Chapter 195: Chapter 195 : Secrets That Should Not Be Known (03)
The room was quiet, but Liora’s mind wasn’t.
She sat across from Atlas, her knees pulled slightly together as she rested her hands on her lap. Her fingers twitched unconsciously, almost like they were responding to her inner turmoil.
"I’ve thought about it again and again," Atlas said, rubbing the back of his neck and then folding his arms as he leaned back against the wall. "But nothing seems to work. No matter how I try to approach this, he’s always one step ahead."
Liora looked at him quietly. The silence between them stretched longer than it should have, but it was not uncomfortable. It was heavy.
"He’s not from this planet," Atlas finally added. His voice dropped lower, as if even the walls had ears. "Kazren is from the Spire and I am also."
Liora’s eye suddenly snapped towards him. She knew that Kazren must be from another high-tech planet, and maybe Atlas too. Because both of them have the knowledge that no people on their planet have. But she never thought that they were actually from the Spire... they are part of the most advanced civilization. That point alone was enough to make anyone’s jaw drop.
Liora’s lips parted, but no words came. She could only blink slowly.
Atlas continued, "He’s a wanted criminal. Not just wanted or blacklisted. Bounty on his name, restricted access across five systems. Do you know what that means, Liora? Even the Spire wants nothing to do with him. And yet... he’s here."
Her heart skipped a beat. How could she carelessly attract the attention of a criminal, and not just a simple criminal but a most wanted one? Liora felt like crying, but she did not even have tears... now if she thought carefully, if not for Atlas’s appearance, she would not have even known how she died today... her entire effort, struggle, and pain would be in vain, when she actually died without even surviving a year...
Tasting death once, she did not plan to taste it another time, and who knows whether that broken system would be able to revive her back or not.
Atlas looked toward the side, as if something else had caught his attention. "Come," he said simply.
Without waiting for her response, he pressed his palm on a smooth circular panel. A door slid open with a faint sound. Liora followed him through the archway. The air changed slightly as they stepped into a wider hallway, the ceiling above glowing faintly blue. The sensation was strange—like she was walking on air, yet everything remained solid beneath her boots.
They stopped in front of a large window.
And then she saw it.
Her breath caught in her throat. And she did not know how she recognized it at a glance, but she knew her assumptions were right, and Atlas’s nod confirmed it further.
There it was, the planet. The one she had been fighting on, bleeding on, running across. But from here, it looked so small. So distant. The clouds curled gently around the edge of the world.
The surface shimmered with green patches and golden plains, broken only by a line of mountain ridges. And there was the soft curve of oceans... glowing faintly under the reflection of the twin suns.
Liora stepped forward. Her hand almost lifted to touch the glass but paused in the air. And she noticed another important thing—that the planet was actually shrouded in a strange dark mist like a blanket of cloud... it must be the reason in the world they could not see the sky properly and it always looked gloomy.
"So this is it," she whispered.
She had never imagined this moment. Never even dreamed of it. A girl like her, who once scavenged through ruins for survival, now standing above a planet—looking down on it like some kind of god.
Words abandoned her. Emotions tangled inside her chest. Her eyes watered slightly, but she didn’t blink them away.
"It’s beautiful," she said after a long while. Even though it was shrouded in a strange mist.
Atlas glanced sideways at her and gave a faint smile.
"This isn’t just a house, by the way," he said as he turned and walked further into the corridor. "It’s a spaceship house. Modified and fully functional. I built most of it myself."
Liora turned to him with wide eyes. "You... built this?"
He nodded. "It can hover, cloak, fly through space, even jump through rift gates. You’re standing inside a capsule that can outfly a battle warship."
Her jaw dropped slightly. "Why do you even have something like this?"
Atlas gave her a look that almost looked like a smirk. "Because I hate boring stuff."
Liora’s expression changed once again at his answer, but she followed him without any opinions. She followed him through another corridor, silent again. Her footsteps were slow, almost cautious.
They entered a quiet chamber. The lights here were soft and warm, unlike the bluish corridors. It was a cozy room, almost like a child’s bedroom. And in the middle, lying peacefully on a floating bed, was Eli.
Liora stopped in her tracks.
"Eli?" she whispered, eyes widening. She moved closer, staring at his sleeping face.
He looked peaceful, his breaths slow and calm, unlike the usual restless kid who would climb trees and race through the base like a storm.
"I thought..." she trailed off. "I thought he was with the others. It’s not the first time he disappeared for a few days."
Atlas nodded. "He’s been here."
Liora looked at him with quiet confusion.
"He’ll stay with me for a few more days," Atlas said gently. "It’s safer for him here."
Liora nodded slowly. She didn’t question it. If it was Atlas saying it, then it must be important.
Atlas’s expression grew serious. "Liora, the first thing you need to do is secure your base. Strengthen every wall, reinforce your guard, upgrade yourself. Stay alert."
Liora listened closely.
"Lay low. Don’t reveal anything about the stars, or the Spire, or this ship," he continued. "Don’t speak about Kazren to anyone outside your circle. Even within, speak as little as possible, or maybe just avoid it."
"I understand," Liora nodded firmly.
"And," Atlas added, "I will try to divert his attention. If I can find anything solid, I’ll report him to the Spire. He’s breaking intergalactic law by growing unauthorized crops on a developing planet."
Liora blinked. "You mean... the fields?"
Atlas nodded. "Yes. It’s illegal to introduce Spire-modified seeds on planets like this without clearance. If I can gather enough evidence, that alone could get him banned or hunted down again."
She understood now. Atlas wasn’t just trying to protect her. He was playing a game of strategy. Delaying Kazren. Watching him. Setting a trap that could take time, but if it worked, they might have a chance.
Liora’s head bobbed like a little chick. "I understand."
But it wasn’t just understanding. It was trust.
Because right now, Atlas was all she had.
