Chapter 121: Everyone leveled up
Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Everyone leveled up
In the few moments before they reached the hospital, just as the grey structure emerged through the ruined buildings and stories, it hadn’t been long ago that they were just a band of survivors—scraped together by chance and stubbornness to live and survive.
But now, the difference in them was undeniable. The nights spent resting in the small house had not been peaceful, but they had been crucial.
In those days, every one of them had consumed crystals until their minds had become numbed and refused to absorb another one.
Zhao Ren had broken through to level seven, his metal ability now bending and shaping at his will with frightening speed and precision. The texture and hardness of his metal had increased by leaps and bounds. It would not even break if you tried to cut level seven zombies. And he could create metal from nowhere within seconds. The speed had increased in that area too.
Chen Wei’s speed had grown sharper too. At level six, he blurred when he moved, faster than the eye could track. If people didn’t know, they would think he had awakened teleportation rather than a speed ability. His reflexes and senses could beat a level seven zombie easily, and the higher-level zombies’ speed was nothing in comparison to him.
Shen Haoran had pushed his fire ability to level six. His flames no longer died after continuous fights. And it seemed even if he fought for hours, they would only roar with bright intensity.
He could coat his body in heat, summon fire from a single snap of his fingers, and reduce walls to ash if he didn’t hold back.
Yun Shou stood not far behind, having reached level five with his electric ability. Sparks snapped and crackled along his fingertips even when he stood still, a visible display of the raw voltage he now commanded.
His body acted like a living capacitor, charging and discharging currents with terrifying precision. At this level, the voltage had spiked beyond 50,000 volts—easily enough to arc through the air and leap across several meters.
The current, once a harmless static shock, had risen to over 5 amperes during discharge, more than enough to induce cardiac arrest in a human or incinerate a zombie’s nervous system within seconds.
Yan Lin, with her dual affinities, had made leaps that stunned them all. Her water ability was now at level five, her control sharp and elegant like flowing blades. But more surprising was her plant ability, which had jumped to level three. Tiny sprouts curled beneath her feet when she walked now, and vines responded to her presence without command.
Liang Zihan had stepped into level three with his earth ability. Though still one of the new fighters, his control was solid. He could manipulate stone and soil steadily, could crush zombies with a massive boulder at once, or even dig the ground in seconds to hurt live zombies.
Zhou Yinuo, with her wind ability, had reached level four. She could summon gusts sharp enough to cut and strong enough to lift her into the air. Her movements had grown graceful and fierce, like a dancer caught in a storm.
Ji Ming also had leveled his space ability to six. But he had to increase his command over his weapon. In the house, he could only practice, but now the real time had come to take action.
Mei also had pushed her healing to level five. Her touch now sealed wounds within seconds, and her aura alone could soothe pain and slow bleeding.
And Liora? She didn’t speak of her progress. She had always kept her power close to her chest, but the others knew she had grown too. There was a drastic change in her aura that was screaming danger.
Ji Ming looked at her but couldn’t help it. They had the same space ability that could store things, but why were both of them very different when he was still struggling and trying to kill higher-level zombies, while she could swiftly slash their heads in one move?
All of them stood outside the hospital like soldiers ready for war.
The building loomed over them, its glass long shattered, its walls cracked and rotting with time. The ivy that crawled up its pillars seemed like the only thing keeping it from collapsing completely.
Yet for them, it was not just a hospital anymore. It was a battleground to test their abilities and increase their powers.
"We split up," Liora said, her voice clear and firm as she scanned the group. "Everyone pick a floor. Clear it. Get every crystal you can. No holding back. If we all walk together, it means simply fewer crystals and more time wasted."
Everyone nodded at her words. She was right. If they all went together, it would simply waste their time, and the amount of harvested crystals would decrease, and most importantly, they would not be able to unleash their potential in full.
They had decided that whoever was in danger would fire at the opposite building’s glass to alert everyone that they were in danger.
Ji Ming nodded and flicked his fingers. A ripple shimmered around him as he summoned a silver cube from his spatial ring and tucked it back in. "I’ll take the third floor. Looks stable enough."
Zhao Ren cracked his knuckles with a grin. "Seventh floor’s mine. Let’s see what kind of junk is hiding up top."
Shen Haoran, quiet but always reliable, raised a brow. "Sixth. Don’t slow me down." A flicker of fire coiled behind his back, like it couldn’t wait to be unleashed.
Yun Shou and Yan Lin shared a look, then chose the fifth floor together. With electric sparks dancing on one hand and water swirling gently on the other, they nodded in sync and disappeared inside without another word.
Mei whispered something to Ji Ming before choosing the third floor. She decided to tag along with Ji Ming. Her healing power was strong, but she knew she had to learn to fight too. She gave Liora a firm look before going in.
The last trio, Chen Wei, Liang Zihan, and Zhou Yinuo, stood near the entrance. Chen Wei glanced at his companions and nodded. "We’ll handle the first floor. I’ll keep them safe."
Liang Zihan and Zhou Yinuo were doing well but still not strong enough to fight a level four or five zombie alone. Others could handle it because they were at a higher level. So they decided to tag along with Chen Wei.
Liora respected that.
She waited until the others had filed inside and then turned away, ready to head for the fourth floor on her own.
"I’ll take the fourth," she announced. "Alone."
