Chapter 347: 322 Great Success Mazao2
When looking at Mazao through physical vision, you would think she appears to be in very good health, alert eyes, skin fair and flushed, moving freely, showing no signs of illness or injury.
In contrast, perceiving Mazao with soul perception leads to a starkly opposite conclusion. Especially with my current perception, I can see more clearly than ever before—her body is covered in burns, barely a patch of unscathed skin to be found. Most of her wounds seem to have scabbed over, but in reality, those scabs are just a thin layer. It seems like they would crack and split apart with the slightest movement, and even while standing still, traces of blood and bodily fluids can be seen seeping through.
A moment’s distraction and this horrifying image disappears, and standing before me once again is Mazao, seemingly unscathed, as if what I saw was just an illusion. In reality, it wouldn’t be entirely incorrect to call that image an illusion—it’s the picture formed by my perception to convert the information received into a form that fits my accustomed sensory modality. Mazao’s own perception might not match mine. However, in terms of severity, it should be largely similar.
This is still the aftermath having taken a great amount of soul healing medicine provided by the Zhu family. Normal circumstances would deem such injuries fatal, but she’s being sustained by the Power of Return. The injuries when I first met her would have been even more distressing to witness. I didn’t shy away from the terrifying image, instead, I continued to focus intently on it.
For some unknown reason, as Mazao swallowed the Shen Gui Spirit Pill, the pill didn’t pass through the esophagus into the digestive system but mysteriously entered her soul. In the physical world, the pill’s existence seemed untraceable, while in the world of the soul, it rapidly disintegrated into a large amount of clear water, spraying out in all directions from within the soul.
The water didn’t spray aimlessly outward but was drawn back in as if her soul had its own gravitational pull. After its release, it automatically gathered inward creating a rapidly spinning vortex, cleansing the soul. Mazao herself closed her eyes as if she were submerged in water, carefully feeling the changes within herself.
"Blood" and "bodily fluids" were extracted from her soul, riddled with wounds, turning the clear water red. Then, the thin scabs washed away under the cleansing of the water. Wounds that were not covered by scabs quickly scabbed over and peeled off. Beneath the scabs, there was no longer bleeding wounds but new, white skin.
After a considerable time, all the injuries had disappeared from Mazao’s soul. The water stained red as if declaring a job well done, consciously diluted itself until it completely vanished. What now appeared in my soul’s vision was a young girl with flawlessly fair skin, newborn-like.
She exhaled a long breath of murky air, and after a long while, she finally slowly opened her eyes.
"—How do you feel?" I asked with concern, "Have you fully recovered?"
According to Water Navy Xuanwu, even with the Shen Gui Spirit Pill, it’s not possible to completely heal the wounds caused by the fires of Impermanence, at best it could only bring one infinitely close to being cured. Although the Doomsday Demon and the modern Impermanence are not exactly the same, they should be on the same level. And from my observation, it’s difficult to tell if there’s any part of Mazao that remains unhealed.
Water Navy Xuanwu wasn’t bragging; if he said it was infinitely close to being cured, then it truly was near perfection. Even with my current sight, I can’t find a single fault. Can this be called a cure?
Spiritual issues should perhaps still be approached with caution. Mazao is also slowly moving her hands and feet, as if confirming the state of her body.
Even for someone like her, who rarely shows intense emotions, there is an unmistakable sense of relaxation and joy in her voice: "I can’t feel any discomfort... I think, now I am indeed healed."
"Shall we conduct further tests?" I suggested.
"Okay."
She nodded, and then mana fluctuations erupted from her body.
Her attitude was nonchalant, but these mana fluctuations were powerful, like a sudden tidal wave, engulfing the entire inn in an instant and advancing towards a more distant destination.
It is hard to imagine that such a powerful fluctuation of mana is coming from Mazao, who would frequently become weak or even faint. Having gone through confrontations and interactions with Chen Long, Divine Spear, Fu Feng, Yinyue, and others of the Great Success Rank, I have gained sufficient understanding of this level. Now, I can judge that Mazao’s mana, without a doubt, belongs to the Great Success Rank.
This mana is clearly stronger than Chen Long’s, and even seemingly surpasses Divine Spear.
Mazao stepped forward, and from one person, she became two.
In this room, there were suddenly two Mazao, one who took a step forward and the other who remained in place. It’s as though two figures have been superimposed one behind the other, at first using a visual illusion to make me think there was only one, then revealing a division-like magic trick through movement.
However, this is no trick; her number had genuinely increased. She moved forward again, second step, third step... by the fourth step, she stopped, and there were already four more Mazao in the room.
With the original Mazao included, all five Mazao now emanated mana fluctuations of Great Success Rank.
"This is?" I asked curiously.
"This skill is similar to when we recreated the Black Mist Teleportation Door from history back at the monstrosity maker’s ’clinic’... I’ve summoned past versions of myself from history using the Power of Return."
All five Mazao spoke in a calm tone simultaneously, their voices overlapping and resonating together.
Then the other four Mazaos simultaneously ceased speaking, and only the original Mazao continued, "These four historical avatars possess the same capabilities as my original self, and I can summon even more if necessary."
"We’re not yet certain if the Shen Gui Spirit Pill has fully restored your soul. To be safe, better to have summoned this many," I said. "So... what do you plan to do next?"
"I intend to first restore order to Moon Concealing Mountain City."
As she finished speaking, the other four Mazaos disappeared on the spot.
This was Mazao’s Space Transfer ability. I tried to sense the whereabouts of the other four Mazaos. Although I hadn’t left thermal energy markers on those historical duplicates, for me now, extending my Perception to cover the entirety of Moon Concealing Mountain City, or even a whole large city, is as effortless as glancing down at a chess board on a table. And with just such a glance, I locked onto the positions of the four Mazaos.
They appeared at the northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest corners of Moon Concealing Mountain City. Waves of the Power of Return emanated from them. Simultaneously, the original Mazao standing before me in the center of the city also raised her palm, releasing the same waves.
The waves of the Power of Return from five Great Success Rank beings enveloped Moon Concealing Mountain City without leaving any gaps. The masses, who were lost amidst the tumult and chaos, seemed to receive a mystical signal and stopped their ongoing actions.
And all the damaged buildings and facilities as if rewinding time, returned to their original state in a matter of a few to several seconds.
Furthermore, I noted additional changes— even items that had been stolen and robbed from stores started to vanish from the perpetrators’ hands and returned to their rightful places.
Those injured in the turmoil also began to heal one by one. Some of the injured were unaware of the change, merely engrossed in the unbelievable transformations around them, while those who realized what had happened watched their own bodies in disbelief. Some even seemed to misunderstand, kneeling and praying towards the sky or the direction of Moon Concealing Mountain.
After all this was done, the Mazaos positioned at the four corners of Moon Concealing Mountain City simultaneously disappeared.
Meanwhile, the original Mazao in the room of the inn lowered her palm, her breathing and heartbeat remained stable, as if what she did was a trivial task.
"Fortunately, the chaos didn’t last long, it’s just that some people were injured, and no fatalities occurred yet, otherwise..." she said, relieved, "...it might have taken me much more effort to save them."
"You can bring people back from the dead?" I asked.
"As long as they’ve only died recently and their souls haven’t been damaged, I can bring them back," she responded.
Perhaps it was rare for her to show off her strength in my presence, a hint of pride crept onto Mazao’s face.
"So... why did everyone outside suddenly become calm?" I asked, "Did you rewind their memories, making them forget about what happened tonight? But that doesn’t seem to be the case..."
"I didn’t erase their memories of tonight, I simply reset their psychological state, helping them to return to their calmest demeanor," she explained. "Throughout one’s life, one experiences various psychological states, including times of utmost bravery, utmost cowardice, and even madness and evil...
"As long as they have ever been in such a state, I can revert them back to that state at any time and place. I could also keep them in a past psychological state indefinitely until my mana withdraws from their hearts.
"Right now, I’ve only made them temporarily enter a state of calm. I believe during this time, they will notice that the fog has lifted and will be able to process tonight’s events on their own."
