Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies -
Chapter 440 440: First Test
Bai Meiyue was annoyed with his sobbing; she could feel her head hurt. However, upon seeing the man sobbing like he was really wounded by her words, Bai Meiyue sighed and said to him, "I don't hate you, Master Lei. And if I am being honest, I never thought of keeping Little Cai Cai's existence from you." She paused and added, "It would have taken some time, but I would have told you about him."
"Cai Cai?" Lei Qian asked with a frown.
"That's what I call him," Bai Meiyue told Lei Qian, who was staring at her as if he had never seen or heard anything like this before.
"Son… we are having a son?" Lei Qian asked. At that moment, he had no idea what he was feeling. He just knew that within his heart, he felt little explosions of happiness which were too hard to explain.
"That's right, we are having a son." Bai Meiyue nodded in response as she caressed her belly. Her eyes were filled with sparkles and stars as she said to him, "Do you want to touch him?"
"That—I…"
Lei Qian opened his mouth and looked at Bai Meiyue with a stupefied expression on his face. He didn't know why, but such a simple question was enough to make him speechless. He opened and closed his mouth but couldn't say a word. When Bai Meiyue saw that he was not moving, she reached out and placed his hand on her belly. The second Lei Qian touched her, he felt that her belly was too hard.
His mouth fell open. Because even if he could not see it, even if he could not feel it. Lei Qian couldn't help but wish to kick his past self in the head. The signs were so obvious, and yet he couldn't see even one of them. He couldn't believe that he was the same man who could come up with a solution to bankrupt a company in the past.
"I can't believe it… How come I didn't see—ah, what was that!?"
Lei Qian pulled his hand away from Bai Meiyue's belly when he felt something hit his palm. It was not that it was too painful, but it was still surprising.
He looked at his hand and then looked at Bai Meiyue's belly again. A sort of incredible feeling started to spread all over his heart and soul.
"Little Cai Cai seems to be excited to meet his father." Bai Meiyue lay down on the bed, her head hitting the pillow as she touched her pregnant belly with her hand and caressed it softly. The tenderness in her voice and face was quite obvious. She smiled at the man whose face was filled with awe and surprise before saying to him, "Go ahead. Say hello to him."
Lei Qian swallowed hard. He looked at his hand, which still held the lingering warmth. His gaze then fluttered to Bai Meiyue's belly as he softly cooed, "H…Hello, Lei Cai."
His voice was incoherent.
"Bai Cai, his name is Bai Xiao Cai," Bai Meiyue corrected him at once. She was the one who raised their son in her past life; she was the one who went to hell and back to give birth to their son. Why was he calling their son Lei Cai when he did nothing other than helping her get pregnant with Xiao Cai?
"It's Lei Cai!" Lei Qian raised his head and persistently spoke. "He is the heir of the Lei family. My son!"
He climbed up on the bed and, ignoring Bai Meiyue, pressed his face against her belly with his ear pressed right against the skin. In a soft voice, he called again, "Hi, Lei Xiao Cai."
It was quite clear that Xiao Cai had his father in his heart more than his mother. Because he moved again. As soon as Bai Meiyue felt her belly move, she heard Lei Qian sniffle and a second later, the man burst into tears once more. He pulled away and wiped his tears and the snot coming out of his nose.
"Why are you crying?" Bai Meiyue was speechless as she reached out to wipe away his tears. She said to him, "Did you not say that you were not crying? So why are you crying now?"
"I am not…" Lei Qian closed his eyes and shook his head as he continued to insist quietly that he was not crying. But the happy tears that were flowing down his cheeks were enough of a giveaway.
He quickly wiped his tears and then pressed his ear against Bai Meiyue's belly once again. "Hello, Xiao Cai."
However, this time around, the child didn't move, which made Lei Qian worried as he raised his head and looked at Bai Meiyue worriedly. "Why is the child not moving? What happened?" He looked rather anxious as he asked Bai Meiyue, "Should—should we call Shen Zhen? Wait here; I will call her."
Bai Meiyue reached out and held his wrist. She said to him, "There is no need to panic. He is too young and can't move around much. He is just resting and will wake up once he has rested enough."
"Oh, oh… then you should sleep too," Lei Qian said to Bai Meiyue while looking at her with concern. His hands were moving all over the place as he didn't know what to do or where to put his hands. After some thought, he helped her lie back down on the bed. He then lay down next to her and softly caressed her belly before saying to their son, "You should sleep well and let your mother sleep well too. Don't make trouble, okay, son?"
And even though Little Cai Cai didn't move when Lei Qian spoke to him, Bai Meiyue knew that his mere presence brought a sort of calmness in their hearts. Bai Meiyue's eyes turned red when she realised how much her son craved the presence and love of his father.
Just the voice of his father was enough to make Little Cai Cai this happy.
She wondered how much her son missed and craved the presence of his father. How much longing he might have held when it came to his father's absence?
