Chapter 124: Chapter 124: The Man Who Knew

Atlas’s voice suddenly turned serious as he stared into her eyes, his blue eyes swirling with emotions so intense that even Liora found them hard to describe. His gaze didn’t waver, piercing straight into her. It felt like he was trying to say something more—but couldn’t.

Why did he suddenly look so serious? And for a second, why did she see sorrow in his eyes? Her breath hitched. She couldn’t even tell if she imagined it. But just as quickly as it came, it vanished—gone without a trace.

The man calmly pinched the tip of her sword with his bare fingers and pushed it away from his neck, barely using any strength.

Liora’s breath caught in her throat. She had been holding that sword with everything she had, her arms aching from the tension, her stance locked into place. Yet he moved it like it was a mere branch in his way.

With a simple tug, the sword was ripped from her hands.

Atlas looked at the weapon with disgust. "If you fought using this, I’m sure... you wouldn’t last even a second. Can you imagine how embarrassing that would be for us? I wouldn’t even be able to show my face."

He didn’t even glance at her as he said it, holding the weapon between two fingers like it was something filthy.

Liora’s anger instantly flared as the bastard tossed her sword aside like it was a worthless toy.

Her mouth dropped open in disbelief. That sword had seen her through every fight since the beginning. It wasn’t just a weapon—it was her lifeline. How dare he?

That was her only high-level weapon! How dare he throw it away! Her heart sank when the sword actually snapped in two upon hitting the ground.

A sharp gasp escaped her lips. Her hand instinctively reached out, even though the pieces were far out of reach now.

Even she was shocked—was it really that weak? He hadn’t even applied any pressure. He had just tossed it aside like trash, yet she had always found it quite strong.

Her gaze flicked from the broken blade to his unreadable face, then back again.

"Don’t look at that like a fool. I don’t have much time to waste on you... so be grateful I came here. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even know how you died."

He took a step closer as he spoke, and instinctively, Liora took one back. His presence was overbearing, his aura almost suffocating. It wasn’t just arrogance—there was something terrifyingly real behind his words.

"What the hell are you? And why do you act like you have all the answers?" Liora snapped back. "I didn’t even ask you to come!"

But her voice faded as a bold thought crossed her mind. Her breathing slowed. She looked at him more carefully this time.

Why was this man, instead of acting like a total jerk, pointing out her mistakes? Why was he calling her weak... and why did it feel like, hidden beneath his harsh voice, there was a strange warmth?

His insults hadn’t felt entirely like mockery. It was like he was... disappointed.

Could he be someone the original body knew? Maybe... a family member? It didn’t seem impossible. He seemed oddly familiar with her. His tone didn’t sound like he was talking to a stranger.

The way he looked at her—it wasn’t the gaze of someone meeting her for the first time.

The more she thought about it, the more it made sense. The only problem was that she didn’t have the original host’s memories to confirm whether her bold guess was true or not.

"This is the best place to practice your ability. If you want to become stronger, then you have to survive here. Opportunities like this don’t come easily—grab it while you can." Atlas’s arrogant tone was gone, replaced with the firm voice of a strict elder.

He folded his arms as he said it, watching her reaction carefully. His expression hardened with the weight of experience.

Yet despite everything, Liora didn’t find his words wrong.

She stood still, eyes lowered, lips pressed into a thin line. Her knuckles were white from how tightly she was clenching her fists.

But trusting him was still hard. How could she trust a stranger, even if he was talking about her well-being? What if it was all a trap?

Her heart pounded in her chest. Logic screamed at her not to believe him, not to fall for any of it.

She might have believed him if she weren’t stuck in a dangerous place and completely alone. Even her system was shut down, and the one responsible was none other than the man standing before her.

Could she really trust him just like that?

She bit her bottom lip, her brows furrowed in frustration.

But... looking at her current situation, did she even have any other option? Liora doubted it.

"If you’d used that useless mind of yours to level up, you wouldn’t be stuck at this pathetic low level. Even awakening your ability this late is disgraceful," he sneered again.

He let out a mocking sigh and shook his head like she was some lost cause. His words stung—but worse than the tone was the truth buried in them.

Liora was speechless. She wanted to cry again. Just who was this man? A Buddha? A ghost?

She couldn’t take her eyes off him. How did he know so much? Why did it feel like he had been watching her from the start?

He even knew about her ability—something she had never told anyone. Was there anything he didn’t know?

"You... you... how do you know?" Liora could only point at him with a dumbfounded expression.

Her hand trembled slightly, and her mouth opened like she wanted to say more—but no words came.

"Is there anything you don’t know?" she muttered, eyes full of grievance.

"You don’t need to know who I am," he said coldly. "You’ll find out eventually. But first, become stronger. Your real enemies aren’t these mindless zombies. There are far more dangerous things out there."

He leaned closer and whispered in a low, dangerous tone that sent goosebumps down her arms.

"Things that won’t give you a second chance."

Before she could ask more, the man suddenly stepped back and grabbed the silent Eli’s hand.

Liora’s eyes widened with confusion. She wanted to stop him from taking Eli away with him, but it was too late. Still, she let out a sigh of relief—at least Eli didn’t look uncomfortable with him, and if she was right, they knew each other beforehand.

Then, just like that, he vanished from the spot.

A book flew toward her, and she instinctively caught it, her arms reacting faster than her mind.

Her hands tightened around the leather cover, her heart racing, her thoughts tangled in a thousand questions that had no answers—yet.

Liora slowly lowered her arms, still dazed. Her fingers curled around the book’s worn cover as she stared down at it. It looked old and ordinary at first—almost too plain to be important. But as the dust cleared and her gaze adjusted, she spotted something etched faintly into the leather near the bottom edge. Her breath hitched as she read the engraved words:

"I can see souls."
