Apocalypse: Transmigrated with an Overlord System -
Chapter 160: Real Hope
Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Real Hope
The people standing in front of the door held their breath together and slowly walked deeper into the base. At first, they only encountered land without any sign of life, but after some time, they finally spotted new buildings, which were very beautiful and new.
The wide and clean streets were lined with neatly arranged modern buildings on both sides. The walls were silver-gray with a metallic cold light, and most importantly, all of the floor was brightly lit, just like before the apocalypse.
"Oh my god..." someone murmured, as if in a dream, "Is this... really electricity?"
The survivors who just walked in were like children from the countryside who came to the city. They couldn’t see everything. Some of them looked up at the buildings in a daze, and some of them didn’t even dare to take a step, as if they were afraid that a step would shatter this dream.
And just at this moment, the survivors who arrived last night came out. They were wearing clean clothes, and their faces had a relaxed look that was obviously after taking a hot bath. Some of them were biting on noodles bought from convenience stores, with a satisfied look on their faces.
"Hey, are you new here too?" A young man in his twenties greeted with a smile, his voice was friendly.
"We came here yesterday and were also confused. Fortunately, there is an AI guidance system in the base. We took some detours, but we finally got familiar with it."
"Go to the management office to register!" An elderly aunt said enthusiastically. "After registering, you can apply for temporary accommodation and then go shopping at convenience stores with your ID number, and there are hot showers, really! There is everything here!"
"There are robot receptions and self-service terminals in the management office, all automated. Don’t worry about not knowing how to operate. We can also help you."
Many people were stunned for a while by such a warm welcome, but they were quickly brought back to reality by this concern and order.
"Register first!" "Hurry up and register!" "I don’t want to sleep on the streets!" "There are beds, hot showers, and food, who wants to miss it!"
For a moment, the crowd that was originally stunned by the shock suddenly became active and almost swarmed towards the management office.
Even Chen Wei and Zhao Ren, who had been calm, quickened their pace and followed the crowd.
Ji Ming, Yun Shou, and Liang Zihan were the first to rush out, without even saying "wait for me."
"Hey, don’t run so fast!" Zhou Yinuo shouted from behind but followed closely.
Liora, Mei, Yan Lin, Xu Kai, and Yang Ming were also behind them. Liora could not help but her eyes curved with happiness, while Xu Kai slightly had some emotions in his eyes as he looked at the buildings and the not-far management hall that was brightly lit.
There were more than 60 survivors who arrived this time, and there were only ten dormitories open at the base. Each floor and structure was slightly different:
Three four-story dormitory buildings, each with four double dormitories, can accommodate a total of 96 people;
Three buildings are also three-story structures, barely accommodating about 72 people;
Four buildings are two-story buildings, which can accommodate a total of more than 30 people;
In addition, there are three renovated buildings, which are the spare residences she left for herself and her friends.
The four-story one can be taken by Zhao Ren and his group, and another two-story one can be taken by her and her group, and the other two-story... Ahm! If he likes, he could take one... Liora thought while eyeing Xu Kai curiously.
In this orderly base, time seems to have become more spacious. It could accommodate at least 200 people, while the people currently in the base are only near 100.
After the registration process was completed, most survivors stayed near the management hall or wandered about the streets in amazement, not knowing what to do next. But Liora quickly pulled her group aside and said with a small smile, "We don’t need to apply for dormitories."
Everyone looked at her in confusion.
"I already asked Atlas for help earlier," Liora said, rubbing the back of her neck with a sheepish expression. "I’ve booked three of the renovated buildings for us. They’re small villas actually. Not too fancy, but... they’re ours."
For a second, no one said anything. Then their eyes began to shine.
"You what?!" Mei gasped.
"Did you just say small villas? Not dorms?" Yan Lin blinked, stunned.
Liora nodded and waved her hand. "Come on. Let’s go check them out. They’re not far."
In an instant, the group erupted into cheers and laughter, their exhaustion temporarily forgotten. Ji Ming was the first to take off running, shouting, "Last one there gets no room!"
"Not fair! You cheated!" Yun Shou chased after him.
"Wait for me!" Zhou Yinuo shouted again, her voice fading as she sprinted to catch up.
Liora walked with Xu Kai at the back. She glanced at him from the corner of her eye. "You can take the last two-story one if you like," she said casually.
Xu Kai paused and looked at her, then turned his gaze toward the nearby buildings. "I’ll take a look."
As they approached, the group slowed down, their eyes wide. The three buildings stood neatly in a quiet corner of the base. They weren’t extravagant, but they looked sturdy and clean. The exterior walls were soft gray with white trims. A short metal fence surrounded each house.
Inside, the villas were cozy and neatly arranged. Every floor had been fully furnished. Each villa had a small kitchen, living room, and three separate bedrooms with soft beds and storage. The bathroom had running hot water and a simple but modern shower. Basic appliances were also installed: a mini-fridge, induction cooker, a washing machine, and even a small air conditioner.
"It’s warm inside!" Liang Zihan called out as he stepped in and jumped on a couch.
"This one’s mine!" Mei rushed into a bedroom and fell face-first into the bed.
"Can we really stay here? Like really?" Yan Lin whispered as she opened a cabinet and found clean folded towels and dishes.
"This doesn’t feel like the apocalypse at all," Yang Ming said, touching the glass window as the automatic shutters quietly adjusted to the sunlight.
