Chapter 64: Selling cup noodles
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Selling cup noodles
As Liora walked away, she focused on her real goal, and that was finding a way to sell the cup noodles from her factory. Letting them sit there was a waste. With 100 cups already produced, she needed to figure out a way to turn them into profit.
And she had to do it today. Tomorrow, they would be leaving for their new mission, and there was no telling when she would get another chance to sell the cup noodles. Then it would be truly a waste of a good opportunity. If she wanted to make use of her system and start building her influence, she needed to find buyers now.
Her time was limited, but she was not worried.
She would find a way.
Liora continued walking in the market and then stepped into the dim alleyway, glancing around to make sure no one was watching. She reached into her bag, pulling out a worn-out set of clothes that looked no different from what the older women in the base wore.
The fabric was faded and patched in multiple places, giving the impression that she was just another struggling citizen.
She quickly changed into the outfit, then took out a wig—dull brown, tied into a loose bun—and placed it on her head, ensuring that no strands of her natural red hair peeked through. A mask covered the lower half of her face, leaving only her tired, dirt-streaked eyes visible. Then, she smeared a bit of ash on her exposed skin, adding to the illusion of age and hardship.
With one last glance at her reflection in a broken mirror lying in the alley, she nodded in approval. This would definitely work.
No one would ever recognize her now.
She adjusted her posture, making herself appear slightly hunched, as if years of labor had taken their toll on her body. Then, with slow steps, she walked out of the alley, heading toward the marketplace.
When she reached the farthest edge of the market, where vendors with the cheapest goods set up their stalls, she found a relatively empty spot. Without hesitation, she knelt down and spread a tattered cloth on the ground. Carefully, she took out several cup noodles and arranged them neatly.
Taking a deep breath, she began shouting.
"Cup noodles! Fresh and tasty! Only 100 EUs per cup!"
Her voice rang out, carrying across the market. Nearby vendors turned to look at her, their eyes widening slightly at the price she set.
100 EUs per cup?
That was unbelievably cheap.
Most food items in the market were priced outrageously high. A small bottle of water cost 500 points. A single bag of rice could go for 250 points. Even the cheapest cup noodles, sold by another vendor, were priced at 300 points each.
Compared to those prices, Liora’s offer was practically a miracle.
At first, there was only mild interest, but then a few people hesitantly approached.
"Did she say 100 EUs?" a thin man whispered to his companion.
"That must be a mistake," another muttered. "No way it’s that cheap."
But then someone decided to take the risk. A frail-looking woman stepped forward, eyeing the noodles warily. "This is real, right?" she asked, her voice hoarse from hunger.
Liora nodded. "Completely real. Fresh stock."
The woman quickly handed over 100 EUs and took a cup. As soon as she opened it, she poured hot water into it from her steel bottle. Soon, the rich aroma of broth and seasoning wafted through the air. Her hands trembled as she took a bite. The moment the noodles touched her tongue, her expression shifted from skepticism to shock.
"It’s... it’s good!" she gasped.
That was all it took.
The moment those words left her mouth, the dam broke.
People rushed forward, their hunger outweighing their caution.
"Give me two!"
"I want five!"
"Please, I need one for my kid!"
The crowd swelled around her stall, pushing and shoving to get closer. Liora felt overwhelmed as desperate hands reached for the noodles, nearly toppling over her small setup.
"Oi, move back!" someone shouted, but the hungry mob paid no heed.
Just as Liora was about to be completely overrun, a young boy stepped in beside her. He had been selling power banks, torches, and other miscellaneous items at a nearby stand. Now, he positioned himself between her and the crowd, raising his hands to calm the chaos.
"Relax, people! There’s enough for everyone!" he said firmly. His voice carried a certain warmth, and surprisingly, the crowd listened.
"Form a line!" he continued. "If you push, no one’s getting anything!"
Slowly, the situation stabilized. Liora shot the boy a look of gratitude.
"Don’t worry, Aunty," he said with a grin. "I’ll help you."
Liora twitched. Aunty?
She wanted to smack him but held back. It’s not his fault. I really do look like an aunty right now.
With the boy’s help, the sales went smoother. One by one, the noodles disappeared from her stall. Within minutes, she had sold 90 cups. She could have sold more, but she purposely held back.
When the last cup was taken, she raised her hands. "That’s it! I’m out of stock!"
The remaining people groaned in disappointment. Some had arrived too late, their faces filled with regret. Even Zhou Yinuo, Chen Wei, and Liang Zihan were among them.
"What a waste," Zhou Yinuo muttered. "I can’t believe we came late."
They left, dejected, murmuring about how unfair life was.
As the disappointed crowd dispersed, Liora turned to the boy who had helped her. He was already packing up his small stall. She reached into her bag and pulled out two cup noodles, offering them to him.
"Here," she said.
The boy blinked, surprised. "Oh, no. I can’t take this. I just helped a little."
Liora shoved them into his hands. "Take it. You earned it."
He hesitated, then smiled. "Thanks, Aunty!"
Liora clenched her teeth but forced a smile. One day, I’ll pay you back for calling me that.
She stored her remaining things and quietly slipped back into the alleyway, disappearing just as quickly as she had appeared.
