Chapter 122: 118 VS Weirdo Maker 6

The Weirdo Maker certainly wouldn’t take my advice.

No sooner had I spoken than he made another move. With a flap of his wings, he retreated swiftly, while swinging his arms, and once again, some dozen "possibility avatars" appeared from all directions. Up to now, he hadn’t struggled meaninglessly, so perhaps he had some kind of backup plan.

But I didn’t give him another chance to struggle. Instead, I ignited his body with my gaze and then transported myself through Flame Transmission to stand before him. With my right hand extended, I pressed down on the silver mask he wore on his face. The flames on his body, in turn, formed chain-like structures, binding him just as he had previously bound me with black chains. This time, my flames tightly wrapped around his entire body, preventing any movement.

At this moment, I was beginning to realize something. Perhaps his soul attack was neither a failure to launch nor lacking the power he boasted. In fact, it’s very likely that my Soul Defense was much sturdier than I had imagined. Whether it was because my soul was inherently robust, or my flames, as the vessel for my soul, provided extraordinary Soul Defense—or perhaps a combination of both—I didn’t know.

However, considering the current situation, it’s possible that I had experienced soul attacks before without realizing it. After all, if even a "soul attack that even a Super Demon Hunter couldn’t withstand" only caused me an itching sensation, then a regular soul attack might go completely unnoticed by me.

I wasn’t sure how a "Super Demon Hunter" compared to the "Impermanence" described by Zhu Shi, but if it were truly Impermanence, the Weirdo Maker surely wouldn’t believe he could control such a monster capable of destroying a nation single-handedly.

Moreover, although he treated me as the so-called "Super Demon Hunter," he did so under the assumption that I had no Soul Defense. This indicates that if his soul attack were actually used against a genuine Super Demon Hunter, it wouldn’t directly shatter their soul.

Even so, the fact that I remained completely unscathed after that strike obviously shocked the Weirdo Maker, and his retreat was clearly panic-stricken.

Retreating was the correct decision; it’s just that he wasn’t capable enough. The moment my palm touched him, the battle was over.

I closed my eyes.

Leveraging my previous exploration and the precise intelligence provided by Zhu Shi, my spiritual perception finally pierced through the last veil and touched upon his consciousness network.

It was like seeing a fog denser than darkness itself in the blackness after closing my eyes. The black fog condensed into numerous threads, forming an extensive network in the dark.

Each node on the network seemed to correspond to a "possibility avatar." The surrounding dozen or so "possibility avatars" were thus, and so was the Weirdo Maker in front of me. The difference with the latter as a node, though, was that he appeared to be multiple nodes intertwined, almost a lump of them on the network. It might be because he had merged many other avatars previously.

The network also seemed to have many additional threads connected to even more distant nodes, and there were quite a few of them. Clearly, he had "possibility avatars" active elsewhere. It was difficult to determine from the distribution of nodes in the metaphysical layer which real-world locations these additional nodes corresponded to; they could still be within Saltwater City or in other provinces and cities.

I should have been able to capture this consciousness network sooner, but sensing it was not like sensing the Shadow Swapping Monster through causality—this time, the process was more difficult and strenuous than I had expected. It seemed my spiritual perception was somewhat impeded, perhaps related to the black fog’s superpower-sealing property. But as for the results, it only took a little extra time.

His true essence must have been on this network. I couldn’t distinguish which node exactly, but according to Zhu Shi, I just needed to destroy the consciousness network itself. As for whether this would obliterate the Weirdo Maker himself and prevent us from collecting the "spoils of war"—there was a risk indeed, but I decided to temporarily ignore it.

The reasoning was simple, the power he displayed now was excessively strong. Despite my ease in dealing with him, if he were to confront Mazao and Zhu Shi, it would be just as easy for him as it was for me to deal with him. Therefore, I wasn’t inclined to let him go as I had with the Shadow Swapping Monster, thinking "letting him go for now wouldn’t matter." If I were to kill him, it had to be now.

Even without him, it didn’t mean the clues related to the apocalypse would be severed. We could still pursue the Human Bureau later, and with Mazao’s Broom Star Physique, there was no concern about finding clues about the Human Bureau.

Under my "gaze," the entire consciousness network suddenly burst into "flames."

Fire is a kind of substance, a lower-order existence; its appearance in the metaphysical plane is somewhat ambiguous in meaning. Regardless, the consciousness network was ignited by me, and it burned fiercely. It was as if I had thrown a torch into gasoline; for a moment, I could hardly sense the consciousness network itself, only the raging flames.
