Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Damn! You’re a lot cuter in person.
She couldn’t keep relying on chance.
This world was brutal, and it wasn’t going to slow down for her to catch up. There would always be stronger monsters. Stronger enemies. And more people to protect.
She clenched her fists.
"I need to control it," she whispered to herself. "No more lucky saves."
She needed to learn how to use the soul realm—not just sucking soul. She needed to figure out how to fight with those shadows, not just pray that they’d appear when she was half-dead.
Because next time, she might not be lucky. And there might be no one left to heal her.
Liora looked up at the ceiling. The cracks on it reminded her of scars. They ran across the wood like silent stories of survival. Just like her.
It wasn’t a fantasy world where heroes came to save the day. It was cruel and real. And the only thing standing between her and death... was her own strength.
She would get stronger. She had to. There was no other way.
And so, as the rest of the house slept in fragile peace, Liora sat awake in the dark, her heart quiet but determined. Her resolve had never been clearer.
Tomorrow, she would start learning how to control the souls. With that thought, sleep finally took over her as Liora felt, with her resolve, a big burden coming off from her chest.
The morning came slower than usual, gray light filtering through the cracked window as the cold wind whispered through gaps in the wood. The house was still quiet, filled with the muffled sounds of breathing and the occasional creak of shifting floorboards.
Liora sat up groggily, her body still heavy from the night before. The faint scent of old wood and dust filled her nose. For a moment, everything felt normal—or at least, what passed for normal in this ruined world.
Until she stepped out of the room.
Her brows furrowed instantly. Someone new was in the house.
He was sprawled across the couch like he owned the place, one arm slung over the backrest, the other lazily holding a can of juice he was sipping from as if this were a vacation home and not a warzone.
His snow-white hair fell in loose waves around his face, messy but almost too perfectly messy. He wore a black jacket that hung open at the collar, revealing a shirt beneath that clung just a little too well to a lean, muscled frame.
He was, in every sense of the word, annoyingly handsome. The kind of man who looked like he’d walked out of a movie scene with chaos exploding behind him and still somehow had time to fix his hair. If a man could be sculpted by spite and arrogance, it would be him.
And he was making himself very much at home.
"Yo, who the hell is that...?" Liora muttered under her breath, eyes narrowing.
The others were gathered awkwardly around the room, none daring to sit too close to him. They glanced at each other but said nothing, all wearing the same wary expressions.
Even the usually loud-mouthed Zhao Ren was suspiciously silent, choosing to fiddle with his boots in the corner instead of throwing sarcastic jabs.
But it was Eli’s reaction that caught Liora’s full attention.
He had just stepped out of the small room behind her and the moment his eyes landed on the white-haired man, he froze.
Then his eyes widened with pure excitement.
He slapped a hand over his mouth before a exclamation sound could escape. he trie to hold himself so no one could notice his small movements.
But Liora didn’t miss a thing.
She tilted her head slowly, glancing at Eli with a new curiosity. Panic, Guilt, Excitement and Recognition. All of them shining through his eyes at once.
So... they knew each other.
Interesting.
Her gaze slid back to the stranger, who had just finished his drink. When he noticed her standing in front of him, he gave her a slow once-over, then flashed a cocky grin that didn’t reach his eyes.
With a lazy flick of his wrist, he tossed the empty can behind him uncaring where it landed and raised a hand in mock greeting.
"Yo."
He popped the word like a bubble, casual and stupidly smug.
Liora’s brows furrowed further. but her eyes fell on his cold blue eyes that made her somewhat lose for seconds before she regained her composure again.
She didn’t speak. She didn’t need to. The weight of her stare was enough to drain the amusement from any men.
But not him.
He stretched, his lean body languid and slow like a predator that had eaten well. "You’re the princess, right? Liora, yeah? Gotta say, the rumors didn’t do you justice."
His grin widened.
"Damn. You’re a lot cuter in person."
The room went completely still.
Eli coughed behind her—probably choking on air. Someone shifted in the back like they were deciding whether to bolt or not.
Liora didn’t blink. Her tone was cold, even.
"And you are?"
"Aw, come on. That’s how you greet your savior?"
Liora’s heart skipped a beat.
The man winked, utterly unbothered.
"No need to thank me all at once. I’ll accept gifts. Preferably expensive ones."
At that, Liora finally took a step closer, staring directly into his annoyingly beautiful face. She could see the arrogance in his eyes, the kind that came from someone who feared nothing.
But behind the swagger—something sharp. Dangerous. Something not human.
"Who are you."
He leaned forward like he was about to whisper a secret, lips curving into that same maddening smirk.
"Let’s just say..." he said slowly, "I’m the guy who shows up when your knight fails to protect you."
Liora felt Eli flinch behind her.
So this was the one who saved them.
But that only raised more questions.
And from the way he looked at Eli—and the way Eli refused to look back—there was a story here.
She didn’t know why, but she had the sudden urge to smack that handsome face of his. It wasn’t just because she had met him for the first time. No. It felt deeper than that like she held a long standing grudge against this man from somewhere she couldn’t quite remember.
Liora’s expression turned strange.
She didn’t trust him. Not even a little. But one thing was clear: This man was dangerous. Ridiculously strong and possibly the biggest asshole she had ever met.
