Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Soul Sight..
On the other side, in Liora’s villa, everything was peaceful.
Most of them had found a good spot to lie down. Their eyes could barely stay open after the endless wave of battles they had just survived. Mei had already fallen asleep not long after she finished healing everyone’s injuries. Her breathing was calm, her face pale but peaceful.
Everyone else was curled up in their own corner, quiet and drained.
Even Liora managed to find herself a slightly dusty couch near the corner of the room. It wasn’t comfortable, but it was dry and quiet, and that was enough.
Outside, the rain carried on. A slow, rhythmic sound that hit the windows and the broken tiles above them like a lullaby. It felt like the world was mourning with them, weeping endlessly for all that had been lost, albeit reality was far from it.
They had sealed the doors well. Nothing would come through.
Zhao Ren and Ji Ming had taken the turn to guard while the others slept. The two sat near the entrance, speaking in hushed voices so they wouldn’t wake the others—or worse, fall asleep themselves.
Other than those two... and Liora, everyone had fallen asleep. Just how tired they were... their bodies could no longer fight to stay awake.
Liora, on the other hand, only pretended to sleep.
Her body rested on the couch, her eyes half-lidded and her breaths steady, but in truth, she was fully awake. She was scrolling through her system panel, eyes quietly flicking across the flood of notifications.
After killing so many zombies tonight, she hadn’t gotten the chance to properly check them all. Now that she was finally still, her mind returned to the system that had helped her survive this long.
She opened the interface slowly, the soft glow from the translucent screen casting a faint light onto her tired face, even though she was the only one who could see it and the glow.
And just as she opened the panel, a new message popped up.
[Congratulations! Host has advanced to Level 4.]
Liora blinked. She was surprised, but not that much.
She had expected it. After all, she had killed more zombies in one night than she ever had before. If she had not advanced to a further level, then maybe the fault lies in the capabilities of the system.
The battlefield had been soaked in blood, and she had stood in the middle of it all. Still, seeing it written out made something in her stir. She couldn’t deny the slight satisfaction bubbling under her exhaustion.
She hurriedly swiped to open her full status screen.

She narrowed her eyes at the strength stat. It had already overflowed. Her muscles had been screaming all night, but now it made sense why. Her physical strength had risen far past the normal limits.
She still remembered the feeling of slicing through zombies, one after another. It was raw, brutal, bloody. But now... now she felt more stronger after killing them all.
Maybe... just strong enough to fully protect herself.
Her gaze drifted across the room. Everyone was resting, breathing peacefully for once. No screams. No blood. Just this moment of safety, even if it was temporary.
She leaned her head back against the couch and exhaled slowly.
After checking her status panel, Liora swiped to the next tab.
[Notifications]
Unread: 112
Her eyes twitched slightly.
"Tch... I really overdid it," she muttered under her breath, scrolling mindlessly.
A wave of notifications flooded the screen. One after another, they popped up with mechanical precision.
[killed x2 Level 3B Hunter Zombie – Reward: +25 EXP, +3 Stamina, +2 Agility]
[killed x4 Level 2C Mutated Zombie – Reward: +15 EXP, +1 Strength]
[Loot obtained: Canned Ration x2]
[Loot obtained: Basic Healing Potion x3]
[Loot obtained: Low-Grade Fuel Canister x1]
The list went on endlessly. Food. Potions. Spare parts. Survival points. It was clear the system had kept track of every move she made in that long battle.
Her fingers kept swiping downward as she scanned the messages. Most of them were minor stat increases or item drops, but even that was useful. They needed supplies badly.
Then suddenly, her hand stopped.
One message stood out among the rest.
[Congratulations! You have awakened an Inner Talent: Soul Sight]
Her eyes narrowed. The soft glow of the system screen reflected in her irises.
"...Soul Sight?"
She whispered it aloud. It didn’t sound like the other notifications. There was no EXP, no item, no reward beside it. It was just a single message.
Her heartbeat quickened slightly.
"What is this?" she asked quietly. "System, explain this."
A moment passed before the calm, familiar voice of the system echoed in her head.
[This talent was not granted by the system. It was awakened naturally by the host’s soul.]
Liora straightened on the couch. Her back stiffened. "Not granted...? Then where did it come from?"
[It is classified as a rare Inner Talent. The system has limited information about it. This power was born from within the host, not a result of mission rewards or external input.]
She frowned, staring hard at the line of text in front of her.
"Then what is it?"
[The system only knows a general description: Soul Sight allows the host to see the souls of others... and manipulate them. However, the extent of its influence, limitations, and true capabilities remain unknown.]
Liora was silent for a long moment.
To see... souls?
To manipulate them?
She had heard of strange powers awakening in the apocalypse—people who could bend metal, freeze the air, even move faster than bullets. But this... this was on an entirely another level. She had not heard something like this before.
She leaned forward slightly, lowering the brightness of her system screen as her gaze flicked around the room again. Everyone was still asleep. Zhao Ren and Ji Ming were still by the door, speaking softly.
Nothing had changed... and yet everything had.
"...How do I use it?" she asked under her breath.
