Chapter 254: 238 Traitors
"Is it really that simple to begin the interrogation?"
Due to Fufeng previously hinting that we would resort to cruel torture, I had mentally prepared myself. Since it turns out to be so simple to get cooperation from the senior researcher, why exhibit such an attitude?
Perhaps things aren’t that straightforward.
I glanced at Fufeng, and with a testing mindset, I posed a question to the senior researcher, "What’s with the armor you used earlier, and how did you bring it into the prison area?"
Although I’m not sure about the specifics of Fufeng Base’s prison area, it certainly isn’t a place where prisoners should be allowed to carry dangerous armor.
The senior researcher answered in a dreamy tone, honestly, "... That armor, named ’Impermanence Armor’, can be concealed when not in use."
"What?" Fufeng’s expression shifted slightly.
"The Impermanence Armor... Is that armor related to the Evil Sword of Luo Mountain?" I was surprised.
Dong Che suddenly realized and said, "I knew it! I felt mana fluctuations similar to those of the Evil Sword from that armor... It must be equipment newly developed based on the Evil Sword, or utilizing the Evil Sword forging technology."
"Is that so?" I asked the senior researcher.
The latter, still somewhat groggy, replied, "...Yes."
This would explain why the armor had a concealment feature. The Evil Sword itself can be concealed when not in use, and since the Impermanence Armor is a product of the same series, it makes sense that it can do the same.
However, it sounds like the Impermanence Armor is a product developed by Luo Mountain, so why is it in the hands of this Human Bureau researcher?
I tried asking this question, and the senior researcher answered again, "... It was stored in the secret base warehouse of the Human Bureau. During the destruction of the secret base, I used my authority to take it out of the warehouse and successfully escaped the ordeal with it."
Dong Che frowned and asked, "Was it plundered from the frontline when your Human Bureau previously clashed with Luo Mountain?"
Not knowing, or unable to answer, the senior researcher opened his mouth but said nothing, while Dong Che seemed to be thinking of more, his expression growing very unpleasant.
I was about to start asking for information related to Yinyue and Changan, but seeing the mood Dong Che was in, I grew curious and asked, "What are you thinking?"
Seemingly organizing his thoughts, Dong Che then said, "Senior Zhuang Cheng... I remember you’re from Outer Path Impermanence, so you should also have an Evil Sword, right?"
"Of course."
While responding, I summoned my own Outer Path Impermanence Sword. Even in a standalone reality space battle, this sword somewhat falls short of matching my level, not to mention in the real world. Nevertheless, I still cherish it, occasionally showing it off.
"The Evil Sword weaponry requires the infusion of mana to be utilized, meaning it is specifically meant for demon hunters," Dong Che said, "and yet this researcher, incapable of using mana, had previously used the Impermanence Armor, which is clearly an advanced creation from the Evil Sword. Logically, he should not be able to use it.
"Moreover, I’ve never heard of such an armor as the Impermanence Armor, and there have been no internal reports of Luo Mountain developing such equipment. Even if I’m uninformed, if Luo Mountain was really developing it secretly and it was captured by the Human Bureau, this weapon isn’t supposed to be designed for ordinary people’s use.
"Even if it’s just capable of amplifying a regular demon hunter’s power to an achieved level, most demon hunter families don’t possess such a talisman, let alone one that allows ordinary people to possess achieved level powers. Luo Mountain has no need to waste efforts developing new weapons toward this direction; it seems more like a line of development from the Human Bureau."
"Assuming this is a weapon developed by the Human Bureau... what’s the issue?" I asked.
"There’s a huge issue." This time it was Fufeng who spoke, "Despite the commonality of the Evil Sword in Luo Mountain, its technological principles are confidential within Luo Mountain, involving a very complex forging process with at least a hundred procedures, managed by different personnel from different departments. In other words, it’s the culmination of Luo Mountain’s technological prowess. Many demon hunters who spend their lives training certain spells to increase their combat power don’t gain as much efficiency as simply channeling mana into their Evil Sword.
"To prevent the leakage of the Evil Sword technology to some Fallen Demon Hunter groups, the complete technical details are only known to a few senior members and are bound by strict covenants that forbid the dissemination of this technical information. Without prior access to these details, it’s impossible to make improvements.
"I’m more inclined to believe this is a weapon developed internally by Luo Mountain which some how ended up in the hands of the Human Bureau. As to why it was made to be usable by ordinary people, I couldn’t tell you. Maybe the technicians found some interest in a project that we laymen can’t understand."
Dong Che, still uneasy, asked the senior researcher again, "How exactly did the Human Bureau acquire that thing?"
He was clearly suspecting that there were traitors among the upper ranks of Luo Mountain.
Coming from him, who is considered by many to be a potential traitor of Governance Ideology in the future, the suspicion was quite theatrical. Fufeng, however, did not continue to express any opinion, merely observing how the situation unfolded.
