheartened for a long time after the Void Realm’s destruction, thinking even if I discover anything, I might not be able to convey it to you.
"Although I thought I might reunite with Brother Zhuang Cheng through fate, I only imagined it after the Void Realm’s reconstruction, not realizing Brother Zhuang Cheng would enter this era on his own..."
She sighed deeply, looked at the map she recorded in her hand, and said, "Well then, let’s get moving, Brother Zhuang Cheng."
There was nothing else to do in this survivor gathering place. I nodded and moved alongside her.
"Oh, there’s one more thing I almost forgot to tell you..." Little Bowl turned to me, "Using my ’communication with the dead’ ability, not only did I try investigating the secrets of the Doomsday Era, but I also checked for information related to Zhu Shi and Zhu Jiu... especially tried verifying if Zhu Jiu is active in this Doomsday Era."
If the soul-loss patients’ souls have indeed traveled to the Doomsday Era, then we might encounter Zhu Shi’s mother—Zhu Jiu—in the Doomsday Era.
Especially since Little Bowl’s Power of Heaven and Earth was enhanced by Divine Seal Fragment, even in this chaotic and disorderly Doomsday Space-Time, finding targets should not be difficult.
The mysterious Three-Life Stone Powder could be pinpointed by her, so finding a person shouldn’t be challenging?
"What’s the result?" I asked.
Little Bowl gazed at me for a while and then said, "——I haven’t found a thing."
-
Little Bowl seemed to be hinting at something.
If she can’t find Zhu Jiu even with her powers in the Doomsday Era, two possibilities arise based on common sense: One, our hypothesis is incorrect, the soul-loss patients’ souls didn’t cross into the Doomsday Era, so Zhu Jiu wouldn’t be there;
Two, despite Zhu Jiu being in the Doomsday Era, she’s in a state where Little Bowl’s Power of Heaven and Earth can’t detect her.
Ordinarily, it should be the former, but Little Bowl appeared to harbor some lingering suspicion about this Doomsday Era’s time-space.
She didn’t directly express the form of her suspicion. She conducted various investigations of the Doomsday Era with her powers, amassing a plethora of information. During this process, she hasn’t yet advanced her work to analyze definitive results through intellect, but intuitively and instinctively, she might have vaguely glimpsed a conclusion.
Towards the hypothesis that "soul-loss patients’ souls traveled to the Doomsday Era," she seemed to emphasize it more than Mazao and I, so much so that she seemed to invest considerable effort in "searching for Zhu Jiu." Despite claiming her "communication with the dead" ability is risk-free, she wouldn’t repeatedly use this obscure channel without specific reasons.
Thus, maybe I should tentatively believe Zhu Jiu is in the Doomsday Era. Then why can’t Little Bowl find her? The second possibility being temporarily set aside, even if Zhu Jiu herself can’t be detected, she should leave traces or clues in the Doomsday Era for Little Bowl to track.
Squeeing from extreme hypotheses, even if Zhu Jiu arrived in the Doomsday Era and was promptly killed by passing anomalies, Little Bowl could track her remnant corpse and summon her "soul" for communication using spirit communication powers.
Admittedly, Little Bowl only knows Zhu Jiu’s name, never having seen her appearance, but this level of hindrance shouldn’t prevent Little Bowl from finding her. In the Void Realm, Little Bowl clearly senses the names of Zhu Shi and Zhu Jiu, enough to indicate a mysterious causal link between her and them. Just this invisible connection suffices for Little Bowl to distinguish her among the multitude.
Unless...
Unless, Little Bowl is Zhu Jiu, is Zhu Shi’s mother.
It’s like a person hunting for their phone around the room with it tucked in their pocket; unless they remember to check their pocket, they can’t find it even if they dismantle the whole room.
But... could such a thing be possible? Reasonable? My hypotheses are built on too many presuppositions, mostly imagination; should I really take this thought seriously?
I pondered my thoughts repeatedly, and after some time of moving, Little Bowl and I finally reached our destination.
The entrance to the Tai Sui Army’s base lay ahead.
