Chapter 144: 138 Void Realm 5
"Why do you say that?" I realized what No.2 Bowl was referring to.
"When Mr. No.1 and I first entered the Mist Dream Realm, the giant was still awake. Shortly after the giant had introduced us to the Mist Dream Realm and fallen into a deep sleep, a colorless, shapeless ghost invaded this place." No.2 Bowl said, "This is just my intuition, but Mr. No.3 gives me a feeling very similar to that ghost. If I were to outline that ghost with a black paintbrush, the final appearance would be almost like Mr. No.3... That’s how I feel."
It was just a feeling?
To make such a precise judgment based on feelings alone was undoubtedly an extraordinary perception.
I, too, thought that the ghost she and No.1 spoke of was myself, but should I admit it? After weighing it up, I decided to take a step into the unknown.
Apart from an adventurous spirit, I inherently had a good impression of No.2 Bowl, a friend greatly valued by Mazao, and felt an urge to confess to her.
It was indeed ironic. Here I was, going to great lengths to hide and deceive Mazao, yet I felt compelled to confess to her friend, to this little girl. Even though I knew she could see through lies and I had the option to remain silent—which she likely would not probe further—perhaps it was because I had deceived Mazao that a certain indecipherable reactionary force compelled me to show sincerity to No.2 Bowl.
"Yes, it was me."
"But why, Mr. No.3, were you in that form at the time?" No.2 Bowl was even more puzzled.
"That wasn’t under my control."
Saying this, I briefly described my first encounter with the Divine Seal Fragment and my entry into the Mist Dream Realm.
"It sounds quite similar to what Mr. No.1 and I experienced, except for the part about turning into a ghost." No.2 Bowl pondered, "... Mr. No.3, you just mentioned that it took you a long time to arrive at the seating area through the mist... Could you tell me about that too?"
It seemed she had an idea. Seeing this, I went on to describe my second and this current experience in general terms, to see what conclusion she might draw.
After a moment, she seemed certain about something and then said, "Perhaps, this Mist Dream Realm is gradually locking onto you, just like it locked onto us, Mr. No.3."
"Locking on?" I was curious.
"Hmm, this is merely a personal conjecture..." she said, "The first time you entered the Mist Dream Realm, even your body couldn’t be brought in. It was the stage where the Mist Dream Realm’s rejection was the most severe. The second time, though your body was brought in, you were still expelled from the core area where the giant was, until you walked with others who were not rejected and managed to escape the loss.
"And the third time, this time, although you didn’t encounter anyone else along the way and took a lot of time on the route, you ultimately succeeded in reaching the core area by yourself."
"With the increase in the number of entries, the dream seems to be weakening its rejection of you, as if the Mist Dream Realm is gradually accepting your presence; or conversely, it could be said that you are gradually invading this dream.
"Although I don’t know why only you are so special, perhaps the next time, or the time after next, you might be able to pass through the mist effortlessly and enter the core area like us."
Listening to her, I also began to feel like things really were that way. This line of thinking might be correct and also aligned with my earlier feelings. To the Mist Dream Realm, I truly was a foreign element.
"Sorry, Mr. No.3, you trust me so much, yet I can only analyze this much." No.2 Bowl said apologetically.
"No, don’t worry, it’s because I provided too little information, and you have also helped me see parts I hadn’t seen before." I said.
Although young, No.2 Bowl seemed to possess greater intelligence and capabilities in dealing with people than Mazao. Perhaps in the past, No.2 Bowl wasn’t just under Mazao’s protection but also provided strategic support. One took care of scholarly matters, the other of martial, the two little girls struggling to survive in the ruins of the Doomsday Era. Such an incredible scene momentarily mesmerized me.
"Mr. No.3, I have an unkind request." No.2 Bowl said cautiously, "Since Sister Mazao is now with you, and the Divine Seal Fragment can pull its holder into the Mist Dream Realm... well..."
"You want me to lend her the Divine Seal Fragment so she can meet you in the dream?" I asked.
"Yeah, sorry, I just thought of (...)
She asked, puzzled, "What do you mean?"
I explained the information I had gathered from No.5, and No.2 pondered with a bowl, "No, I have no recollection. Most of my memories are still chaotic, and it takes time to sort them out. But that would explain a few things."
"What issues?" I asked.
"Although I in the dream realm can converse normally with you, No.3, my consciousness in the real world is lost due to Sin demonization. In a dangerous environment where who knows how many bizarre creatures lurk, it wouldn’t make sense for a little girl who has lost her sanity to survive not just for several days, but even several hours. Yet, I am still alive," she explained. "Perhaps the so-called power of the Divine Seal Fragment unconsciously used by me in the real world is what keeps me safe."
Mazao would be pleased to hear this. Since the power of the Divine Seal Fragment could protect No.2 even when she lost her sanity, it would undeniably be more effective once she was restored.
However, I might temporarily not know what exactly the power of the Divine Seal Fragment is; I could only wait for No.2 to enter the Mist Dream Realm again to tell me.
"By the way, little bowl, since you can discern lies, could you do me a favor?"
"No.3, you just say the word. As long as it’s within my power, I will do my utmost," she said seriously.
"This matter involves Mazao and me recently in the real world," I explained briefly, "we encountered a person who claims to be the Weirdo Maker..."
"Now, I suspect that No.1 might be Ying Lingyun, so I need your help to test whether he really is Ying Lingyun himself. Ying Lingyun is a top strategist within the Evil Organization and likely holds clues to the Doomsday, which is Mazao’s target. I won’t ask you to probe other details about No.1; merely confirming whether he is Ying Lingyun will suffice."
Considering that No.1 had shown her kindness, I didn’t want her to feel guilty, so I added a few more details.
But No.2 shook her head slightly and earnestly advised, "No.3, you are my life-saver and the most important partner of Sister Mazao. You don’t need to consider my feelings. I am willing to do whatever you ask of me."
Afterward, we exchanged some more information and then headed back. There’s no need to worry about getting lost in the gray fog, as No.2 was guiding the way. We soon returned to the seating area.
The scene at the venue had changed from when we had left; a new, unfamiliar visitor had arrived. It seemed to be a freshman; by convention, they would be called "No.6."
I could tell at first glance that this No.6 was very special.
He was burly and robust, reminiscent of an ancient general, standing there with a commanding presence.
More importantly, I sensed an immense force from him. While I couldn’t yet compare him to No.4 Xuanming, one thing was clear — he was on the same level as No.4 Xuanming.
In other words, he was also a force of Impermanence!
Was he Luo Mountain’s Impermanence? Or an "outsider Impermanence" from beyond Luo Mountain?
At that moment, he was confronting No.4 Xuanming. Both stood far apart on opposite ends of the field, silently staring at each other. Others, to avoid being collateral damage, kept their distance, silently observing their movements.
As No.2 and I stepped onto the field, No.6 suddenly turned his head, his sharp gaze piercing straight at me.
"Who might you be?" he asked defensively.
"I am No.3," I said.
"No.3? Hmph..." The temper of this potential Impermanence figure seemed quite poor, but he didn’t lose his temper on the spot and instead pointed at the giant next to him, "And him?"
"Zero," I said.
"Then you may as well call me No.6," he said before turning back to No.4 Xuanming, "Xuanming, don’t think I will let you go."
No.4 Xuanming seemed to ignore him completely, turning his head to continue observing the giant. No.6 seemed somewhat enraged and walked towards No.4 Xuanming.
I walked over to No.1 and asked, "What’s all this about?"
"Who knows. That No.6 just arrived, he recognized Xuanming right away and then they started this standoff," No.1 glanced at No.2 following behind me, then said to me, "You seem to have great power... I still find it hard to believe in the existence of the Doomsday Era, since you say you and she are from the same era, do you plan to protect her?"
"Doomsday Era?"
Hearing this conversation, No.6 suddenly stopped in his tracks, his gaze shifting back and forth between me and No.2.
